Suffering, God’s Pleasure and Hope

Suffering causes people to misjudge their perception of events. Dert, hadiseleri, insanlara çok farklı okutturur.
The real issue is to perceive suffering as a remedy. Asıl mesele, derdi derman bilmektir.
A great person once said: Diyor ki büyük zat:
'Is there a better remedy than suffering itself or a better reason for forgiveness than suffering?'
Suffering becomes a means for forgiveness and purifies the soul from sins. Dert, sebeb-i gufrân oluyor; dertli insan arınıyor günahlardan, Türkçemizdeki ifadesi ile "pîr u pâk" oluyor.
When there is a chance of dying in a purified state, one should not worry about the suffering of today.
Since the cure and remedy to all suffering is God, the heart has found its cure already. Madem derd-i hicrana, onulmaz dertlere derman, O (celle celâluhu); gönül, dermanını bulmuş demektir.
There is no reason to be sad. Üzülmemeli, müteessir olmamalı.
When the heart feels distressed, it must turn towards God. İçine bir sıkıntı geldiği zaman, içini O'na dökmeli.
Just as that great person said in another poem: Yine o büyük zatın dediği gibi:
'Grant us kindness, O Lord! Never deprive Your pitiful servants Your benevolence "Kerem kıl kesme Sultan'ım keremin bî-nevâlardan
Would it be suit the Granter of Benevolence to withhold His kindness from these destitute servants?' Kerem-kâne yakışır mı kerem kesmek gedalardan?"
Evaluate yourself based on this position. Kendini o konumda mütalaa et.
When you are going to knock on His door, approach it with these thoughts!
Don't complain; make the most of your situation. Hâlinden şikâyet etme; kendi konumunun hakkını ver.
By God's will, you will not fall into thoughts of discontent. You will say: Siz, bu türlü -şikâyet barındıran- mülahazalara inşaallah girmezsiniz.
'If His Majesty sends troubles, "Gelse celâlinden cefâ
Or fidelity from Divine Beauty Yahut cemâlinden vefâ
Both are pleasures to my soul İkisi de câna safâ
Both Your troubles and blessings are beautiful' and embrace your situation with contentment.
I assume that this is the point where the secret of 'Satisfaction' and 'Contentment' are unveiled. Zannediyorum "Râdıye" "Mardıyye" sırrının -esas- tecelli ettiği nokta da burası oluyor.
To be elevated from having a carnal soul and the soul that blames to the state of the 'Soul at Rest'. Nefs-i Levvâme'den sıyrılma, nefs-i hayvânîden sıyrılma, Nefs-i Mutmainne'ye ulaşma.
This elevation happens through constant remembrance, reflection and contemplation of God.
The Qur'an states: Kur'an buyuruyor:
'Be aware that it is in the remembrance and of and whole-hearted devotion to God that hearts find rest and contentment' (Ar-Ra'd 13:28). "İyi bilin ki, gönüller ancak Allah'ı anmakla huzur bulur" (Ra'd, 13:28).
Our predecessors would say, 'Be cautious and aware.' Yes, be cautious and aware that hearts may be matured and elevated by the remembrance of God'. Eskiler "Âgâh u mütenebbih olunuz!" derlerdi; onların ifadesiyle, "Âgâh u mütenebbih olunuz ki kalbler Allah'ı anmak ile oturaklaşır, itmi'nâna ulaşır."
The Soul at Rest has two wings: İtmi'nâna ulaşmış bir kalbin iki kanadı vardır:
On one side, it is 'Satisfied', it is pleased with God. Bir kanadı itibarıyla, "Râdıye"dir; o, Allah'tan hoşnuttur.
Considering the point earlier, it is about greeting both the manifestations of Divine Majesty and Beauty with willingly.
And from the other side, it is 'Pleased', worthy of the good pleasure of God. Diğer kanadı itibarıyla da "Mardıyye"dir; Allah'ın rızasına mazhardır.
In different passages of the Qur'an, this is touched upon: Bunu, Kur'an-ı Kerim ifade buyururken değişik yerlerde:
'God is pleased with them and they are pleased with God'. "Allah onlardan razı olmuştur, onlar da O'ndan hoşnut" diyor.
First of all, it is about pleasing God. Evvelâ, Allah'ın râzı olması.
If He is pleased, your heart will be filled with the feeling of being pleased. O (celle celâluhu) râzı olunca, senin gönlüne de rıza hissi doluyor.
Also, God, with His All-Encompassing Knowledge, knows what you will do, and becomes pleased with you. Şu kadar var ki, Allah, ilm-i muhît-i Sübhânîsi ile senin ne yapacağını biliyor, senden râzı oluyor.
A friend of God, as mentioned in The Imploring Hearts says, 'Be pleased with me so that I can also be pleased.'
Being pleased with God, and greeting everything with compliance, is in a way, a breeze that comes from Him, like an soothing ointment.
At times, opposing winds may blow and it may seem like things have become dispersed. There may be some people who conceive the reasons for such storms as merciless and unkind.
But you must act according to your level of belief, however sound and strong your heart is. Fakat sen, Allah'a nasıl inanıyorsan, nasıl sağlam, mutmain bir kalbe sahip isen, öyle davranmalısın.
Since you are walking on the path of the great Messengers, you must act like them. Enbiyâ-i ızâmın yolunda yürüdüğüne göre, onlar gibi davranmalısın.
Albeit, among the great Messengers, there have been some who have responded sharply to a certain extent, Prophet Noah is an example.
Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him, alludes to this as he says: Allah Rasûlü de buna işaret buyuruyor:
'Prophet Moses and Prophet Noah'. "Hazreti Musa ile Hazreti Nuh" diyor.
According to the Qur'an, 'Noah also said: Kur'ân'ın ifadesiyle, "Nûh şöyle yakardı:
My Lord! Rabbim!
Do not leave on the earth any from among the unbelievers dwelling therein!' (Noah, 71:26). Yeryüzünde, kâfirlerden yurt tutacak/gezip dolaşacak hiç kimse bırakma!" (Nuh, 71:26).
'O my Lord! "Ey Rabbim!
Do not allow anyone from the following to find a dwelling place on earth; those who reject and do not recognise You, shut their eyes in the face of Your commands and block their ears in the face of commands based on your law!' Seni inkâr eden, Seni tanımayan, bütün tekvinî emirlere karşı gözünü kapayan, teşriî ayetleri anlamazlıktan gelen insanlara yeryüzünde bir yurt tutunma fırsatı verme!"
