I Feel Pity!

Both the Islamic world and your blessed country are going through dark times currently.
The country whose soil you deem sacred. Toprağını tûtiyâ gibi gözünüze süreceğiniz memleketinizde.
I always thought about taking a handful of that soil and rubbing it in my face and eyes because I consider that soil to be sacred. Hususiyle Kıtmîr açısından meseleye bakacak olursanız, hep aklımdan geçmiştir, uçaktan indiğim an bir avuç toprağını alıp yüzüme-gözüne süreyim, diye; benim nazarımda o kadar kutsaldır.
Because for nearly a thousand years your ancestors, your grandfathers and their grandparents strived to always uphold the truth.
It is that sort of nation that you come from. Öyle bir ülke.
You emerged there; even if it was based on imitation, you learned to love your religion, God and His Messenger in that country. Siz, orada neş'et etmişsiniz; taklidî dahi olsa, yani görmeye uyma şeklinde bile olsa, duymaya uyma şeklinde bile olsa, dininizi-diyanetinizi, Allah ve Peygamber sevginizi hep o ülkede öğrendiniz.
When you went to different parts of the world, you went with the qualities you inherited from that country, with God's permission and grace.
However, when we look at the current situation, the country has become a place where anger and violence thrive. To the extent in which that when somebody looks from the outside they say, 'May God protect us from ending up there'. Fakat hâlihazırdaki durumuna bakılınca, şiddetin, hiddetin, öfkenin fokur fokur kaynadığı bir ülke haline gelmiş; dıştan bakan insanlara, "Aman, Allah içine düşürmesin" dedirtecek kadar.
That is how ugly and hostile the country has become. It is a country where hostility destroys everything and drives people away.
May God bestow people with vision and foresight. Cenâb-ı Hak, basiretli insanlar ihsan eylesin.
I must also say the following: Söz, oraya gelince şunu da ifade edeyim:
Right now the young people here might think, 'That is our country' and go back.
As a side point, even when things improve, and you think of returning, you should think wisely and say, 'I must stay wherever I can be of more benefit to humanity'.
In my opinion there should be one sensible person in every place, one who is not a slave of imitation and not a superficial believer.
A person who has internalised everything. Her şeyi sindirmiş, içtenleştirmiş.
A person whose actions represent their beliefs. Tavır ve davranışlarına aksediyor inandığı şeyler.
A person whose heart boils with the love of God and the love of Prophet and this is reflected in their behaviour.
As a Prophetic tradition says: Hadîs-i şerif öyle diyor:
'If you had the respect and fear of God, it would be reflected in your attitude and behaviour.' "Eğer kalbinde Allah'a karşı saygı/haşyet hissi olsaydı, bu, senin tavır ve davranışlarına da aksederdi."
From the movement of one's hands, their body language, eyes, facial expressions, to their bodily movements, it would be reflected in all. El-ayak hareketlerine, ses tonuna, vurgulamalarına, gözünün irisine, yüzündeki takallüslere, kırışıklığa, tebessümlerine, oturuş-kalkışına, her şeyine aksederdi.
If one can be such a unique example, an example worth following, a place where such examples exist, we should go there. O hâli, o keyfiyeti ihraz ederek, nerede dünyaya numune olunabiliyorsa, insanlığa numune olunabiliyorsa, oraya gitmek lazım.
I was saying that once things return to normal, one should go to wherever they will be of most use and benefit.
'Here or there?' "Orada mı, öbür tarafta mı?"
To make a decision accordingly... Onu ona göre tercih etmek lazım.
But in order to work towards true peace and affinity between people of all different backgrounds, I believe it is important to try to present all across the globe. Fakat gerçekten huzur içinde, sevgiyle kucaklaşabilecek şekilde insanların birbiriyle kaynaşması/bütünleşmesi adına, zannediyorum dünyanın her yerinde bulunmak, insanlık adına çok önemli bir hizmet olacaktır.
There are thousands upon thousands of institutions across the globe.
In each of these there should be present believers, who will live as proper examples to counter the representations of ISIS, Boko Haram and others, to make people say, 'This is a different Islam'.
That is it. O kadar.
And the world really needs this. Ve dünyanın buna şiddetle ihtiyacı var.
So no matter what age we are, we need to be exposed and nurtured with our own true values. Bu açıdan burada ele aldığımız insanlar, ister orta yaşta, ister yaşlı, isterse de çocuk olsun, onlar öz değerlerimizle çok iyi beslenmeli.
