Nur ve karanlıklar

Rivalry

'Affection is like Prophet Solomon,' "Muhabbet bir Süleyman'dır,
'The heart is flying like Solomon's throne.' Gönül, taht-ı revan olmuş."
Muhammad was created because of affection and love; what was not created without His love and affection?
God created all out of affection, and showed this love by sending down the great Messengers to guide people to the truth.
In fact, God Almighty created and revealed His Divine Acts in order to show this love.
Existence has come to be because of love and it continues with love.
God Almighty treats all creatures, from the greatest to the smallest with the same Divine Beneficence, Compassion, Mercy and Generosity.
Therefore adorn your character with the character traits of God traits, with the character traits of the noble Prophet. Şu halde, "Allah ahlakı ile ahlaklanın", Peygamber ahlakı ile ahlaklanın.
God praises and glorifies the character of the Prophet: 'You are surely of a sublime character, and do act by a sublime pattern of conduct' (Al-Qalam 68:4).
You are the best of character, and you were created in this manner. Sen, ahlakın en güzeli üzerinesin; öyle yaratılmışsın.
When our mother Aisha was asked about the character of the Noble Prophet, she said: 'His character was that of the Qur'an'. Âişe validemize, huluk-i nebevî sorulduğu zaman, "Ahlakı, Kur'an'dı O'nun (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem)" buyuruyor.
When you read the Qur'an, you will be able to comprehend the supreme character of the noble Messenger of God. Kur'an'a baktığınız zaman, işte orada Hazreti Muhammed Mustafa'nın (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) ahlak-ı âliye-i gâliye-i fâikasını görmeniz mümkün olacaktır, diyor.
God displays His Beneficence and Compassion universally.
One could even say creation is an exhibition of God's Beneficence and Love; you can witness Divine Beneficence and Compassion everywhere.
But to see this exhibition you need have discernment, to truly 'see' and acknowledge the love and compassion and interpret it with all the faculties of the brain. Ama onu görmek için "basiret" (gönül gözü) ister, "basar" yetmez; "bakmak" yetmez, "görmek" ister; görmeyi takdir etmek, değerlendirmek ister; görme ile beraber beynin bütün nöronlarını çalıştırmak ister.
Yes, to be crazy for affection, and being a lover of love, just focusing on this. Evet, böyle bir muhabbet dertlisi, muhabbet âşığı olmak; sevginin aşığı, aşkın âşığı olmak; aşkın âşığı olmak, ona kilitlenmek.
May God adorn our hearts with that love and ardent longing. Cenâb-ı Hak, gönüllerimizi o sevgi ile, o aşk u iştiyak ile mamur eylesin.
Because a heart, a human and a society that lacks such love and affection is in ruins. Zira öyle bir muhabbetten mahrum gönül/insan/toplum harâbedir.
Poet Mehmet Akif is asked, 'What did you see in your many travels through the East?' "'Ne gördün, Şark'ı çok gezdin?' diyorlar.
What I saw: Gördüğüm:
In certain places, Yer yer
Cities in ruin, leaderless communities and homes; Harâb iller, serilmiş hânümanlar, başsız ümmetler
Abandoned houses, empty villages, collapsed roofs; Ipıssız âşiyanlar, kimsesiz köyler, çökük damlar;
Days deprived of toil, evenings wasted without any future plans; Emek mahrumu günler, fikr-i ferdâ bilmez akşamlar;
As I passed, I cried; as I stood, I cried; Geçerken ağladım geçtim, dururken ağladım durdum;
Nobody heard nor replied; I saw thousands of wretched places.' Duyan yok, ses veren yok, bin perişan yurda başvurdum."
Said the great Mehmet Akif, the man of grief, who gave voice to this absence. diyor yokluğu seslendiren hicran insanı, büyük şâir Mehmet Akif.
Just as human nature contains negative aspect or genes, it also includes a sense of competition or rivalry.
Worldly people use this sense of competition for worldly things. Ehl-i dünya, bu rekâbet duygusunu dünyevî şeyler hesabına kullanıyor.
For instance they say: 'Let me be rich so that all the power is in my hands. Mesela "Ben, zengin olayım, bütün imkânları ben elimde toplayayım.
Let everyone look up to me, and expect everything from me just like in a caste system. Kast sistemine göre, bütün halk benim gözümün içine baksın, her şeyi benden beklesin.
Let them think that if they destroy me or consider me perished, they will perish too. Beni yok ettikleri zaman veya beni yok farz ettikleri zaman, kendilerinin de yok olacağını düşünsünler."
Those who climb to the upper levels of such a caste system by considering worldly rivalry as such have always looked down upon the people below them in such a manner.
Such a person wants everybody to pay attention to them. Böyle biri ister ki, herkes onun gözlerinin içine baksın.
He wants people to applaud him whenever he walks on a street, so that he reaches his destination amidst a flood of applause.
Even to the extent that when they meet God on Judgement Day, God forbid, they consider themselves to be His shadow and expect people to bow and prostrate to them. Hatta Allah'a doğru giderken bile, orada -hâşa ve kellâ- kendini O'nun gölgesi zannederek, geçtiği her yerde kendisine eğilmeler beklemek, rükûlar beklemek, secdeler beklemek.
Considering what they desire, I believe that even if people were to prostrate to them, they will find an appropriate justification and say: 'This is not servitude, servitude is only to God. This is merely an expression of their utter respect.' Zannediyorum, arzu ettikleri şeylerin geneline bakınca anlaşılıyor ki, kendilerine secde edildiği zaman bile, ona dahi makul bir mahmîl bulacaklar; diyecekler ki, "Efendim, bu, saygıyı tamamıyla ifade etmenin icabıydı, yoksa kulluk değildi bu; kulluk, Allah'a yapılır!"
This is what they will say as they will endeavor to find a way to justify their actions.
Applause. Alkış.
'Only I should be applauded' "Sadece ben alkışlanayım."
The rivalry of worldly people Ehl-i dünyanın rekâbeti.