And after praying for his parents, Prophet Noah goes on to say, 'Oh Lord, increase destruction upon those tyrants.' Hazreti Nuh, kendine, anne-babasına rahmet okuduktan sonra da "Allah'ım, zâlimlerin helâk olmalarını artır!" diyor.
But at one point, he cannot endure: Fakat bir yerde, sesi-soluğu kesiliyor:
'So he prayed to his Lord, saying: "I have been overcome, so help me!"' (Al-Qamar, 54:10). "Bunun üzerine Rabbine, 'Ben yenik düştüm, bana yardım et!' diyerek yalvardı" (Kamer, 54:10) buyurulduğu üzere, "Rabbim, ben mağlup oldum, ne olur bana yardım et!" diye yakarıyor.
All worldly causes seized to function; all the doors he knocked on were shut on his face. Esbâb bil-külliye sukût ediyor; çaldığı kapılar, hep yüzüne kapanıyor.
As stated in the Qur'an, Prophet Noah lived for hundreds of years. Kur'an-ı Kerim'in ifadesi ile, Hazreti Nuh, uzun zaman yaşıyor, yüzlerce sene yaşıyor.
Living for 950 years is not something to be astonished by; it is something that is under God's control.
Indeed, the Qur'an states: Evet, Kur'an-ı Kerim diyor:
'Indeed, We sent Noah to his people (as Messenger), and he remained among them a thousand years save fifty years; and in the end, the Flood overtook them as they were wrongdoers (who persisted in associating partners with God and committing grave injustices)' (Al-Ankabut, 29:14). "Nuh'u bir rasûl olarak halkına gönderdik ve aralarında bin yıldan elli yıl eksik bir süre kaldı." "Nihayet onları tufan (su felâketi) yakalayıverdi" (Ankebût, 29:14).
He kept knocking on their doors for all those years. Onca zaman kapı kapı dolaşıyor, kapı tokmaklarına dokunuyor.
What did he say to them? Ne diyor?
'The One Who created and commands you, and formed a harmony between you and those commands wants you to believe in Him.' "Sizi yaratan, -bakın- şu tekvinî emirleri var eden, sizin ile onlar arasında genel âhenk tesis buyuran Allah (celle celâluhu), Kendisine iman etmenizi istiyor."
The Pride of Humanity once said: 'Say there is no deity but God and attain salvation.' İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu, belli bir dönemde, "Lâ ilahe illallah, deyin; kurtuluşa erin." "Böyle deyin ve felaha erin!" buyuruyor.
'Come to salvation, attain eternal bliss.' "Felaha erin, kurtuluşa erin."
No one else can say this; only the one who has a connection with God, the chosen one, who is ready and able to communicate with beyond the seven heavens can say this.
Therefore, 'There is no deity but God' is proof with an outward expression; and 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God' is a proof with an allusion, in term of the religious methodology. Dolayısıyla "dâll bi'l-ibare" ile "La ilahe illallah"; "dâll bi'l-işâre" ile -usuldeki ifadesiyle- "Muhammedu'r-Rasulullah".
All the past Prophets said so, and delivered the same message. Bütün peygamberân-ı ızâm, öyle diyor, aynı mesajı duyuruyor;
Prophet Noah said so as well. Hazreti Nuh da öyle demişti.
Once or twice, Prophet Moses prayed negatively about his obstinate people, particularly about Pharaoh, also known as Amenophis, who caused Moses all sorts of suffering.
'Moses begged to God as follows: "Musa, Allah'a şöyle yalvarıyordu:
O Lord! Rabbimiz!
You have given the Pharaoh and his leading authorities overwhelming ample wealth and splendour in life in this world; (on this basis) they are tricking people off Your path and into the valley of misguidance, o Lord! Sen, Firavun'a ve onun ileri gelen yetkililerine dünya hayatında göz kamaştırıcı bir debdebe ve bol servet verdin; (bunlara dayanarak) insanları Sen'in yolundan saptırıp dalâlet vadilerine atıyorlar Rabbimiz!
  Rabbimiz!
Destroy their wealth and load hardship upon hardship onto their hearts; it is apparent that without experiencing that pain they will not believe' (Yusuf, 10:88).
He says: 'My Lord! "Rabbim!
Is the purpose of You delaying their punishment based on giving them time to lose their way?' 'Our lord! "Rabbimiz!
Destroy their wealth and load hardship upon hardship onto their hearts.' Onların mallarını mahvet ve kalblerine sıkıntı üstüne sıkıntı ver" diyor.
The Pride of Humanity says: İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu buyuruyor ki:
'Amongst, the great Messengers, I am neither like Noah nor Moses.' "Ben, peygamberân-ı ızâm içinde, Hazreti Nuh ve Hazreti Musa gibi değilim."
Sometimes it can be so; when it comes to the matter of virtue, merits may not be completely the same for each person.
However, He says 'I, in terms of morality, am more like Abraham and Jesus!'
This is not just a memory or thought. Bu, ezbere değildir.
When Abraham was parting ways with his father, despite his father's persistent obstinacy, he still prayed for him: Hazreti İbrahim, babasından ayrılırken, babasının onca temerrüdüne rağmen, yine onun için dua ediyor:
'And forgive my father, for he is among those who have gone astray' (Ash-Shuara, 26:86). "Babamı da bağışla; çünkü o, sapıp gitmişler içinde bulunuyor" (Şuarâ, 26:86).
In response to Azar's statements of 'Go away, get out! Âzer'in "Git başımdan, defol!
Let me go!' and such, he still says, 'O My Lord! Bırak beni!" filan demesine karşı, o yine "Allah'ım!
Grant my father Your forgiveness as well!' Babamı da mağfiret buyur!" diyor.
If Azar is his father... Âzer, babası ise şayet.
Some exegesis say, 'uncle' since uncles were also called 'father'.
The noble Messiah also says, 'Good deeds are not done for the ones who act benevolent towards you; goodness and benevolence is to perform good deeds towards those who have harmed or acted malevolently towards you!' Seyyidinâ Hazreti Mesih de "İyilik, sana ihsanda bulunana yaptığın iyilik değildir; iyilik ve ihsan, sana kötülükte bulunana ihsanda bulunmandır!" diyor.
