Who Will Stand Trial For These Plots?
I have been waiting for several days for someone with a sense of fairness and reason to write something about this issue, but my wait has proven to be futile. The circles that have been beating around the bush to push the Ergenekon investigation into obscurity are totally mute.
Let me summarize: After a former National Security Council (MGK) secretary-general was detained, he was interrogated about an e-mail found on the computer of Tuncay Özkan, another Ergenekon suspect. The message gave me a creeping sensation as I read it. I could not help but think what daunting plots had been made in the past in this country. "We must find new witnesses in the trial of Fethullah," the author of the e-mail says, apparently referring to Fethullah Gülen. One is inclined to think that the sender is about to burst with anger, as he does not pay the tiniest respect to manners or law. Let's go on with the message in order to understand why. "Dear Mesut, we need to find new witnesses who will testify against Fethullah. Our lawyer Hüseyin said that the trial is proceeding contrary to our interests and that damned Eyüp and Serhat may change sides at any time. This Serhat guy had a relative, a kid named Cihat. I plan to give him some money to testify against Fethullah."
Do you see the heinous plot? He is seeking to find a man to testify against Gülen in return for money. You will remember the boys he refers to as "damned." These young boys named Serhat and Eyüp had been forced by an association affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Support for Modern Life Association (ÇYDD), to make false accusations about Gülen, and the illusion-manufacturing program called Ceviz Kabuğu had broadcast false statements about them. Later these boys refrained from adding fuel to this defamation campaign as a result of the call of conscience, and so they came to be referred to as "damned." Then the circles behind this first plan attempted to give money to other boys and their families.
Yes, but how can this be connected to the commanders and the former secretary-general of the MGK? Just read on: "To this end, our retired Col. Cem will talk to the boys and give the impression that this proposal is being made by the military. We must urgently find new witnesses. I talked to Fevzi Türkeri Pasha and Kemal Yavuz Pasha. We will talk about this matter once again with MGK Secretary-General Tuncer Kilinç. If you have something to say, just send me an e-mail or let us meet at the house of No. 1 BİKE. Do not talk openly on the phone. ... I am looking forward to hearing from you. With love, Gülseven Yaşer"
Col. Cem, Gendarmerie General Commander Gen. Fevzi Türkeri, Gen. Kemal Yavuz and MGK Secretary-General Gen. Tuncer Kilinç ─ why are these pashas involved in a campaign to defame and libel Gülen? What does it mean to forget about the weight of that glorious uniform and plot against a Turkish citizen and arrange false witnesses? Where are fairness, justice and innocence?
Kilinç was interrogated about this e-mail. The pasha said: "I knew the person named Gülseven Yaşer. I understand the content of this e-mail. ... I didn't see or hear [anything]." If there were fair media organizations, they would have asked this: "Dear pashas, why have you been part of this conspiracy?" Yavuz was one of the first who attended Ali Kirca's program to start the media's lynch campaign. Today he is opting to keep silent. His supporters are trying to obscure the evidence by making loud accusations, saying, "Revenge is being taking for Feb. 28 [1997 'postmodern coup']." There is no revenge. What we have at hand is a shadowy network that conducts bloody attacks to create chaos and pit people against one another. This network is so ruthless that its lawyers defend even its buried arsenals. They claim that they speak on behalf of the bar association, but undermine the law itself.
Now I wonder who those who sought to "find false witnesses in that trial" are paying to make propaganda about "pro-Fethullah police officers." Maybe the records of Ergenekon will reveal this, as well. The members of the Judges and Prosecutors Association (YARSAV) who for months exerted pressure on the judiciary and the media in the Gülen case and the closure case against the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), which were concluded with guilty verdicts, are now making propositions to other people ─ all the time wearing their judicial uniforms. They are struggling in vain. Every despotic plot will be uncovered one day. How I wish everyone could believe by heart in the rule of law and could clearly say that the state cannot set traps for anyone. But, to be able say this, one must first free oneself from such terrible ideological labyrinths.