First, this must be observed, to understand that it exists within the human spirit.
Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, says: Nasıl Efendimiz (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem):
'Prophet Adam made an error in judgement, as his children did!', almost as if pointing to his genes: "Hazreti Âdem, hata etti; evlatları da etti!" diyor, adeta genetiği işaret buyuruyor:
'Adam forgot and his children forgot' "Hazreti Âdem, nisyana maruz kaldı, unuttu; evlatları da unuttu."
These are things that shouldn't be, but are often are forgotten: Ee unutulmaması gerekli olan ama unutulan şeyler var:
May God protect us from it, first of all forgetting God, religion and the afterlife. Hafizanallah, en başta Allah'ın unutulması; dinin unutulması; uhrevî âlemlerin unutulması.
There are also the following: Ee onun berisinde bir sürü şeyin unutulması var:
Forgetting servanthood to God, affection toward humankind, divine beneficence and clemency, thinking about others at least as much as you think about yourself.
So much forgetfulness; and forgetfulness is a calamity that casts a shadow onto one's afterlife.
This is part of human nature. İnsanın tabiatında var bu.
Worldly people use this for the world, to get applauded, 'Only I shall be applauded' they say; they use it for status, ranks and power, 'Only I shall be powerful and strong.' Ehl-i dünya, onu dünya hesabına kullanıyor; alkışa kullanıyor, "Ben alkışlanayım sadece!" diyor; takdire kullanıyor; makama kullanıyor; mansıba kullanıyor; güce kullanıyor; "Güç, bende olsun; kuvvet, bende olsun!
'Let might determine what is right' they say. Hak da kuvvetin emrinde olsun!" diyor
Bediüzzaman also touches upon this: Hazret, buna da temas ediyor, diyor ki:
The Prophetic principal states, 'Right makes might, might does not make right,' this prevents tyranny and restores justice. "Düstur-u nübüvvet, 'Kuvvet haktadır, hak kuvvette değildir.' der, zulmü keser, adaleti temin eder."
In one place he says, 'And the proof of this is.'
Yes, the people of truth and verifying scholars must believe that right makes might; place might into the order of right and use it in the direction of establishing the truth. Evet, ehl-i hak ve ehl-i hakikat, bütün kuvveti hakta bilecek; ondan sonra da o kuvveti hakkın emrine verecek, hakkı ikâme etme istikametinde kullanacak.
As a side note: Antrparantez:
This is your path. Mesleğiniz bu sizin.
To use all your material and spiritual resources, thinking processes, all of your physical strength, even your dreams, aspirations towards this grand purpose in life. Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın size verdiği maddî-manevî bütün imkânları, düşünce aktivitelerinizi, bedenî bütün gücünüzü, hatta rüyalarınızı, hülyalarınızı bu gaye-i hayal istikametinde kullanmak.
Fundamentally, to establish the truth, to hold and raise the truth. Esasen, hakkı ikâme etmek, hakkı tutup kaldırmak.
Somewhere, Mehmet Akif says, 'The Creator has infinite Names; starting with The Ultimate Truth and Ever-Constant.'
In fact, among the Names of God, the Name of His Essence, 'Allah' is greater than all of them; however at the same time, it is also understood that 'Al-Haq' (The Ultimate Truth and Ever-Constant) is also known as 'Allah'; it possibly encompasses all of the Divine Names. Vâkıa, Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın isimleri arasında, ism-i Zât hepsinden büyüktür; fakat aynı zamanda "Hakk" dendiği zaman da "Allah" anlaşılır; belki bütün esmâ-i İlahiye anlaşılır.
Because, The Ultimate Truth and Ever-Constant is unlike all other Divine Names. Çünkü Hakk isminde izâfîlik olmayacaktır.
You may see similarities God's other Names. Başkalarında izâfîlik görebilirsiniz.
For example, one can observe a similarity between the Attributes of 'Mercy' and 'Compassion'. Mesela, Rahmâniyet'te izâfîlik görebilirsiniz; Rahîmiyet'te izâfîlik görebilirsiniz.
However when we consider the Name 'The Ultimate and Ever-Constant', the Divine Essence of Al-Haq is the truth. Ama Hakk meselesine gelince, Zât-ı Hakk, haktır, gerçek haktır.
As for the statement, 'The reality and existence of objects is definite', Bediüzzaman states that objects are the shadow of the shadow of the shadow of the shadow of His existence. "Eşyanın hakikati sabittir" dediğiniz şeyler, esasen Hazreti Pîr'in ifadesiyle, O'nun varlığının gölgesinin gölgesinin gölgesinin gölgesidir.
So when we say, 'The Ultimate Truth and Ever-Constant', we mean Him as the saying goes 'Unspecific mentioning refers to the prime example'. Demek ki "Hakk" dendiği zaman, "Mutlak zikir, kemâline masruftur" fehvasında O anlaşılır.
With this in mind, I am trying to find the appropriate basis to understand the words of Akif. Evet, bu tavzihle, Akif'in sözüne makul mahmîl bulmaya çalışıyorum.
He says: Diyor ki:
'The Creator has infinite Names; starting with The Ultimate Truth and Ever-Constant, "Hâlık'ın nâmütenâhî adı var; en başı Hakk,
For a servant it is such a glorious thing to hold and raise justice and the truth Ne büyük şey, kul için, hakkı tutup kaldırmak;
When the Respected Companions would depart from each other Hani Ashâb-ı kirâm, "Ayrılalım!" derlerken,
They would read the Chapter named 'Al-Asr' (Time Heavy with Events) from the Qur'an, why? Mutlaka sûre-i "Ve'l-asr"ı okurmuş, neden?
Because there is the secret of salvation in this great Chapter, Çünkü meknûn o büyük sûrede esrâr-ı felâh,
First comes true faith and then righteousness, Başta "iman-ı hakiki" geliyor, sonra "salah",
Then truth, followed by patience, which is humanity; Sonra "hak", sonra "sebât" (sabır); işte kuzum, insanlık;
When these four unite within, there will be no downfall for you.'