These are the traits of the noble Messiah, adopted by the Pride of Humanity. Bu, seyyidinâ Hazreti Mesih'in huyu, ahlakı; İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu, onu da benimseniş.
The Qur'an, addresses to him: Kur'an, O'na diyor ki:
'Evil and goodness cannot be one. "İyilikle kötülük bir olmaz.
Repel evil with what is better (or best). O halde sen kötülüğü en güzel tarzda uzaklaştırmaya bak.
Then see: the one between whom and you there was enmity has become a bosom friend' (Fussilat, 41:34). (Fussilet, 41:34).
Good and evil are not one and the same. "Hasene" ile "seyyie" bir değildir.
Good and bad are different from each other. "İyilik" ile "kötülük" birbirinden farklı şeyledir.
One, like a pointer, points towards Hell; the other alike the needle of a compass, points to Paradise.
These are very different from one another. Birbirinden çok farklıdır bunlar.
In times where the gap between the two has increased, these matters are so far from one another; Açının en fazla açıldığı dönemde, bu meselelerin ikisi birbirinden o kadar uzak;
the angle between good and evil is so great. açı o kadar geniştir hasene ile seyyie arasında.
Good and bad cannot be one. İyilikle kötülük bir olmaz.
In that case, rid the bad with the good. O halde sen kötülüğü iyilikle sav.
Rid evil with good; Sen kötülüğü iyilikle sav;
and then you will see that the one who lives with hatred towards you stands before you with open arms. o zaman bir de bakarsın ki, kalbinden senin için sürekli düşmanlığın fokurdayıp durduğu o insan, sana bağrını açar, seni kucaklamak ister.
Today you are passing through a test like this. Şimdi, bugün böyle bir imtihandan geçiyorsunuz.
True courage is to persist in goodness in the face of those who have exceeded themselves in evil.
Just as the first father Adam called his sons good (Abel) and bad (Cain). İlk Baba'nın evlatlarının iyisinin (Hâbil) kötüsüne (Kâbil) dediği gibi.
Cain said to Abel, 'If you reach your hand out to kill me, I will not reach my hand out to you.'
'Surely I will fear God, the Lord of the worlds' (Al-Maedah, 5:28). Hiç şüphesiz ben, Âlemlerin Rabbi'nden korkarım" (Mâide, 5:28).
Even if you raise your hand against me, if you use weapons, if you strike me with a hammer, I do not intend to reach out to hurt you. Öldürmek için el kaldırsan bana, öldürme unsurlarını kullansan, balta ile tepeme vursan, balyoz ile tepeme vursan, sana el uzatma niyetinde değilim.
I fear God! Allah'tan korkarım!
These actions will end with you being put into Hell. Fakat böyle bir şeyin sonu, esasen senin Cehennem'e gitmendir.
Acting in one way or another to each other, may lead to one person ending up in hell for their actions.
In fact, Abel did not wish for his brother to go to hell. Aslında, Hâbil, kardeşinin Cehennem'e gitmesini de asla istemez.
The son of Prophet Adam would not wish for this. O istemez; Hazreti Âdem'in evladı, Hâbil.
Forget that, even I say to those who commit evil against you: Bırak onu, Kıtmîr bile, size kötülük yapanlara karşı diyor ki:
'Oh God, do not punish them with Your torment, save us from the Your torment and Hellfire. "Allah'ım, onları da ahirette azabınla cezaya uğratma; azabından onları da uzaklaştır ve halâs eyle; Cehennem azabından onları da kurtar.
If You will punish them, then give their punishments in a gentle manner on earth.'
For they will come to You with their heads lowered in the Hereafter, feeling embarrassed. Zira öbür tarafta yüzleri asık, başları önlerinde; karşına çıkacaklar o mahcubiyet içinde.
They will beg for compassion from others. Bakışlarıyla senden şefkat dileniyor gibi dilenecek, o kötülük yapanlar.
Those who do not accept this right to exist and those sought to defame You, will come to You helplessly in the Hereafter. Bugün sana hakk-ı hayat tanımayanlar, seni itibarsızlaştırmaya çalışanlar, öbür tarafta boyunları bükük, başları önlerinde, senin yanına gelecekler.
'Oh God! "Allah'ım!
In order to protect them from such embarrassment, if you must do something, act in this world!
I beg of You! Do not torture them in the Hereafter; Bahtına düştüm, öbür tarafta onları ta'zîb etme; onların ta'zîbi ile beni de azaba uğratma!
I would not be able to endure it. Çünkü ben, dayanamam!
To see others incinerated in Hell. Başkalarının cayır cayır Cehennem'de yanmalarına dayanamam."
If I, the worst amongst these people think like this then of course a Prophet will say: 'Yet if you stretch out your hand against me to kill me, I will not stretch out my hand against you to kill you.
Surely I fear God, the Lord of the worlds' (Al-Maedah, 5:28). Hiç şüphesiz ben, Âlemlerin Rabbi'nden korkarım" (Mâide, 5:28) der.
In this respect, this should be our morality and character. Bu açıdan, ahlak ve karakter bu olmalı.
Then you will see goodness being reciprocated by goodness. O zaman, iyiliğin iyilik doğuracağını göreceksiniz.
Without realising, the dispersed seeds of goodness will transform into goodness. Siz hiç farkına varmadan, saçtığınız iyilik tohumları, iyilik başaklarına dönüşecek.
And when you turn to look back, you will say, 'Oh! Ve geriye dönüp bir baktığınız zaman, "Oo!
So many grains produced from good; so many sycamores and cypresses were generated from the seeds of goodness. İyilikten bir sürü başak türemiş; iyilik fidelerinden bir sürü çınarlar, selviler meydana gelmiş, Allah'ın izni-inayetiyle.
These are such opportunities; I have won!' Meğer bunlar, bu türlü şeyleri tevlîd edecekmiş, onlara vesile olacakmış; kazanmışım ben!" diyeceksiniz.
Is this the right way, or is it to respond to them in a like manner?
Without realising, some of us, with the shock of the event, pollute our neurons by constantly concentrating on what they have done. Farkına varmadan, bazılarımız, hadisenin şoku ile, onların yaptıkları şeyleri bahis mevzuu yapmak suretiyle nöronlarımızı kirletme durumuna düşüyoruz.