Our children, those at school, need to be nurtured. Çocuklar, daha mekteplerde okuyan insanlar, hususiyle onlar, güzel beslenmeli.
Subconscious development is important for future growth and character. Eski ifadesiyle, şuuraltı müktesebatın donanımı esnasında fikrî beslenmeler, insanın gelecek adına şekillenmesi açısından çok önemli.
From the age of 0 to 7, this is when the subconscious is developed.
I feel that this development stretches to the age of 15. Fakat Fakîr, dar tecrübelerimle, 15 yaşına kadar o beslenmenin devam ettiğini zannediyorum.
So we need to nurture them with sweet tasting nourishment until they finish high school, so that once they internalise these values, with God's permission and grace, they will have the right logic, capacity and actions to become valuable and complete human beings.
We will go beyond empty displays and imitation, and become sincere people devoted to the truth, and thus suited to allure the affections. Şekilden sıyrılmış oluruz, sûretten sıyrılmış oluruz; bir yönüyle hakikatin dilbestesi, dolayısıyla da dilrubâsı oluruz.
To become tied to Him, while also becoming an individual that the public looks at in wonder.
This should be facilitated during the period of subconscious acquisition, which is in school.
May God make our friends succeed in such a service; and enable the upcoming generations to be raised in such a way.
The world is in need of repair. Dünyanın tamire ihtiyacı var.
The whole world has fallen into disarray, it is bent and broken. Çivileri sökülmüş her taraftan, kırılma üstüne kırılma yaşıyor dünya; topyekûn dünya.
The Islamic world suffers the worst. Ve en acısı da İslam dünyasında yaşanıyor.
In the Islamic world, Islam is merely represented by label. İslam dünyasında İslam'ın sadece adı kalmış.
The essence of Islam has been lost. Ne tadı var, ne tuzu var.
It has been deformed so much so that anyone who comes across the current practice of Islam dislikes it.
The beautiful image of Islam has been deformed with filth. O güzel çehre, zift püskürtülmek suretiyle çirkinleştirilmiş.
Islam is used as a means to attain worldly gains, to strengthen one's rule, and to idolise the world. Dünyaya âlet ediliyor, dünyevî saltanata âlet ediliyor, dünyayı put haline getirmeye âlet ediliyor.
The afterlife is forgotten, the love of God and the Prophet are now behind closed doors, may God protect us from it. Âhiret unutturuluyor; Allah sevgisi, Peygamber sevgisi, kapı ardı, hafizanallah.
How many people are alive with the love of God? Kaç insan Allah sevgisi ile oturup kalkıyor?
How many people love the Prophet, and have tears rolling down their eyes thinking about him? Kaç insan Peygamber sevgisi ile meşbu; aklına geldiği zaman gözleri doluyor?
How many are longing to meet their Creator or say, 'I will work tirelessly to inform them about You and to make Your Name known by others as long as I am alive?'
Indeed, it must be this way. Evet, bu.
However, most people worship the world, may God protect us from it. They idolise the world. Oysaki insanların çoğu -hafizanallah- dünyaya tapıyor; dünyayı put haline getirmişler.
Yunus Emre said: Yunus Emre diyor ki:
'Haven't I told you, haven't I told you? "Demedim mi, demedim mi?
My heart, haven't I said to you? Gönül sana söylemedim mi?
The dove of the heart would one day Gönül mürgi (güvercini) yuvasından
Fly away from its nest. Uçar bir gün demedim mi?
My dear dervish Canım derviş, gözüm derviş
Strive to attain your goal Çalış maksuduna eriş
It can't be attained with heedlessness Bu gafletle baş olmaz iş
You'd lose your chance, I told you.' Geçer fırsat demedim mi?"
Before losing our chance, before our means disappear, we need to work towards shaping humanity in a desirable way. Fırsatı kaçırmadan, imkanları fevt etmeden, elimizdeki insanları, bir heykeltıraşın yontup şekillendirdiği gibi, imrenilecek hâle getirmemiz lazım.
Only if we could have a place on earth, even if on a small scale, to be an exemplary place. Dünyada bir yer, çok küçük çapta bile olsa, mikro-planda bile olsa örnek hale gelse.
Let me use the name of my village as an example; a place like Korucuk village, small but utopic.
Where everybody is filled with the love of God, where women cry the whole day upon hearing the word 'Prophet', just like my grandmother. Yani, orada herkes Allah sevdası ile oturup-kalksa, "Peygamber" dediği zaman -Kıtmîr'in nenesi gibi- yirmi dört saat ağlayan kadınlar olsa.