'Faith', 'good deeds', 'truth' and 'patience' (in what you know is right). "İman", "amel-i sâlih", "hak" ve (doğru bildiğin şeyde) "sebât".
Patience against calamities; patience against the attacks of worldly people, against afflictions and disasters; patience in our worship and servitude. Mesâibe karşı sebât; ehl-i dünyanın saldırılarına, belâ ve musibetlere karşı sebat; ibadet u tâatte sebat.
You can count more; patience as a show of respect for the Divine Will, in the matter of having a great longing for the afterlife; patience against anything that may happen to you in the world. Çoğaltabilirsiniz; öbür âlemi şiddetle arzu etme mevzuunda, murad-ı İlahî'ye saygının gereği olarak sebat; dünyada başınıza gelecek her şeye karşı sebat.
Patience and perseverance... Sebat, sebat.
It's a very important attribute, a productive quality. Çok önemli bir vasıf, kazandıran bir sıfat.
Truth and perseverance... Hak ve sebat.
Striving for truth and justice is the most important purpose of human beings.
A human ought to tie their own existence to it. İnsanın, kendi varlığını ona bağlaması lazım.
To hold and uplift truth and justice, which has been globally destroyed; to hold them up in the name of The Ultimate Truth and Ever-Constant. Yeryüzünde yıkılmış hakkı, harâb olmuş hakkı tutup kaldırmak; Hakk adına, onu tutup kaldırmak.
This is the greatest cause. Bu, en büyük bir mesele.
If a person dedicates themselves to this cause, this is the most sacred dedication.
If they dedicate themselves to this cause without expectations, with God's will and grace, they will be freed from any worldly expectations.
With God's will, they will no longer expect applause or admiration, nor expect justice and power to obey their commands, nor will they expect others to bow in prostration and display false gratitude.
Unfortunately, however, goals are set entirely for the world. Fakat maalesef, bütünüyle, tamamen dünya hedefleniyor.
In this goal setting one can become so engulfed in the matter that the afterlife is completely forgotten; it remains only on the tongue and lips. It does not travel further than the esophagus. Bu hedeflenmede bazen işin içine öyle derinlemesine giriliyor ki, öbür taraf, bütün bütün unutuluyor; o, sadece dilde-dudakta kalıyor, zannediyorum yutaktan içeriye girmiyor.
That is why the late Nureddin Topçu would call some people 'Masters of the Throat'. These were the people who recited the Qur'an or sung holy hymns without feeling it in their hearts. Onun için merhum Nureddin Topçu, bu türlü insanlara "gırtlak ağaları" derdi; gönlünde duymadan Kur'an okuyanlarına, ilahi okuyanlarına, bilmem nelerine "gırtlak ağaları" derdi.
I too have listened to these at some point: Yerinde Kıtmîr de dinlemiştir bunu:
'Whenever I recall You, "Ne zaman anarsam seni
I no longer have a choice to make. Kararım kalmaz Allah'ım
No one other than You, O God, Senden gayrı gözüm yaşım
Will wipe my tears away' (Yunus Emre). Kimseler silmez Allah'ım" (Yunus Emre)
They say, 'Whenever I remember You, the tears flow from my eyes!'; however this is completely irrelevant to the person. The man is far away from this concept yet he sings these words. "Her kaçan Seni anarsam, çağlar gözlerimin yaşı!" falan diyor; fakat hiç alakası yok, adam fersah fersah uzak ondan ama söylüyor bunu.
When these things are said, they say it in such a manner that it makes you want to leave. Dediği zaman, kalkıp gideceğin bir şey söylüyor.
Abandon that gathering. Terk et o meclisi.
For when they say, 'The Ultimate Truth and Ever-Constant!' when they say, 'God!' they display a frightening self-conceit.
As worldly people desire this ostentation, they may get much invested in this and go so far as forgetting their afterlife. Şimdi, ehl-i dünya bunu hedeflediğinden dolayı, âhireti unutacak kadar bu mevzuda derinleşebiliyor.
Even uttering 'God' becomes an action only for the lips and tongue, may God protect us from it. Neûzu billah, "Allah" deme bile, dil ve dudaktan ibaret kalıyor.
However, faith is fundamentally composed of affirmations of the heart. Oysaki iman, -esasen- kalbin tasdikinden ibarettir.
Increasing faith is an action that belongs to the heart; the deepening and usefulness is linked to serious action.
That is why, wherever 'faith' is mentioned, it is immediately followed by 'good deeds'; faith is reinforced with deeds of righteousness. Onun için, nerede "iman" denmiş ise, hemen arkadan "amel-i sâlih" de denmiştir; imanın amel-i sâlih ile takviyesine işaret edilmiştir.
Wherever 'faith' is mentioned, it is followed by 'spiritual knowledge', 'affection', 'spiritual pleasure' and 'love and longing for God'. İmandan, iman-ı billah'tan hemen sonra "marifet" denmiştir, "muhabbet" denmiştir, "zevk-i ruhanî" denmiştir, "aşk u iştiyâk-ı likâullah" denmiştir.
If it is reinforced with these, that faith is certain; otherwise, they are merely words on the tongue and lips, which are poured out as falsehoods.
As a matter of fact, one can say many things with their tongue and lips. Nitekim dil ve dudakla bazı şeyler diyebilirler.
For example, they can say, 'Political Islam!' or 'We will get him!' Mesela, "Siyasî İslam!" diyebilirler; "Onu getireceğiz!" diyebilirler.
They could even exploit the memory of their forefathers' and establish 'Ottoman Hearths'. Hatta cetlerin ocaklarını o istikamette istismar edip kullanabilirler, "Osmanlı Ocakları" diyebilirler.
The original hearths were created with a belief and aim; not to keep tabs on people, not to work for intelligence services and to hurt those who do not think like them.