I may be narrating from my point of view; maybe it doesn't cross your mind. Belki Kıtmîr, bunu kendi açısından söylüyor; belki sizin aklınızın köşesinden geçmiyordur.
Does it cross my mind, can it be processed by my thalamus, does it cross my pituitary gland, or does it have any effect on my neurons; I do not know. Benim aklımın köşesinden mi geçiyor, Talamus'umdan mı geçiyor, Hipofiz bezimden mi geçiyor, nöronlarıma mı gelip çarpıyor o tsunamiler; bilemiyorum.
What is of importance here is, as our noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, says; Fakat önemli olan, Efendimiz'in (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) buyurduğu gibi;
'Patience is apparent at the moment of crisis.' "Sabır, hadisenin şokunun yaşandığı ândadır."
For example, I experienced the 1971 Turkish military memorandum on March the 12th. Mesela Kıtmîr, 12 Mart Muhtırası'nı görmüştüm.
Today, when I narrate stories from the 70's to you, I explain them in a humorous way. Şimdi yetmişli senelere dair çektiğim hadiseleri anlatırken size, sizi güldürecek fıkralar şeklinde anlatıyorum.
After the 12th of March, I was arrested, insulted by many. 12 Mart Muhtırası sonrası içeriye alınmışsın, hakaretler görmüşsün.
For example I was poisoned; just like your brothers in prison currently, you are coming in and out of consciousness. Mesela zehirlenmişsin. -Vakıayı arz ediyorum; şimdi sizin kardeşlerinizin çektiği gibi aynen.- Sen, kendinde değilsin.
The following day the responsible officer approaches you. Ertesi gün vazifeli adam geliyor.
I will narrate directly his speech, apologies for the language, Aynen, aynı ağzı kullanacağım, rahatsız olmayın; onun ağzı, benim ağzım değil bu.
'Hey Imam, weren't you dying yesterday?' "Lan hoca, dün geberiyordun."
Yes, you suffered in the past. Evet, çekmişsin.
However, as I explain such incidents, I do so, almost fondly; and you all correspond with a similar manner. Fakat şimdi ben bunları anlatırken, tebessüm ederek anlatıyorum; siz de tebessüm ile mukabelede bulunuyorsunuz.
At that time, I was imprisoned for three years, and one year of exile in Sinop.
In 1980. Seksen senesi.
They make you suffer because you are religious, believe in God, because you read and study books that lead people to God. "Niye dindarsın!" diye, "Neden Allah'a inanıyorsun!" diye, "Neden insanları Allah'a götürebilecek çizgide, o yörüngede ortaya konmuş kitapları okuyorsun!" diye çektiriyorlar.
And you are convicted for what? Bunların karşılığında hangi madde ile sizi mahkûm ediyorlar?
The first paragraph of the 163th article of the Turkish penal law: 163'ün birinci fıkrası.
'Undermining the economic, political, cultural, state and placing importance unto religious principles in order to constitute subvert society.' "İktisadî, siyasî, kültürel, devletin temel nizamlarını dinî esaslar üzerine oturtmak maksadıyla cemiyet teşkil etme."
For six years I hid and they chased me. Tam altı sene ben kaçtım, onlar kovaladılar.
My face and name was everywhere, on billboards saying, 'Wanted!' Her yerde, billboardlarda resmim var, adım var, "Bu aranıyor!" falan diyorlar.
Six years later... Altı sene sonra.
May Paradise be his station; may God bestow the people of today with his mercy and mindset, and allow others to also be in a movement united around high human values! Makamı Cennet olsun; Allah, şimdikilere de onun insafını, iz'ânını, aklını, firâsetini, Hak yolunda hizmete taraftar olma duygusunu ihsan eylesin!
Turgut Özal stood strong. Turgut Özal, ayağını sağlam yere basmıştı.
He went through different government roles before being prime minister followed by president. Devlet Planlama Teşkilatı'nda serkârlık yapmış; sonra bakan olmuş, sonra başbakan olmuş, sonra Cumhurbaşkanı olmuş.
Just when he stood strong, I was taken into custody in Burdur.
And this is an anecdote that makes you smile.
With rigor and rage, and hatred and vehemence, they captured you. Şiddet ile, hiddet ile, celâdet ile, nefret ile sizi derdest ediyorlar.
I still feel the rifle barrel pressing down on my stomach. Hâlâ tüfeğin namlusunun böyle karnıma sokulduğunu hissediyor gibiyim.
They captured me saying, 'Man, if you move, you are dead!' "Kıpırdarsan, lan, seni gebertirim!" diye yakaladılar.
However that night, the leader of the nation stood firm, and everyone's attitude changed. Fakat o gece, işte o günün başındaki insan, ağırlığını koydu yere; ertesi gün, hepsi temennâ durmaya başladı.
There was someone who would talk to my detriment, and request proof of every claim made, who made things hard for us. Benim aleyhimde konuşup atıp-tutan, habire ha delil getirip insanın önüne döken ve orada ifade alan -rahmetlik pederin adında- birisi vardı; çok güzel (!) bir insan.
But when the nation's leader asserted himself, they had nothing to do but let us go. Sonra o baştaki zat ağırlığını koyunca, salıverdiler bizi.
They took us to the city of Izmir, and they did not want us; 'We have no search warrant for him!' they said. İzmir'e götürdüler; İzmir de kabul etmedi bizi, "Biz aramıyoruz!" dediler.
Others also said the same. Öbürleri de "Zaten biz de aramıyoruz!" dediler.
The person, who committed that evil later, said, 'Oh dear teacher, give me permission to kiss your blessed hand'. O kötülüğü yapan insan, "Yahu hocam!" dedi, "Müsaade buyur, şu mübarek elini bir öpeyim!"
Indeed... Evet.
See, did it not make you smile? Bakın, tebessüm ettirdi mi, ettirmedi mi size?
So, how are you sure that your suffering now will not turn into a fable and cause you to smile as well.
For that reason, Onun için,
'Talent in this world is to transform struggles into pleasure, "Mihneti kendine zevk etmektir âlemde hüner
The happiness and sadness of destiny comes and goes. Şâd u gam-ı felek, böyle gelmiş, böyle gider."
By Enderuni Vasıf... Enderûnî Vâsıf.