My grandmother would cry for almost the whole day when she heard the name of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Yirmi dört saat ağlardı neredeyse, onun ninesi; Peygamberin adını duyunca, "Muhammed" deyince (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) ağlardı.
May God revive and resurrect our dead hearts with this. Allah ölmüş kalblerimizi bunun ile ihyâ buyursun, ölmüş kalblerimizi diriltsin.
In such a small, local space, if only there were conditions worthy of envy. O kadarcık bir yerde, gayet lokal bir yerde, imrendiren bir keyfiyet olsa.
If only people were to run to prayer exclaiming, 'Oh I might miss it.' İnsanlar namaz vaktinde "Aman kaçırırım" diye hemen koşuverseler.
If only, upon hearing the call to prayer, they ran like spurred horses to reach the first exaltation. Ezanı duydukları zaman "ilk tekbir"e yetişmek için âdetâ atlarını mahmuzluyor gibi oraya koşuverseler.
When they raise their hands to God, if only they spoke to Him with the peace of being in His presence. Ellerini Cenâb-ı Hakk'a kaldırdıkları zaman da O'nun huzurunda bulunuyor olma huzuruyla diyeceklerini deseler.
As if they had swallowed a plectrum, if only the words that fell from their lips and tongues were the sounds of their hearts.
If only a place like this existed. Bir yer, böyle olsa.
If people were careful with what is permissible and forbidden. Helale, harama dikkat edilse.
If nobody was to assault the rights of other people. Arpa kadar kimse kimsenin hukukuna tecavüz etmese.
If people did not hurt each other. Kimse kimseye bir tokat vurmasa.
If nobody was to look at another with a sour face. Kimse kimseye ekşi bir yüz ile bakmasa.
If people embraced upon seeing each other. Herkes birbiriyle karşılaştığı zaman sarmaş dolaş olsa.
As a side note: Antrparantez:
In a period when we were very few, about 10 people, when I was imam in Edirne, especially when we would have discussions on holy nights, that is what affected people who were visiting the most; I will explain an example. These friends would stand up crying and embrace one another. Çok az olduğumuz, böyle beş-on kişi olduğumuz dönemde, Kıtmîr Edirne'de imamlık yaparken, hususiyle mübarek gecelerde ders yaptığımız zaman, zannediyorum oraya dıştan gelmiş insanlar üzerinde en müessir olan şey, o idi; örneğini anlatacağım size, arkadaşlar kalkar ağlaya ağlaya birbirlerine sarılırlardı.
'Today is the day our Prophet blessed the world. "Bugün, Efendimiz'in (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) dünyaya teşrif ettiği gün.
And today is the day he migrated. Bugün de hicret ettiği gün.
Today is the day he returned victorious from Badr. Bugün Bedir'de muzaffer olarak döndüğü gün.
Today is the day he presented victory against the enemy who were eight times more in number, in the Battle of the Trench.' For the sake of utilising different days, a few words were said about these events; hearts would soften. Bugün Hendek'te o kadar insanın yedi-sekiz kat fazla düşman karşısında bir zafer sergilediği gün" değişik günler değerlendirilmek suretiyle, onlarla alakalı üç-beş tane laf edilirdi; gönüler yumuşardı.
And then they would rise for prayer, and hence be in close embrace. Ondan sonra kalkar namazı kılarlar, dolayısıyla sarmaş-dolaş olurlardı, muânaka yaparlardı.
Our Prophet did this once, maybe twice.
Considering he did it once or twice, it is permissible to do so. Bir-iki kere yaptığına göre, yapılması cevaza dayanıyor.
However is it right to do it all the time?
That kind of hug, that kind of embrace. Öyle bir sarılma, öyle bir sarmaş-dolaş olma.
If only an example like this could be displayed in the Village of Korucuk. O Korucuk Köyü'nde böyle örnek bir şey sergileniverse.
If only mosques could wail with the sounds of these cries. Camiler, ağlamalar ile, iniltiler ile inlese.