They are established with no other aim but to hurt and destroy. Yapılan şeyler, şimdi onlar; onun için bunlar "teessüs" ediyor; bir kısım tesisatı yıkmaya matuf teessüsât bunlar.
Let us move on. Geçiyoruz.
When it comes to rivalry regarding the Hereafter, that is more menacing, may God protect us from it. Mesâil-i uhreviyede rekâbete gelince, o daha tehlikeli, hafizanallah.
And this occurs among religious and pious people.
Among the people who spend their lives in Sufi lodges and retreat centers, the difference of character, school and thoughts can lead people to do evil.
They also say, 'God!', they also call people to God Almighty, they stand with utmost respect towards him, they also say, 'While in the upright position during the Prayer, stand modestly!' they also say, 'Place your face unto the floor!' O da "Allah!" diyor, insanları Cenâb-ı Hakk'a çağırıyor, "O'nun karşısında her zaman el-pençe divan durun!" diyor, "Kıyamı da yeterli bulmayın, iki büklüm olun!" diyor, onu da yetersiz görerek "Yüzünüzü yerlere sürün!" diyor.
In prostration, 'Dear God, only to You do I prostrate, I believed in You and surrendered to Your will. Secdede, "Allah'ım, Sana secde ettim, Sana inandım, Sana teslim oldum.
My face will prostrate to the one that has created it, shaped it and gave it ears and eyes. Yüzüm, kendisini yaratan, şekil veren, kulağını ve gözünü yarıp çıkaran Yaratan'a secde etti.
The most Beautiful, the sole Creator! How exalted You are!
My ear, eyes, blood, flesh, bones, nerves and everything else my feet carries, has surrendered to the Creator of the worlds, has submitted to Him' in an attempt to attain the blessing of the best of stature, to testify to God's blessings; 'Everything is from You; the One that made me in human form is You' in prostration, when one is closest to God Almighty. Kulağım, gözüm, kanım, etim, kemiğim, sinirim ve ayaklarımın taşıdığı her şey, Âlemlerin Rabbi olan Allah'a boyun eğmiş, itaat etmiştir" derken de ahsen-i takvîme mazhariyeti yâd etmek suretiyle, Cenâb-ı Hakk'a karşı zımnî bir tahdîs-i nimette bulunma; "Sen'den, her şey Sen'den; beni böyle insan şeklinde yaratan, Sen'sin!" deme, secdede, Cenâb-ı Hakk'a en yakın olduğu yerde.
According to Prophetic tradition, 'In prostration, a servant is in the nearest state they can be toward their Lord, thus, it should be spent in humble devotion, supplication and prayers towards God!' "İnsanın, Allah'a en yakın olduğu ân, secde ânıdır; öyle ise o en yakınlığı Cenâb-ı Hakk'a tazarru, dua, sual ve talep ile değerlendirmeye bakın!" deniyor, hadis-i şerifte.
'Say such things in that prostration, that it takes you one step closer to God Almighty'. "Öyle şeyler söyleyin ki orada, onlar sizi bir adım daha Cenâb-ı Hakk'a yaklaştırsın" deniyor.
This is the general consensus on this issue, however, due to minor differences in thought and school people get into disputes.
'I'll speak, and others should listen! "Ben diyeyim de âlem beni dinlesin!
If people are to enter Paradise, may they enter after me! İnsanlar Cennet'e gireceklerse şayet, benim arkamdan girsinler!
If they are to know of God and the Prophet Muhammad may they know them through me.
May their gaze be upon me, may the truths be exposed through me!' etc, such remarks may seem favourable, but without realising it they will fall to the same calamity as that of the worldly people.
We should actually become limbs of the one body. Oysa esas, bir vücudun azaları gibi olmaktır.
When one speaks of Muslims, they are defined as the various parts of a building, the limbs and parts of a body.
Feet, legs, eyes, ears, lips and the tongue; these are all parts that make up a complete being. El-ayak, göz-kulak, dil-dudak; bunlar bir vücudu meydana getiren parçalardır, bir araya geldiği zaman "tamamiyet" olur.
Hence, in this regard, we must act with such a spirit of altruism that 'after finding the truth, we must not be at variance and conflict with each other for a greater truth'.
Perhaps this may not come naturally each time. Hani bazen insanın içinden gelmeyebilir bu.
You almost always find the right way. Siz, yolunuzu "en doğru" buluyorsunuz.
Bediüzzaman elucidates to this too, and states: 'What is good and true sometimes turns out to be better and truer than what, in the abstract, appears to be better and truer.'
If we can settle on that which is beautiful, then we must not fall in pursuit of the most beautiful. Hasende anlaşmak mümkünse şayet, ahsende münakaşaya düşmemek lazımdır.
Hence if you can come to a sound agreement on a particular issue, then the 'better agreement' should not get between you. Yani, şayet bir meselenin güzelinde mutabakat sağlayabiliyorsanız, "daha güzel"i, sizi birbirinize düşürmesin.
Therefore, if a thing of good brings people together then that is more pleasant than the most good.
So that is why sometimes, 'What is good and true sometimes turns out to be better and truer than what, in the abstract, appears to be better and truer'. Onun için "Bazen hasen, ahsenden daha ahsendir!"
Bediüzzaman emphasised on this point too. Hazret buna da vurguda bulunuyor.
For him, concord and alliance is paramount and at the same time it can be said that it is the channel through which divine help is received.
If God is reaching a hand out to you, and is lifting you from where you fell and ensuring you reach your destination in haste then I believe it is because of your concord and alliance. Cenâb-ı Hak, size inayet elini uzatacaksa, düştüğünüz yerden sizi kaldıracaksa, gideceğiniz hedefe sizi çok hızlı, fevkalâdeden ulaştıracaksa, bunu zannediyorum vifâk ve ittifak faktörüne bağlamıştır.
In the plan of ordinary conditions, if God has said, 'I have decreed a thing is so' then no strength can change that.