You will know him from his words: Siz onu,
'O heart-thief, don't lose those who are bound to your locks! "Çözülme zülfüne, ey dil-ruba, dil bağlayanlardan
You must remember the words, 'do not escape the fire of your heart'. Kaçınma âteş-i aşkınla bağrın dağlayanlardan" sözleri ile tanırsınız.
However, there are things that come with belied in Divine Destiny.
'Talent in this world is to transform struggles into pleasure, "Mihneti kendine zevk etmektir âlemde hüner
The happiness and sadness of destiny comes and goes. Şâd u gam-ı felek, böyle gelmiş, böyle gider."
'Whatever was destined will certainly happen, "Zuhura gelir, ne ise hükm-ü kader
Commit your affairs to God; neither be grieved nor suffer any pain'. Hakk'a tefviz-i umûr et, ne elem çek, ne keder."
Indeed, acceptance of fate is such a high attribute.
It may seem like you haven't done much but when you enter the other realm your faults will be placed on one pan of the scale. Hiçbir şey yapmamış gibi görünürsün; fakat sen öbür tarafa gittiğinde, terazinin bir kefesine koyarlar zühullerini senin.
I won't call them 'faults', they can be mistakes, for these can be forgiven. Sana "hata" demeyeceğim; hata da olabilir, çünkü hatadan kalem merfûdur.
(The pen of the angels does not write the mistakes and things we forget; there is no accountability for these types of faults.) (Yazıcı meleklerin kalemleri, hataları ve nisyanları yazmaz; hata ve nisyandan mesuliyet olmaz.)
The acts of forgetfulness will be placed on the other side of the scale. Nisyanlarını bir kefeye koyarlar.
And suddenly the scale will tilt completely to one side. Kefe, birden bire yere oturur.
Then without us noticing something similar to an armband will be placed on the opposite end of the scale, Sonra, hiç farkına varmadan, getirir oraya bir pazubent gibi bir şey koyarlar, öbür kefeye.
And suddenly this will lift the other end of the scale up. Birden bire diğer kefe yukarıya kalkar; o, aşağıya iner.
You will ask: Sorarsın:
'O Lord, what is this?' He will reply, 'This represents the declaration of God's Oneness and Unity. This is the ultimate truth of 'There is no deity but God': "Ya Rabbi, bu nedir?" "Bu, kelime-i tevhîd" denilir; o, "La ilahe illallah" hakikatidir:
'There is no other deity worthy of worship nor any true desired one other than God! "Allah'tan başka Ma'bud-i bil-hak, Maksûd-i bil-istihkâk yok!
I am content with His Lordship!', 'I am content with God as my Lord, Islam as my religion and Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, as a Messenger/Prophet.'
When one 'consents' and accepts calamities, God Almighty raises that person to such high ranks.
'Oh my God! "Allah Allah!
How is it possible that from something negative a person is brought to the rank of Gabriel?'
And Gabriel takes a step back; I say this because our noble Prophet made him take a few steps back. Ve Cebrail yarım adım geriye çekilerek, -Öyle diyorum, çünkü Efendimiz'de adım adım geriye çekildi)
'Oh my God! "Allah Allah!
The person will ponder, 'I had are carnal, animalistic and human desires, each with negative impacts; how was it possible to overcome these and come to such a position?' Cismaniyet var, hayvaniyet var, garîze-i beşeriye var, farklı olumsuz duygular var bunda; bunları nasıl aştı, buraya ulaştı?" diye hayret edecek.
Because a person is created differently. Çünkü sen farklı bir yapıya sahipsin.
Angels are created from Divine light and they are created only to worship and please God Almighty. Onlar, nurdan yaratılmış, Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın rızasından başka bir şey düşünmüyorlar.
However, in a person's essence, there is a target for Satan's conniving arrows to pierce, and a place for the gazes of angels, and also a place for the Divine Self-disclosure. Fakat senin mahiyetinde şeytanın oklarına hedef yeri de var, melâike-i kiramın nazargâhı olan yerler de var, aynı zamanda -Melâike-i kiram için hâşâ "Bırakın!" demeyeceğim; onları katmayalım işin içine- Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın tecelligâh-ı İlahîsi olan bir "beyt-i Hudâ" var.
A Divine Abode... Bir beyt-i Hudâ.
'The heart is the Divine Abode, purify it of all else. "Dil, beyt-i Hudâ'dır, anı pâk eyle sivâdan
For the All-Merciful may descend to His abode at night' says Ibrahim Haqqi. Kasrına nüzul eyleye Rahman, gecelerde" diyor İbrahim Hakkı hazretleri.
'God's pleasure' will quickly and directly raise you to such a level that, once there, you will turn back and smile at what you have lived through in the past.
You will say, 'How funny were those days! "Ne komik şeyler imiş onlar!
Some funny people used to call us 'terrorists'. Bize 'Terörist!' demişler bir kısım komik insanlar, 'Terörist!' demişler" dersin.
We have given our hearts to Him. Biz, gönlümüzü O'na kaptırmışız.
If we literally lost our heart to Him, we should not be affected by these negative things. Gönül O'na kaptırılmış ise şayet, o türlü olumsuz şeyleri düşünmez.
Similar to how Muhammad Lütfi Effendi expressed his feelings towards the Spirit of the Master of Humankind: Nasıl, yine Alvar İmamı diyor, Hazreti Rûh-u Seyyidi'l-Enâm için:
'This heart is so fond of you, O beloved: Why? "Sana, Cânân, gönül hayran nedendir
Your beauty is shining like the bright day: Why? Cemâlin gün gibi rahşan, nedendir
Your eyebrow is like the "two bow-length's nearness to God" Kaşındır kâbe kavseyni ev ednâ
Your face brings to our minds the chapter of the All-Merciful: Why?' Yüzündür sûre-i Rahman, nedendir?"
You are walking behind such a person, towards such a destination that thousands of years of a blissful life in this world will not be not worth a single moment of it!
If this is your earning, then all these hardships become the steps that take you to that level.
Say 'We are pleased with Him'. "Razı olduk!" de.
'God is sufficient for me. "Allah bana yeter.
There is no deity but He. O'ndan başka ilah yoktur.
In Him have I put my trust. Ben yalnız O'na dayanırım.