Not the people who, perhaps in a military style, repeat 'Glory be to God,' in response to the command of the caller to prayer. When they say, 'Glory be to God,' they say, 'I sanctify you as many times as the atoms in the universe.' When they say, 'Praise be to God,' they say, 'I am grateful for you as many times as the atoms in the universe.' These are people who voice their hearts as so. Müezzininin -bir yönüyle, belki militarizmden kalma- komutlarıyla "Subhânallah, Subhânallah, Subhânallah" diyen insanlar değil; doğrudan doğruya "Subhânallah" dediği zaman, "Allah'ım, Seni kâinattaki zerreler adedince takdis ediyorum."; "Elhamdülillah" dediği zaman "Kainatların zerreleri adedince Sana hamd u senada bulunuyorum" diyen, bunu vicdanının sesi olarak onu ortaya koyan insanlar.
Bediüzzaman, the one who is always victorious, the Spokesman of our Age, did the same. Hazreti Sâhip-kırân, Çağın Sözcüsü, yaparken, öyle yapıyor.
The connection between those 10 friends influenced even the most obstinate ones.
One day, we were summoned to the police station. Bir gün karakola celb etmişlerdi.
They had arrested me several times and taken me to the police station; on the 27th of May, 1960 and after many times afterwards.
Normally two officers can interrogate and ask questions; but this time the chief police walked in. Şimdi oraya götürdüklerinde, iki tane polis istintak edebilir, soru sorabilir, cevabı alabilir; fakat Emniyet Müdürü geliyor.
He said: 'Once I take you into that room, only God and I will know,' he received the following reply. 'You can take me in and throw punches and kicks. In the Hereafter, you will face the consequences.
We will see who is a coward and who is superior.' Kim alçak, kim yüksek, onu o zaman göreceksin."
Taken by surprise, he could not say a word. Bir şey diyemiyor adam, şaşırıp kalıyor.
Then an officer walked in and turned to me and said, 'I saw you at the mosque that day.' Sonra birisi geliyor, oradaki âmirlerden; "Yahu" diyor bana, "O gün, ben camide sizi seyrettim."
They do not come into the mosque, but watch the activities outside from the window.
He asked, 'What was the embracing all about and what is your current situation?' "O sarmaş-dolaş hal ne idi, senin bu şimdiki hâlin ne?" diyor.
Apparently my 'current situation' was as follows: Benim o "şimdiki hâlim" şuymuş:
Habbab ibn Arat, may God be pleased with him, says: Habbâb İbn Erett (radıyallahu anh) Efendimiz'e gelip diyor ki:
'O Messenger of God! "Ya Rasûlallah.
When will these trials come to an end?' Bu belâ, bu musibet ne zaman bitecek?"
Our noble Prophet answers: Efendimiz de (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) Sıhâh'ta geçen bir hadis-i şerife göre, buyuruyor ki:
'The people that came before you had their meat separated from the bones. "Sizden evvelki insanların etleri, kemikleri birbirinden ayrılırdı.
They would be cut on a block. Onları kütükte doğruyor gibi doğrarlardı.
And thrown into deep rivers. Onları derin derelere atarlardı.
But they would never leave their faith.' Fakat onlar, yine dinlerinden dönmezlerdi."
At another time when we had troubles, I sent this saying of the Prophet as message to celebrate Eid.
But a pragmatic, clever, patriotic typographer sent the message to the authorities.
So this became the reason why I was summoned. Dolayısıyla benim oraya celb edilmeme vesile oluyor bu.
This was what the guy was asking about; it was our Prophets blessed statement. Şimdi adamın "Bu neydi?" dediği mesele oymuş; Efendimiz'in mübarek beyanı imiş, o.
However, it was an effort to express that what we were experiencing was little, insignificant, and not even considered a tenth of what the Companions had to stand upright against. Oysaki esasen insanların olup-biten şeyler karşısında sarsılmadan, dik durmaları adına sahabenin çektiği şeylere göre bizim çektiğimiz şeylerin çok az/önemsiz olduğunu, onlarınkinin onda biri bile sayılamayacağını ifade etme adına bir gayret idi o.
He may object to the Prophet's saying but was expressed admiration and wonder at the scene in the mosque: Adam ona itiraz ediyor ama bir hususa hayranlık duyduğunu da ifade ediyor:
'What were you doing in the mosque?' he says, 'What was that kindness, courtesy, grace and affinity?'; even though he disagrees with certain aspects, he does not abstain from expressing his approval and appreciation of other aspects. "O camideki durum neydi?" diyor, "O incelik, o nezâket, o sarmaş-dolaş olma, o kaynaşma neydi; bu hal nedir?" falan diyor; yani, onu ters görüyor fakat öbürünü takdirden de dûr olmuyor.
Okay, lets return to our original discussion. Evet, geriye dönüyorum, parantezi kapadık.