To think, 'People should listen to me and follow my path, if they enter into Paradise they shall do so in my path, and if they enter into Hellfire it shall be on my path, as long as they are on my path!' are whispers in one's right ear from Satan. Şimdi mesele, bu ölçüde ehemmiyet ifade ettiği halde, "İlle de insanlar, beni dinlesin ve benim yolumda yürüsünler; Cennet'e gireceklerse, benim yolumda girsinler; Cehennem'den uzak kalacaklarsa, benim yolumda kalsınlar!" gibi mülahazalar, şeytanın sağdan gelmesidir.
This is because Satan approaches from the right with tricks with a semblance of truth. Çünkü şeytan, sağdan gelince, böyle sûret-i haktan görünür.
When Satan approaches from the left, he will convince human beings to be hopelessly dragged down by sins, food, drink, sleep, and carnal desires. Şeytan, soldan geldiği zaman, insanda me'âsîyi; bohemlik duygusunu, yeme-içme, yan gelip yatma ve şehevî duygulara takılıp onların arkasından sürüm sürüm sürüklenmeyi tetikler.
When he approaches from the front, he will whisper devilishly, aiming to show the future as dark by closing one's eyes to the future.
Like those people who say that they believe in God, but whenever you remind them of the Hereafter, Prophethood, God's vision and God's good pleasure, they say: 'You are worrying about things that are so far away! Hani günümüzde ehl-i dünya ama "Allah'a da inandım!" diyen bazıları, "Ahiret, Allah, Peygamber, Rü'yet, Rıdvan!" falan dediğiniz zaman, "Yahu siz çok uzak şeylere gönlünüzü kaptırmışsınız!
Now is the time to enjoy the world!' Şimdi dünyada yaşama var!" falan diyorlar.
Yes that is how he will lead you astray when he approaches from the front; he will blind you to the future and you won't be able to assess and evaluate it. Önden gelince de böyle yapar; geleceğe matuf -bir yönüyle- sizi bakarken kör haline getirir, istikbali değerlendiremezsiniz.
In other words, you will look at something, but won't be able to see it with insight.
And when he approaches from behind, he will detach you from the past. Arkadan gelince de, sizi geçmişten koparır.
Essentially, your past extends all the way to the Prophets; Prophet Adam, Prophet Moses, Prophet Jesus and the noble Spirit of the Master of Humankind. Esasen sizin peygamberlere dayanan, Hazreti Âdem'e, Hazreti Nuh'a, Hazreti Musa'ya, Hazreti İsâ'ya ve Hazreti Ruh-u Seyyidi'l-Enâm'a (aleyhi ve aleyhimüssalâtü vesselam) dayanan bir yanınız var.
Your path is the path of the Prophets; the path of their Companions who follow them and the path of their Disciples. Yolunuz, peygamber yolu, onların arkasından giden Sahabî yolu, Havarî yolu.
Therefore by approaching from behind, Satan will pull you away from them and their path, may God protect us! Dolayısıyla şeytan arkadan gelmek suretiyle onlardan ve onların yolundan koparır, hafizanallah.
When Tevfik Fikret says to Yahya Kemal: 'You are the past not the future', he responds: Tevfik Fikret, Yahya Kemal'e, "Sen bir mazisin, âtî değilsin!" deyince, o da der ki:
'I am neither a wreck nor extravagantly wasteful.' "Ne harâbîyim, ne harâbâtîyim,
'I am the future with roots in the past.' Ben, kökü mazide bir âtîyim."
If they detach you from the past you will slip while walking to the future. Geçmişten sizi kopardıkları zaman, geleceğe yürüme mevzuunda sürçmeler başlar.
One should not be detached from the past, from the past that extends all the way to the great Messengers.
Yes, Satan approaches from the back by detaching you from the past. Evet, şeytan, geçmişten koparmak suretiyle arkadan da böyle vurur.
And he will attack you with other tricks from various angles.
For this reason, the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, in his prayer says: Onun için Allah Rasûlü (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) duasında şöyle demektedir:
'My Lord, conceal our faults and assure us of our fears.' "Allah'ım, ayıplarımızı setret ve bizi korktuklarımızdan emin eyle.
'My Lord, protect us from all harm and danger approaching us from our front, our back, our right, our left, and from above; and we seek your protection from being pulled down from our feet and collapsing'. (Our Prophet makes this prayer in the singular but if you are in a crowd you may substitute the plural as I have done). Allah'ım, önümüzden, arkamızdan, sağımızdan, solumuzdan ve üstümüzden (gelecek tehlikelerden) bizi koru; ayaklarımızın altından derdest edilmekten de Senin azametine sığınırız." (Efendimiz müfret/tekil sigasıyla söylüyor; bir topluluk içinde iseniz cemi'/çoğul sigasıyla da zikredebilirsiniz.)
Yes, he says: 'My Lord, I seek refuge in You from being struck from the right, the left, the front, the back, from above and below in an unexpected or unknown way'. Evet, "Allah'ım, sağdan, soldan, önden, arkadan, üstten ve alttan bilinmedik şekilde çarpılmaktan Sana sığınırım" buyuruyor.
And in a sense, he is inviting us to make these dimensions like walls, glasshouses of protection for us.
May God protect us! Hafizanallah.
I will go back, if you'll excuse me. Geriye dönüyorum, müsaadenizle:
From the right, the danger comes disguised in the form of the truth. For example: 'You are taking people to Paradise; due to the superiority of your path, school and method, it should be you who presents this matter'. Sağdan, sûret-i haktan görünerek gelir; böyle iyi şeyleri göstererek, "Yahu insanları Cennet'e götürüyorsun; dolayısıyla, meşrebinin, mezâkının ve mizacının fâikiyetiyle meseleyi senin takdim etmen lazım.
If you say, 'My path leads to Paradise more quickly', such thoughts would cause serious competition and resentment among people. 'Benimki çok daha hızlı götürüyor oraya!' demen lazım" demek suretiyle -hafizanallah- farkına varmadan çok ciddî rekâbetlere sebebiyet verir.