And He is the Lord of the Supreme Throne' (At-Tawbah 9:129) and catch your breath, this will feel like oxygen.
'God is sufficient for me. "Allah, bana kâfi ve vâfîdir;
How great a Protector He is!' O, ne güzel Mevlâ'dır."
'And in this Protector I put my trust!' "Ben de işte o Mevlâ'ya tevekkül ettim!"
'He is the Creator of the Divine Throne.' "Arş-ı Azîm'in Rabbi, O'dur.
He is the Lord of the Divine Throne, and I am His loyal, attached and devoted servant.' Benim de O'na bağlı olduğum, dilbestesi olduğum, dildârı olduğum, Arş-ı Azim'in Rabbidir O."
In the face of all these, do not pollute your neurons by dwelling on the troubles caused by people who are in loss. Bütün bu kazanımlar karşısında, kazanma kuşağında kaybeden insanların size çektirdikleri şeyleri gözünüzde çok büyüterek, nöronlarınızı kirletmeyin.
If you can, wish them true guidance. Elinizden geliyorsa, onlar için hidayet dileğinde bulunun.
Say, 'Oh God, guide us and grant them true guidance.' "Allah'ım bize hidayet et; onları da hidayete erdir" deyin.
The Qur'an teaches us the supplication: 'Guide us to the Straight Path', using the first person plural pronoun. Kur'an-ı Kerim, "Bizi Dosdoğru Yol'a hidayet et" duasını talim buyuruyor; mütekellim-i ma'a'l-ğayr (birinci çoğul şahıs sigası) ile.
They can also be involved here. But regardless, you should say this while not excluding them as well.
'Guide us to the Straight Path—the path of those whom You have favoured, not of those who have incurred (Your) wrath nor of those who are astray.' "Bize hidayet et; onları da doğru yola, kendilerine nimet verdiklerinin yoluna ilet, gazaba uğrayanlarınkine ve sapıklarınkine değil."
He is the One Who endowed you with your particular nature and characteristics. Donanımınız itibarıyla, sizi donatan O'dur.
Because of the performance you will display in the future, He may forgive you through His Mercy and Compassion. Gelecek adına sergileyeceğiniz performanstan ötürü Allah (celle celâluhu), Rahmâniyeti ile, Rahîmiyeti ile muamele yapıp sizi bağışlayabilir.
This is definite... O, müsellem; o, mahfuz.
Let's mention this as an aside. Onu antrparantez geçelim.
But essentially, as a fundamental principle, after faith comes action.
Faith without deeds is like a tree bound to dry up and die. Amelsiz iman, kurumaya mahkûm bir ağaç gibidir.
And consequently, even if it rains constantly, and the earth with its fertility and growth capacity runs to its aid, and all say, 'Come to life with these', that tree is bound to die. Dolayısıyla da elli bin defa başından yağmur yağsa, toprak bütün kuvve-i inbâtiyesi ile onun imdadına koşsa, bilmem ne karbondioksitler başından aşağıya aksa, "Yahu diril bunlar ile!" dese, yine dirilmez, yine dirilmez, yine dirilmez.
Faith without deeds is bound to extinguish. Amelsiz iman, sönmeye mahkûmdur.
And at the same time, action without knowledge and depth only serves to tire the body.
There needs to be knowledge and depth. "Marifet" olacak.
That knowledge and depth will nourish the love of God. Sonra marifet, o meşcereliğinde "muhabbet-i İlahiyeyi" geliştirecek.
And such a love for God will take root in your heart that, as expressed in the saying, 'Those who believe and do good deeds', you will run from faith to good deeds, to knowledge of God, and if you have the capacity: 'Is there no more?'
Saying, 'Is there no more? Is there no more?', you will continue to walk in ardour and longing for God. Daha yok mu, daha yok mu, daha yok mu?" deyip iştiyâk-ı likâullaha doğru hep adım atmaya devam edeceksiniz.
These all complement each other. Bunlar, birbirini tamamlayıcı şeyler.
What we call 'deed' initially is only the first step. Bu baştaki "amel" dediğimiz mesele, işin ilk basamağıdır.
But the first step is paramount in getting to the last.
Evil is similar; every step taken in the path of evil, opens the door to other evils.
One who lies once can lie at any time; in one regard, it means that person has opened the doors to lying. Bir kere yalan söyleyen, her zaman söyleyebilir; bir yönüyle, yalana karşı kapıyı aralamış demektir.
One who slanders once, can slander at any time. Bir kere iftira eden, her zaman iftira edebilir.
One who makes certain claims in the morning and then different claims in the evening, can do this for a lifetime. Bir kere sabah başka, akşam başka beyanatlarda bulunan, ömür boyu sabah başka, akşam başka, başka türlü görüntüler ile karşınıza çıkabilir.
Once the heart swerves, once it is stained, 'No no!
But what they themselves have earned has rusted upon their hearts (and prevents them from perceiving the truth)' (Al-Mutaffifin 83:14), once this has been stamped on the person, that stain is the calling for other stains.
Once the heart is tainted, Kalb, "Hayır hayır!
it is an invitation for further tainted.
But if you immediately seek a means of purification, seek repentance and forgiveness, say 'I turned to You' with repentance, confirm your turning to God with sincere penitence, and become, in a sense, annihilated in turning to God in contrition, then there will be no 'me'.
'If you take a glance at the appearance, there is you and me. "Sûrete nazar eyler isen sen ile ben var
But in truth, there is neither you nor me.'
Turning to God in contrition. Evbe'de, işte o durum söz konusudur.
In this case there is neither 'me', nor 'you', there is only Him, may He be glorified and exalted.
One's heart once there will only say 'He'. Orada insanın kalbi, sadece "Hû" diye soluklanır, "Hüve" der durur.
As Imam al-Ghazali and Bediüzzaman have both mentioned: Hazreti Gazzâlî'nin İhyâ'sında ifade ettiği gibi, aynı zaman Hazreti Pîr-i Mugân, Şem'-î Tâbân da ifade ediyor:
It is possible for mankind to be deceived by Divine Mercy. İnsan için, rahmet-i ilahiye mülahazasıyla aldanma da muhtemeldir.
One would sin and sin, forgive me but would engage in all sorts of unthinkable actions and then say, 'God Almighty, the All-Forgiving, All-Compassionate' and console himself for those actions. Yapar, yapar, bağışlayın akla hayale gelmedik haltları karıştırır; sonra "Allah, Gafûr ve Rahim'dir!" der, teselli olur onunla.