Even if it was a small town, imagine an ideal society existed.
Something similar to Campanella's The City of the Sun. Even if it is the size of a small town, people all over the world will form clusters in order to establish analogous systems saying, 'We should also form similar structures to these.'
The person who wrote The City of the Sun said the following after becoming aware of the Ottoman Empire: O "Güneş Devleti"ni yazan insan, Osmanlı'ya muttali olunca diyor ki:
'I have been keeping myself busy in vain. "Ben, beyhude meşgul olmuşum.
People have already established such a world.' Bir yerde adamlar o dünyayı kurmuşlar."
They were Suleyman the Magnificent, Selim the Resolute, may Paradise be his abode, Selim the Blond and people alike. Yani, Kanûnî'ler, Yavuz Cennet-mekân'lar, bir ölçüde Sarı Selim'ler.
Was Selim the Blond like that? Sarı Selim, tam öyle miydi?
He was the one who built the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, who conquered Cyprus, so he was one of the lower ones.
To shape the world while on horseback. Atın-katırın sırtında, dünya hakimiyeti tesis etme.
Becoming a balancing factor in the balance of power in the international arena. Devletler muvazenesinde muvazene unsuru olma.
Acting as a magical key in resolving problems.
After hearing that they lived in such an era he says, 'I have written the City of Sun for no reason.' In a way he blames himself for having wasted time. Böyle bir dönemi yaşadıklarını duyunca, "Ben, beyhude bir Güneş Devleti yazmışım" diyor, bir yönüyle kendisini suçluyor, israf-ı zaman ettiği üzerinde duruyor.
It was such a utopian society. Böyle ütopik bir toplum ve yapı esasen.
The people we deal with in this context can be children, adolescents, middle ages or elderly.
If we utilise our time for that purpose and allow people to benefit from our values, a day will come when the whole world will look upon us with admiration, with God's permission and grace.
In fact after seeing droplets or small bodies of water of this they already say: Zaten daha şimdiden bunun reşhalarını, damlacıklarını, şebnemlerini görünce -Biliyorsunuz yapraklara düşen şeylere "şebnem" denir.- diyorlar ki:
'Truly, amongst the revolting and disturbing events that are occurring all over the world, this movement is quite promising.' "Hakikaten bugün dünyanın değişik yerlerindeki tiksindiriciliğe karşı Hareket ve Cemaat ümit vaad ediyor."
What have we shown them for them to think in that way? Ne gösterdik ki öyle diyorlar?
It is quite obvious. Gösterilen şey, bellidir.
Which parts of the world have you been to? Siz, dünyanın nerelerine gittiniz?
There are thousands of universities and prisons here, and many chaplains that visit these prisons as well as hospitals.
How many people do you have who visit different government institutions? Değişik devlet kurumlarına giden kaç tane insanınız var?
Despite this, they express their admiration for the people they see. Fakat buna rağmen, gördükleri insanlar imrendirici olduğundan dolayı, hayranlıklarını ifade ediyorlar.
There have been around a hundred people who came here. Buraya gelen belki yüz tane insan oldu.
I said a hundred but maybe a lot more. I am quite astonished that not a single of them left unpleased. "Yüz" dedim, az oldu değil mi, belki çok daha fazla oldu ama giderken -Hayret ediyorum ben.- hiçbiri gayr-ı memnun olarak gitmedi.
Therefore, if there was another person in my place who was more sensible and able to express matters more clearly, those people would not have been able to leave but instead would collapse at the door. Demek ki benim yerimde aklı başında bir adam olsaydı, meseleleri doğru anlatan birisi olsaydı, o adamlar çıkarken çıkamayacaklardı, bayılıp eşiklere yığılacaklardı.
Even after visiting such a narrow minded person like myself who cannot analyse matters to a satisfactory level, they say, 'Surely, we have learnt a lot.' Bu kadar dar anlayışlı, dar görüşlü, dar düşünceli, meseleleri ciddî analiz edemeyen bir insanın yanına gelip-giderken bile, "Vallahi biz dersimizi aldık" diyorlar.
Amazing... Hayret.
People who take lessons from these simple things would surely benefit a lot if the right environment was provided.
If Islam was to be portrayed accurately with all of its values, as books are displayed at a book fair, people would stop conflicting with each other, put cannibalism to the side and enjoy solidarity and tolerance, with God's permission and grace.
The feelings of pity and compassion are very important. "Acıma hissi" ve "şefkat duygusu" çok önemlidir.