It would trigger the feeling of rivalry among people. Rekâbet duygusunu tetikler.
And even though the mission of serving the truth and the right path is a universal and comprehensive duty, this rivalry will lead to exclusion, saying 'Let them perish', and trying to overthrow them. Bu defa -esasen- hakka/hakikate hizmet etme, hakkı/hakikati kaldırma ve ikâme etme meselesi genel vazife iken, "Varsın yok olsunlar onlar!" deme ve başkalarını yıkma peşinde koşturtur.
And I am mentioning this as a side note: Antrparantez arz ediyorum:
Look, those who are serving in the path of God, you and your friends. Bakın, Allah yolunda hizmet eden siz ve sizin arkadaşlarınız.
You and your friends have been striving to spread the name and essence of Muhammad all over the world.
And whomever Muhammad was in the path of, this means spreading the name and essence of those people as well. Bu Ruh-u Revân-ı Muhammedî'nin şehbal açması, aslında O kimin/kimlerin yolunda idiyse şayet, bütün onların şehbal açması demektir.
He says, seeing the unseen at the time: 'My name will reach wherever the sun rises and sets'. Bir yönüyle "gayb-bîn" gözüyle, "Benim adım, Güneş'in doğup-battığı her yere ulaşacaktır" diyor.
And when his name reaches those lands, the great names of the great Prophets and angels will also reach those lands. O'nun adı ulaşınca, Enbiyâ-ı ızâmın nâm-ı celili de ulaşacak; melâike-i kiramın nâm-ı celili de ulaşacak.
People will know Gabriel, Michael, Israfil, Azrael, the eight beings that bear God's Throne, those in close proximity to God, the Interrogating Angels, The Noble Recorders, the Recording Angels, the Angels in Rows, the Emissaries and the angels who tear out the souls of the wicked as well. Cebrail'i, Mikail'i, İsrafil'i, Azrail'i, Hamele-i Arş'ı, Mühimmîn'i, Mukarrabîn'i, Münker-Nekir'i, Kirâmen Kâtibîn'i, Muakkıbât'ı, Sâffât'ı, Mürselât'ı, Nâziât'ı o sayede tanıyacaklar.
Everyone will see them as well where his majestic name is raised like a flag.
Yes, you have spread his name all over the world and on behalf of this you have had to endure many things.
When you left, all your assets were in a bag; only a change of clothes and pajamas. 'Where will we find money when we arrive?' Giderken, bütün sermayeniz bir çantanın içinde idi; herhalde yedek çamaşırlarınız vardı veya pijamalarınız vardı onda "Gittiğimiz yerde, nereden para buluruz?
How can we open a school? Nereden okul açarız; nasıl okul açarız?
Will people help us? İnsanlar bize yardımcı olurlar mı?
The people in this country, from different cultures, are they suspicious of us? Gittiğimiz yerlerdeki insanlar, farklı kültürlerin insanları; acaba bize karşı kuşku duyarlar mı?" filan.
You never considered any of them, you just said, 'Let's go only for God's sake'. Bunların hiçbirini hesaba katmadan, "Allah rızası için gidelim; olsun!" dediniz.
'Why?' you may ask. Ee neden?
Because your way was the way of the Companions, the respected Disciples' way. Çünkü yolunuz, Sahabenin yolu, Havarî hazerâtının yoluydu.
Those who went to different places; for example, the Disciples went from Nazareth to Antioch. Bunlar, kalkıp nereden nereye gitmişler; mesela Havârîler, Nâsıra'dan Antakya'ya gidiyorlar.
Prophet Jesus' Disciples are mentioned in the Qur'an in the Chapter Ya-Sin. The Chapter mentions the sacrifice of the Habib al-Najjar. Malum, Yâsîn sûresinde anlatılanların da seyyidinâ Hazreti İsâ'nın elçileri olduğundan bahsediliyor; Habîb-i Neccâr'ın kurban olduğu meseleden Yâsîn Sûresi bahsediyor.
The Tafsir al-Hammam is a short translation and commentary, it is as thin as a finger, especially devoted itself to the Chapter Ya-Sin. "Tefsir-i Hammâm" diye kısa, bir parmak kalınlığında bir tefsir var; hususi olarak Yâsîn Sûresi'ni tefsire tahsis edilmiş bir kitaptır:
Tafsir al Hammam... Tefsir-i Hammâm.
Your companions also spread out around the world with this intention and endured every difficulty, to fly that flag.
And, they did not say a word against groups or movements also going.
Even I, your sinful friend said: Hatta sizin günahkâr arkadaşınız -Kıtmîr'iniz diyeyim ben- dedi ki:
'If you opened schools in 150 countries, or however many nations, let the other movements also do the same.' "Siz, şayet yüz elli ülkede okul açmış iseniz, bir yüz elli ülke daha yok zaten, üç yüz ülke yok dünyada, yüz elli ülkede de onlar açsınlar.
Or if you have opened 1300 schools worldwide, let them also go and do the same; that means 2600 institutions in different parts of the world.
You will be able to nurture the elite in those nations. O kadar yerde eliti siz yetiştirirsiniz.
You will allow for people from different backgrounds to come together and embrace each other.
You can strive to establish the utopias and humanism that others dreamed and wrote about, with the grace and permission of God.
You went and dealt with many troubles. Bunu yaptınız ve çok şeylere katlandınız.
And now you have been left facing different trials and tribulations because of this.
You have lost the right to exist in your homeland. Kendi ülkenizde size yaşama hakkı tanınmıyor.
'Why did you establish schools in different lands? "Siz, niye okul açtınız başka yerlerde?
Why are you devoted to this service? Neden bu Hizmet'e dilbeste oldunuz?
Who tricked you into taking part?' Kim sizi kandırdı bu mevzuda?" filan.
Whereas, there is no trick or guile. Oysaki kandırma mandırma yok.
This is the path of the Prophets, an open path, a highway. Peygamberler yolu, açık bir yol, şehrâh.
You found yourselves on a highway; it brought you to where you are, with God's permission and grace you did not veer off course.