Look, essentially this is the approach of Satan from the right. Bakın bu, şeytanın sağdan gelmesi demektir esasen.
Why do you not say, 'God is the All-Forgiving, the All-Compassionate!' before you engage in the sin? Yahu niye günaha girmeden önce, "Allah, Gafûr ve Rahîmdir!" demiyorsun?
You make mistakes, you forget. Hataların vardır, nisyanın vardır.
The noble Messenger declares, 'The pen does not write that which is a mistake or forgetfulness.' Beyân-ı Nebevî içinde, "Kalem, hata ve nisyandan kaldırılmıştır, onları yazmaz."
A mistake... Hata.
But it is disrespect to our Lord. Ama Rabbimize karşı ayıptır.
In seeking my own forgiveness, I say: Kıtmîr'in istiğfarında:
'From all of my sins, all of my mistakes, all of my actions that could represent rebellion to God, engaging in manners and conduct that God does not like and would not be pleased with, also things that are not tasks for us, that have no benefit to us in this world and the Hereafter, I seek forgiveness thousands and millions of times.' "Bütün günahlardan, topyekûn hatalardan, Allah'a isyan manasına gelen her fiilden, Rabbimizin sevmeyeceği ve razı olmayacağı hal, tavır ve işlerin tamamından, bir de üstümüze vazife olmayan, bize dünya ahiret fayda vermeyen ve katiyen yakışmayan şeylerin hepsinden binlerce kere, milyon defa istiğfar ediyorum."
Things that do not befit us when we face God. Bize yakışmayan, Allah karşısında.
I look and see that my mistakes and forgetfulness do not suit my nature!
These are things that do not befit me to God Almighty Who created me in the best of stature, gave me the opportunity to increase my spiritual rank higher than angels. Beni ahsen-i takvîme mazhar yaratan, icabından meleklerin önüne geçme imkânını, istidadını veren Allah'a (celle celâluhu) karşı yakışıksız, yaraşmayan şeyler.
I seek refuge from God for all of these too. Onlardan da Allah'a sığınırım.
If you always engage in good deeds, if your tongue constantly recites these, you are winning without realising. Şimdi sürekli iyilik yaptığın halde, dilin hep bunu vird-i zebân ediyorsa, kazanıyorsun, farkına varmadan.
Because, again the noble Messenger states: Çünkü yine Hazreti Rûh-u Seyyidi'l-Enâm buyuruyor ki:
'How fortunate a person he is, that his book of good deeds is filled with seeking forgiveness!' "Ne mutlu o insana ki, defter-i hasenâtında istiğfar çok olur!"
So that his book was filled with it, the noble Messenger, in the words of our mother Aisha, while in a gathering would ask for forgiveness seventy times.
But it is disrespect to God Almighty and a false hope to talk about the plains of Heaven by those whose lives are spent in the valleys of sin. Fakat ömrünü günah vadilerinde geçirdiği halde, buhbuha-i Cennet'ten dem vurmak, yalancı bir recâ ve Hazreti Rahman-ı Rahim'e karşı da saygısızlıktır.
Let alone doing a good deed, they are the ones who constantly wander in the valley of sins.
They sin with their hands, with their tongues, with their eyes, with their ears. Eli ile günah işliyor, dili ile günah işliyor, gözü ile günah işliyor, kulağı ile günah işliyor.
They are constantly gossiping, forming accusations and harming others. Sürekli gıybet ediyor, iftirada bulunuyor, başkalarına kötülük yapıyor.
They are separating mothers from their babies, and babies from their mothers. Anneyi evladından ediyor; evladı annesinden ediyor.
With guilt by association they say, 'You must also be one of them!' and throw them into prison with such claims.
However in both modern law and Islamic law there is a 'specificity of crime'. Hâlbuki modern hukukta da İslam hukukunda da "suçun hususiliği" vardır.
Specific crimes require specific punishments. Suçun hususiliği, cezanın hususiliğini gerektirir.
'You talked with so and so, during this time, on the phone', thus you are a criminal. "Sen, falan ile, falan zamanda telefon ile konuşmuşsun; dolayısıyla mücrimsin.
A person, who committed a wrongdoing, was carrying 1 dollar; since 1 dollar was found on you as well, you must be guilty too!
This person is wearing a patterned prayer cap; since you are wearing that prayer cap too, it means you are counted as one of them.
A terrorist organisation... You too are part of this terrorist organisation!' Terör örgütü; sen de terör örgütüsün!"
These actions were not even witnessed in the Pharaoh's legal system, may God protect us from it.
If these kinds of people, who are slithering through the valleys of Hell, are able to say 'I'm a Muslim!', I am going to make a vow: Böylesine Cehennem vadilerinde düşe-kalka yürüyen bir insan, "Müslümanım!" diyorsa, yemin edeceğim:
I swear to God they are not! Vallahi de değildir, billahi de değildir, tallahi de değildir!
A person, who has murdered so many, is no different from the Pharaoh, Hitler, Lenin, Saddam and Gaddafi. Onca cinayet işleyen bir insanın, Firavun'dan farkı yok, Hitler'den farkı yok, Lenin'den farkı yok, Saddam'dan farkı yok, Kazzâfî'den farkı yok.
They talk wildly about heaven but that is Satan approaching from the right. Cennet'ten dem vuruyor ama şeytanın sağdan gelmesi.
Look, how he deceives them with the sensation of hope for God's grace and mercy. Bakın, nasıl bir recâ hissiyle onu aldatıyor.
He says: Diyor ki:
'You are committing these actions but never mind, God is the All-Forgiving and All-Merciful; act however you want!' "Sen işliyorsun bunları ama boş ver, Allah Gafur ve Rahîm'dir; ne işlersen işle!"
Albeit those who have always done good say: Vakıa hep iyilik yapanlar demişler:
'Even if my sins have reached the size of mountains, O Almighty One! "Ger günahım kûh-i Kâf olsa ne gamdır ya Celîl
Compared to Your Mercy, they are just small things.' Rahmetin bahrına nisbet ennehû şey'ün kalîl"
Imam Shafi says: İmam Şafiî hazretleri de demiş:
'When my heart was tied to gloom and roads became steep, I made hope a ladder to Your forgiveness. "Kalbim kasvet bağlayıp yollar da sarpa sarınca, ümidimi affına merdiven yaptım.