Bediüzzaman, the Owner of Time (who is beyond the timely restrictions), the Spokesman of our Age, lists helplessness, poverty, enthusiasm, and gratitude and then links them to contemplation before finally crowning it with compassion.
If you think about it, contemplate on these issues using logic, you will see that the depth of one's faith is directly proportional to their level of compassion. Düşünürseniz, aklınızı kullanırsanız, insanca mantığınız ile meseleyi ele alırsanız, görürsünüz ki, insanın imanının derinliğinin nispeti, şefkati ile mebsûten mütenasip (doğru orantılı) demektir.
The degree of one's faith is relative to their level of compassion.
Just like the Pride of Humanity... İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu gibi.
This is expressed there as well (in an article published in the Çağlayan magazine): Bu mesele ifade edilirken, orada da (Çağlayan Dergisi için yazılan "Acıyorum" başlıklı makalede de) esasen bu ifade ediliyor:
The Pride of Humanity was blessed with the Ascension, which was not granted to anyone else. İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu, hiçbir kimseye müyesser olmayan Miraç'a çıkıyor.
We cannot comprehend such depths. Aklımız ermez o derinliğe.
The Honourable Sage Bediüzzaman calls it, 'light emitting body'. Hazreti Üstad, "Vücûd-i Necm-i Nurânî" diyor.
He, peace and blessings be upon him, ascended as a different entity.
It was not a 'dream' as some people call it. Birilerinin dediği gibi "rüya" değil.
Even an accomplished and insightful scholar has made the mistake of calling this a 'dream'.
It was not a dream; it was his light emitting body that was raised up. "Rüya" değil esasen, "Vücûd-i Necm-i Nûrânî"si ile yükseldi.
Our noble Prophet passed by the levels of all the great Messengers. Efendimiz, bütün enbiyâ-i ızâmın bulunduğu göklere uğruyor.
He met with Jesus, he met with Moses and at the peak, and he met with Abraham. Hazreti İsa ile görüşüyor, Hazreti Musa ile görüşüyor; zirvede Hazreti İbrahim (aleyhisselam) ile görüşüyor.
He was honoured to witness the Beauty and Perfectness of Almighty God and Paradise is honoured His steps and presence.
He graces Paradise, He returns to Earth after being graced by witnessing the Beauty and Perfection of Almighty God.
This is such a great bounty, I would like to evaluate this issue with the well-known phrase of the Honourable Sage Bediüzzaman: Öyle bir nimet ki, yine Hazreti Pîr'in bu mevzudaki -sizin de çok iyi bildiğiniz- bir sözü ile meseleyi değerlendirmek istiyorum:
'Thousands of years of blissful life in this world.' "Dünyanın binlerce mesûdâne hayatı."
Imagine one million years instead of thousands of years, one million years in this world will not be equivalent to one minute or one hour in Paradise.
Imagine you live one million years of a life similar to people who have private cars, dark palaces, with their life insured by important people where they can eat and drink whatever they like and spend a whole life resting on their sides. Bir milyon sene yaşasanız ve birilerinin zırhlı arabalarda, kapkara saraylarda, hayatlarını bilmem kimlerin garantisi altında, arzu ettikleri her şeyi yiyerek, yiyip içip kulakları üzerine yan gelip yatarak yaşadıkları gibi ömür sürseniz.
This kind of earthly happiness, carnal happiness, superficial happiness. Böyle dünyevî bir mutluluk, hayvanî bir mutluluk, sûrî bir mutluluk.
A life in Paradise where one minute or one hour is incomparable to thousands of years or millions of years in such pleasure. Böyle bir mutluluk içinde geçen binlerce sene, milyonlarca sene bir saatine, bir dakikasına mukabil gelmeyen Cennet hayatı.
And witnessing the Beauty and Perfection of Almighty God will be incomparable to thousands of years in Paradise. Cennet hayatının da binlerce senesi, bir dakika Rü'yet-i Cemâline mukabil gelmeyen Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın cemâl-i bâ-kemâlini müşahede.
It was one of the most difficult periods for the Pride of Humanity.
They were left in a state of boycott in the valley outside of Mecca. Şi'b-i Ebî Tâlip'te boykot yaşıyor, üç sene.
Perhaps, they were not even allowed to build tents, God knows where they took refuge.
Otherwise, if they had no shelter, the sun would have burnt their brains and rendered people crazy with its heat. Yoksa güneş, beyinlerine vurduğu zaman, beyin kaynar, delirir insan orada.