Sadly, not a single one of the others spoke up in defense of you.
Do you see what rivalry and competition leads to? Bakın nasıl bir rekâbet?
I have never heard of it Ben duymadım.
Only one individual, an individual close to God, made a phone call or sent a message to me.
'When I criticised these negative developments, my followers abandoned me!' "Ben, bu olumsuz şeyler karşısında, az buçuk olumsuzluklarını ifade edince, etrafımdaki müritlerim bile dağıldı!" dedi.
If this is the truth, then may God protect that individual.
At least he defended us as an individual. En azından tek başına sahip çıktı.
It embarrasses me to say this here: Burada söylemekten hicâb duyuyorum:
Amongst those that we expected to speak out are scholars of theology and university professors that I knew 50 years ago.
Couldn't there have been even half a sentence uttered to be a voice and expression of fairness?
At the very least wouldn't this suffering have been shared with others? En azından, bu ızdırap paylaşılamaz mıydı?
Just as they did not do this, those who thought themselves to be on the path of God in their religious schools and lodges also did not raise their voice to the injustices.
But not a single voice. Ama hiçbir ses.
'Don't touch them, whatever befalls them is good. "Değme, iyi oluyor.
There is benefit in the destruction of them. Yıkılmalarında yarar var bunların.
When they are ruined, we will assume the reigns of power!'; this is what they thought. Onlar yıkılınca, meydan bize kalacak orada!" mülahazalarına kapıldılar.
They succumbed to their feelings of competition when it was a matter that pertained to religion. Böyle tamamen din ile alakalı bir meselede hiss-i rekâbete yenik düştüler.
Satan knocked them out in this regard; he gripped them by the scruff of their neck and knocked them out, may God protect us from it.
Despite everything, look at what I am saying: Her şeye rağmen, bakın ne diyorum:
May God Almighty bring forth the feelings of mercy and justice if they also wish so, if the Will of God is in that direction. May God cleanse the feelings of competition from within them.
May He make them the best of stature; may they share your anguish and suffering with you. Ahsen-i takvîme mazhar hale getirsin onları; sizin dertlerinizi/ızdıraplarınızı sizinle beraber paylaşsınlar.
A saying that is very often mentioned: Çok tekerrür eden bir söz:
'A person who does not share the suffering and concerns of Muslims is not one of them. "Müslümanların dertlerini onlarla paylaşmayan, onlardan değildir!"
The general meaning of this is that they are not Muslim. Açık manası bunun, yani Müslüman değildir.
Maybe it is better to interpret it in this way: Belki şöyle demek daha tedbirlice bir yorum olur:
'In the truest, most serious sense, they are not Muslim; they are Muslims of shape and figure, Muslims of imitation.' "Hakiki manada, ciddî manada Müslüman değildir; şeklî Müslümandır, sûretâ Müslümandır, taklidî Müslümandır."
They could not internalise being a Muslim; in other words, they were unable to put faith into conviction; they weren't able to attain deeper knowledge of God in their belief, they weren't able to increase the knowledge of God to love; they weren't able to crown their love of God to Divine love. İçtenleştirememiş Müslümanlığı; tabir-i diğerle, imanı, iz'an haline getirememiş; imanı, marifet ile derinleştirememiş; marifeti, muhabbet ile taçlandıramamış; muhabbeti, aşk-ı ilâhî ile taçlandıramamış.
  Hafizanallah.
May God Almighty bless us with these feelings that haven't been attained and allow them to appear!
May He save them from being the mute Satan. Dilsiz şeytan olmaktan kurtarsın onları.
Those who have not raised their voices in the face of injustice or in the face of the truths that have been subverted are known as 'mute devils'. Hak karşısında, yıkılan doğrular karşısında sesini yükseltmeyenlere "dilsiz şeytan" denmiş.
Those who have been quiet in the face of oppression have been called 'mute devils'. Zulme karşı sükût edenlere "dilsiz şeytan" denmiş.
There are a lot of people in silence. Sükût eden bir sürü insan var.
It doesn't suit human nature. İnsana yakışmıyor o.
What befalls us is to pray for true guidance; may God untie their tongues in the path of righteousness. Bize düşen şey hidayet talebidir; Cenâb-ı Hak, dillerini çözsün ama doğruluk istikametinde.
They should pray, 'They were our brothers and sisters; they endured many hardships, and they are continuing to endure different sufferings and agonies.'
Mothers and their children are being forced apart. Anne ile evlat birbirinden ayrı düşürülüyor.
A woman who has just given birth is thrown into prison. Doğum yapmış kadın zindana atılıyor.
Countless people have been killed. Ölen insanların hadd ü hesabı yok.
Countless people have been tortured. İşkence görenlerin hadd ü hesabı yok.
Women are tortured, children are tortured. Kadına işkence ediliyor, çocuğa işkence ediliyor.
As you can see; while fleeing, saying 'Let me save myself from the evils of bad people, the cruelty of tyrants, and the sins of the shameless!', they come across a tyrant in the form of the river Meritsa, and drown there.
Most of their bodies can't even be found. Çoğunun cenazesine ulaşılamıyor.
Most of their names disappear with their bodies. Çoğunun adları, kendileriyle beraber gömülüyor.
Their names are buried so that somewhere those with a conscience can observe a Funeral Prayer for them in absentia.
They can't observe. Kılamıyorlar.
There is no name. Adı yok.
What will you say? Ne diyeceksiniz?
You will say, 'Let us observe the Funeral Prayer in absentia for the unknown people, who have passed,' I am not sure if this is acceptable. "O meçhul ölmüşlere gıyâbî cenaze namazı." "Meçhul ölmüşlere" diyeceksiniz; o da olur mu olmaz mı, bilemeyeceğim ben onu.
Yes, in the face of all this oppression, I have never witnessed the sound of a just voice.