My sins grew before my eyes but when compared to Your forgiveness, I found Your forgiveness to be greater than any comprehension.' Günahım gözümde büyüdükçe büyüdü ama onu alıp affının yanına koyunca, affını tasavvurlar üstü büyük buldum." "Yollar, sarpa sardı, daraldı; vicdanım da daraldı; öbür tarafa yöneliş başladı.
But I have made my hope for God's grace and mercy a ladder to Your forgiveness!' says Imam Shafi. Ama recâ hissimi, Sen'in affına merdiven yaptım!" diyor, İmam Şafiî.
This is a person that dedicated his fifty five year life to five hundred and fifty years worth of good deeds.
The great people who came after him recognised his works as a guide for themselves. Kendinden sonra gelen dev insanlar, onun yazıp ortaya koyduğu âsâr-ı bergüzideyi, kendilerine rehber yapmışlar.
A person who doesn't even imagine sin: Hayaline dahi günahın misafir olmadığı bir zat:
He says 'I seek refuge in Your forgiveness. "Senin affına sığınıyorum.
Your forgiveness is much greater than my sins'. Affın, benim günahlarımdan çok daha büyüktür" diyor.
This is the expectation and hope of a person who truly believes. Bu, inanmış bir insanın recâsıdır, ümididir.
But for one who constantly trips over bad deeds, who finds them self-stuck in mud and throws it at others, who comes up with new slanders every day against those who strive to spread the truth across the globe, who have come together to slander and throw muck at others, muck spirited people. Ama mâsiyette düşe-kalka yürüyen, hep zift bataklığı içinde zift neşreden, her gün çok farklı iftiralar ile, din-i mübîn-i İslam'ın her yerde şehbal açmasını isteyen insanlara ayrı bir iftirada bulunan, müfterilik adına kurulmuş ve bir zift jurnalciliği etrafında kümelenmiş, zift ruhlu insanlar.
Mud minded people. Zift düşünceli insanlar.
If such people are finding comfort in 'God is the All-Forgiving and All-Compassionate!', this is Satan's voice coming from the right, using good for evil to trick those miserable people into a path of falsehood.
The first of these two is a legitimate hope for God's grace and mercy by a person, who sees himself as a criminal, despite being a great believer. Bunlardan birincisi gerçek recâdır ki, iyilik yaptığı halde bile kendisini çok mücrim, çok günahkâr görüyor;
He says 'If the One Who Calls Into Account judges me with these all these sins, "Ger beni bu günahlarla tartarsa Hazreti Deyyân
The scale of the Divine Throne would break'. Kırılır arsa-i mahşerde arş-ı mizan" diyor.
This is fear in committing even what is permissible, piety. Havf, bu.
'At the heart of wisdom lies the fear of God.' "Hikmetin başı, Allah korkusudur."
This is our noble Prophet's expression. Peygamber Efendimiz'in beyanı.
Another way to express this would be, 'At the heart of wisdom lies recognising God's endless grandeur and power'. Farklı şeklide ifade ederken, Kıtmîr, "mehabet" kelimesini kullanıyorum; "Hikmetin başı mehâbetullah'tır."
I believe this is the best way to approach it, especially when teaching children. Bunu derken de meseleyi çocuklara anlatırken, böyle anlatmanın lüzumuna inanıyorum.
Instead of scaring them, we must bring attention to His grandeur and greatness. We should instill love for God in them by saying, 'Look, despite being the most powerful, He still treats you with compassion and kindness!'
Put the love of God in the hearts of others. Cenâb-ı Hakk'ı sevdirme.
But, 'At the origin of wisdom lies fear of God.' Ama "Hikmet'in başı, Allah korkusudur."
'What elevates morality is neither knowledge nor conscience, "Ne irfandır veren ahlaka yükseklik, ne vicdandır;
Fear of God is the real source of all virtue and excellence in people. Fazilet hissi insanlarda, Allah korkusundandır.
Suppose fear of God was removed from the hearts, Yüreklerden silinsin -farz edelim- havf-ı Yezdân'ın,
Neither knowledge nor conscience would preserve its impact. Ne irfanın kalır tesiri, ne vicdanın.
Life has now become animalistic; no, it is even lower than that'. Hayat, artık behâimdir; hayır, ondan da alçaktır."
Let those who are following a road of ignominy follow that road; you should keep thinking positive things about them. Varsın, alçaklık yolunda sülûk edenler, o yolda yürüyedursunlar; siz, onlar hakkında bile iyilikler düşünmeye devam edin.
Instead of reacting to evil with evil, react with goodness, by portraying your gentleman behaviour, your human nature, your character, just as the Pride of Humanity, the noble Messiah did.
'Everyone will act as their values and character (which are shaped by their beliefs and world view, and which determine what they believe to be right and wrong) see fit' (Al-Isra, 17:84). "Herkes, (inanç ve dünya görüşünden kaynaklanan, kendine göre doğru ölçülerin şekillendirdiği) seciye ve karakterine göre davranır" (İsrâ, 17:84).
Everyone acts accordingly to their own character. Herkes, karakterinin gereğini sergiler.
Some people are fulfilling their character; they are living life with cruelty, they are talking tyrannically, they are thinking cruelly, they are looking oppressively at others. Birileri karakterlerinin gereğini sergiliyorlar; zulüm ile oturup kalkıyorlar, zulüm söylüyorlar, zulüm düşünüyorlar, bakışlarından zulüm akıyor.
Your character, is however not suitable for this. Fakat sizin karakteriniz buna müsait değil.
It shouldn't be cruelty, but rather justice that is seen from your faces, justice should be heard by your ears, your mouths should always speak justice, and your hearts should beat with the feelings of justice. Zulüm değil, sizin bakışınızdan adalet dökülmeli, kulaklarınızda hep adalet çınlamalı, ağzınız hep adaleti telaffuz etmeli, kalbiniz adalet duygusuyla çarpıp durmalı.
May God allow us to be on the level of these people! Allah, bizi bu seviyenin insanlarından eylesin!
As well as forgive me for the things I have said! Dediğim şeylerden dolayı da beni affetsin!
My apologies. Siz de kusura bakmayın.