The Pride of Humanity spends three full years at boycott together with his relatives. Tam üç sene orada İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu, Beni Hâşim ile beraber.
Even his uncle Abu Talib who was still an unbeliever was amongst them and our sacred mother, may my soul be sacrificed for her, the Honourable Khadija was there. Henüz inanmamış amcası Ebu Tâlib de onların içinde; analar anası, mübarek anamız -Canım kurban olsun.- Hazreti Hadîce de orada.
She was older than our noble Prophet. Yaşça Efendimiz'den evvel dünyaya gelmiş.
I am not using the word big or great as there is no human being bigger or greater than Him. "Büyük" tabirini be-tahsis kullanmıyorum; çünkü insanlar arasında O'ndan daha büyüğü yoktur.
However, she was older than our noble Prophet in terms of age and she was such a blessed mother.
She proposes marriage herself. Evliliği kendisi teklif ediyor.
Whilst our noble Prophet is engaged in her commercial work they have an opportunity to meet. Efendimiz, onun ticarî işlerini görürken, tanışma imkânı bulunuyor.
That majestic beauty, peace and blessings be upon him, who also displays unmatched inner beauty, catches her attention too. She chooses him.
With others' involvement, he accepts her proposal.
Our blessed mother is there too, those three years. O mübarek validemiz de orada, o üç sene.
Until that point, there have not been too many verses of the Qur'an revealed, the religion has not been completed, and not everything to be said has been said. But for them, what was said sufficed. Daha Kur'an-ı Kerim'den çok fazla ayet nâzil olmamış, din tamamlanmamış; denecek şeylerin hepsi denmemiş ama denenleri yeterli bulmuşlar; orada O'nunla beraber.
Under the heat of the sun, on the sand, sometimes without food. Güneşin altında, kumun üstünde, yiyecek şey ya buluyorlar, ya bulamıyorlar.
They suffer under such conditions. Öyle bir ızdırap içinde kıvranıp duruyorlar.
But in the biography of the Prophet, the history of campaigns or in any books of narration, I did not come across a sentence or two of complaint from the noble Prophet regarding that suffering.
Historians specialising on the Prophet say so. Onu, o Siyer'e muttali olan insanlar anlatıyorlar.
Neither from him, or from anyone else of the Hashimites.
But that experience really took its toll on them. Fakat orada çok yıpranma oluyor.
Therefore, when the boycott years ended, Dolayısıyla o boykot sona erdirilince.
Three faithful individuals, not yet believers but faithful and loyal people, Üç tane vefalı insan, henüz Müslüman olmamışlar ama üç vefalı insan.
If God asks me in the afterlife if I have a wish, there are a few things I plan to say. Cenâb-ı Hak bana öbür tarafta "Bir isteğin var mı?" dediği zaman, diyeceğim bazı şeyler var.
I plan to say, 'My God, those three individuals, I beg you to forgive them'. "Ya Rabbî o üç tane insanı bağışla, bahtına düştüm" de diyeceğim.
And like Abu Bakr, I also plan to say, 'Forgive Abu Talib, uncle of the Prophet, I beg you'.
Because they did so much good to my noble Prophet. Çünkü benim Efendim'e yapılacak iyi şeylerin kat katını, kat katını yapıyorlar.
But those difficulties took their toll on them, and even when the boycott years ended, the noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, experienced two shocking events at once.
Our mother Khadija flies to the horizon of her spirit. She supported him from the beginning, provided her protection, assistance, endorsement in every way. Our blessed mother, mother of mothers passes away. Hadîce validemiz, ruhunun ufkuna uçuyor, kanatlanıp gidiyor; tâ başından o güne kadar O'na kucak açmış, himaye etmiş, destek olmuş, her şeyi ile O'nu tasdik etmiş mübarek anamız, analar anası vefat ediyor.
And soon after, Abu Talib also passes away. Ebu Tâlib de arkadan vefat ediyor.
Sorrow after sorrow. Üzüntü üzüntü üzerine.
He opposed the obstinate climate of Mecca. Mekke'deki temerrüt gemi azıya almış.
At present, tortures many times worse than what was done to them, are being done to both men and women in prisons as you mentioned earlier. Günümüzde o zindanlardaki insanlara yapılanların kat katı, biraz önce dediğiniz gibi, kadın-erkek denmeden çilenin kat katı irtikâp ediliyor.