And so the people you expected to be on your side, serving the religion, whom you would normally expect mutual respect and cooperation from have been overtaken by jealousy and competitiveness so deeply that when you try your best to look at it from their distorted perspective you may also end up saying, 'Serves them right!' Dolayısıyla dinî cephede bulundukları halde, sağınızda bulundukları halde, kendilerinden -bir yönüyle- size saygı beklediğiniz insanlarda, hiss-i rekâbet, onları öyle bir duruma itmiş ki, âdetâ tavır ve davranışlarından dökülen şeyleri Picasso felsefesi ile resmetseniz, "Oh oldu!" çıkacaktır.
You could also end up saying, 'Serves them right! Resmetseniz, "Oh oldu!
They deserve it! Müstahak!
Serves them right for going to different countries. Ne işinize gelir sizin başka ülkelere gitmek?
They could be in comfort right here, where they could listen to us and applaud us as we walked by, they could support us, for what reason are they going to other countries?' Ülkenizde oturma, yiyip-içip yan gelip kulağı üzerine yatma varken, bizi dinleme varken, geçtiğimiz yerlerde bize alkış tutma varken, bizi destekleme varken, ne işiniz var ki sizin başka yerlere gidiyorsunuz?
They will say, 'Why do they go to raise that flag wherever they go, when you could have gone to let people know that we are a leading nation in the world. Veya gittiğiniz yerlerde bizi bayraklaştırma varken, bizim dünyanın lideri olduğumuzu anlatma varken, siz ne yapıyorsunuz?
You going there is pointless!' Gidişiniz fuzûlî!" filan çıkacaktır.
With such deliberations, may God protect us, some people are being tortured; while others are acting as mute Satan's, snickering from afar.
What else comes with this? Bunun yanında ne oluyor?
Satan is enjoying his most successful days, dancing in joy. Şeytan, en başarılı günlerini yaşıyor; zil takmış oynuyor.
Where is he dancing? Nerede oynuyor?
In mosques, in front of the pulpit. Camilerde oynuyor, minberin önünde oynuyor.
Because pulpits and lecterns have become the voice of politics. Çünkü minberler, siyasetin sesi-soluğu haline geldi; kürsüler, siyasetin sesi-soluğu haline geldi.
Would we have expected that the Majestic Name of God is silenced in mosques and replaced by the ugly, vile voice of politics? Umar mıydık, nâm-ı celîl-i İlâhî, mescitlerde sussun; siyasetin çirkin, çatlak sesi, minberde ve mihrapta yükselsin?
They have been totally consumed by this world as they allow for the voice of politics to rise higher in mosques than God's Name, the Prophet's name, and the struggles of the believers. Allah bahsedileceğine, Peygamber bahsedileceğine, mü'minlerin dertleri bahsedileceğine, onların (siyasetin, siyasîlerin ve aktüalitenin) bahsedilmesi gibi kendilerini tamamen dünyevîliğe saldılar.
  Hafizanallah.
The problem is severe. Dert, büyük.
In Fuzuli's words, Fuzûlî'nin sözüyle,
'Friends are unfaithful, fate is uncompassionate, and time is restless "Dost, bî-vefâ; felek, bî-rahim; devran, bî-sükûn
There are many troubles and no cures. The enemy is powerful, and good fortune is weak.' Dert, çok; derman, yok; düşman, kavî; talih, zebûn."
But let us not say as he says, as his is an expression of hopelessness and skepticism.
He may have said, 'There are many troubles, but no cures. The enemy is powerful, but good fortune is weak.' O, "Dert, çok; derman, yok; düşman, kavi; talih, zebûn!" diyor.
Instead it can be said that there are many troubles; but by God's will and grace cures are plenty.
Although the enemy is strong, hope is never lost. Düşman kavî olsa da talih zebûn değil.
Although the enemy is strong, hope is never lost, and by God's will and grace good fortune has not fallen.
You will spring and arise; and spread your wings beyond this issue in Turkey, to the rest of the world. Sıçrayıp doğrulacaksınız; bir Türkiye meselesini, dünya meselesi haline getireceksiniz.
By God's will and grace you will meet many fair, appreciative people all over the globe and they will write your tales.
One day, you will become the voice and life of all people, by God's grace and will. Gelecekte dünyanın sesi-soluğu olacaksınız, Allah'ın izni-inayetiyle.
'All-Glorified are You, O Lord! "Sübhânsın ya Rab!
What could we possibly know save what You have taught us? Senin bize bildirdiğinden başka ne bilebiliriz ki?
Surely You are the All- Knowing, the All-Wise' (Al-Baqarah 2:32). Her şeyi hakkıyla bilen, her şeyi hikmetle yapan Sensin" (Bakara, 2:32).
O our Gracious Lord!, support us with assistance from Your realm! Allah'ım, bizi katından bir ruhla/bir güçle te'yid buyur.
Make us engaged in deeds You love and are pleased with, make us love them, enable us to practice them in life and to let others learn them! Sevdiğin ve râzı olduğun işlere muttali kılıp onları bize sevdir; onları hayata taşımaya ve başkalarına duyurmaya bizleri muvaffak eyle.
O the One Who is All-Merciful. Ey yegâne merhamet Sahibi.
Help us against our enemies. Hasımlarımıza karşı bize yardımcı ol.
Allow us victory against the people who are hostile towards us. Bize düşmanlık yapanlara karşı bize nusret lütfet.
We leave to Your Will all those who engage in hostility and hatred towards us; do not let them achieve their evil ambitions; help us against them and allow us to have victory. Allah'ım, bize karşı adavet ve kinle bilenmiş kimselerin hepsini Sana havale ediyoruz; onları karanlık emellerine ulaştırma; onlara karşı bize yardım edip nusret ver.
We send invocations of peace and blessings to our noble Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, to his blessed family, and to the distinguished Companions, and we make this the podium on which we voice our request; O Lord, accept our prayers. Efendimiz Hazreti Muhammed'e, mübarek ailesine ve güzide ashâbına salât ü selam ederek bunu diliyoruz; kabul buyur Rabbimiz.