At the end of the day he is human; that is the moment of shock. İnsan nihayet; hadisenin şokunun yaşandığı ân.
He is human too. O da insan.
I often repeat Izzet Molla's words: İzzet Molla'nın sözünü çok tekrar ediyorum:
'I will not tire of torment, my dear, "Ben usanmam -gözümün nuru- cefâdan ama
But at a point we can't take it anymore, for the body is human!' Ne de olmasa cefadan usanır, candır bu."
You get kicked and punched. Tekme yiyorsun, çifte yiyorsun, yumruk yiyorsun.
At a time when the Pride of Humanity was battered and exhausted, He is honoured with the greatest of honours.
God Almighty says to the Prophet, 'You have suffered so much on earth. Cenâb-ı Hak diyor ki İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu'na, "Sen, yeryüzünde bunca şeye maruz kaldın.
I now want to take you to my presence and lift the veil. Ben şimdi Seni huzuruma almak ve nikâbı kaldırmak istiyorum.
I am inviting you to my presence to become manifest to you in the mirror of your heart. Senin kalb aynanda Sana tecelli etmek için Seni huzuruma çağırıyorum, misafir ediyorum; mihmandârın oluyorum."
I said Paradise, and then I tried to say the Divine Beauty. Cennet'i dedim; sonra Cemâlullah'ı da demeye çalıştım.
For one year in Paradise cannot be compared to even one minute in the presence of God. Cennet'in binlerce sene mesûdâne hayatı, bir dakika Rü'yet-i cemâline mukabil gelmeyen.
The Pride of Humanity attains all of these. İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu bütün bunları ihraz ediyor.
But on the other side, behind him there is still hardship, agony, and pain.
There are those reaching for his throat, trying to kill him. Boynunu sıkan, öldürmeye teşebbüs eden insanlar var.
There are those throwing animal guts over him. İşkembeyi, sırtına koyan insanlar var.
There are those blockading his path of travel. Geçtiği yollarda önünü kesen insanlar var.
There are those stretching the Respected Companions' bodies apart, like on the crucifix.
There are those stacking boulders upon the bodies of Bilal, Sumayya, Yasir, Ammar, and others. Bilal-i Habeşîleri, Sümeyye'leri, Yâsir'leri, Ammâr'ları kumun üstüne yatıran, kayaları onların üzerine koyan insanlar var.
The world is hell for Him. Dünya, O'nun için Cehennem.
Yet he says, 'Let it be.' Fakat "Olsun" diyor.
He returns to that hell-like life in order to show others the things He has seen, to let them hear all that he has heard, to let them taste the things he had tasted, he returns to the people. O gördüğü şeyleri gördürmek, duyduğu şeyleri duyurmak, tattığı şeyleri tattırmak için Miraç'tan ayrılıyor, geliyor insanlığın içine; o Cehennem-zebûn hayatın içine geliyor.
A saintly person says: Bir Hak dostu diyor ki:
'He achieved such heights that if I had reached that level, I swear by the Name of God! I swear by the Name of God! I swear by the Name of God that would not have returned.' "O, öyle pâyeleri ihraz etti ki, Allah'a yemin ederim, ben o noktaya ulaşsaydım, vallâhi, billâhi, tallâhi geriye dönmezdim."
Why does God's Messenger return to a life of torment? Allah Rasûlü, çile yurduna neden dönüyor?
He returns with a powerful feeling of compassion for countless people caught in a wave headed viciously towards Hell. Akın akın Cehennem seline kapılmış, o akıntıya kapılmış, Cehennem'e dökülen insanlar dökülmesin diye, ciddî bir şefkat hissi ile dünyaya dönüyor.
This is where compassion comes from. "Şefkat" dediniz; bakın, şefkat oradan geliyor.
With that feeling of commiseration he returns saying, 'I cannot stand the suffering of people.' Acıyor; acıma hissi ile "Ben, o yanmaya dayanamam" diyor, "İnsanların yanmasına dayanamam" diyor.
He says, 'I cannot stand the burning of the Meccans. "Mekkelinin yanmasına dayanamam.
These are all the grandchildren of Prophet Ismail, yet with time some started to say, 'Al-Lat', others said, 'Al-Manat', 'Al-Uzza', 'Al-Isaf', 'Al-Naila', while others began to worship rocks and soil. Bunların hepsi Hazreti İsmail'in torunları ama bir zaman gelmiş, bunlardan kimisi 'Lât' demiş, 'Menât' demiş, 'Uzzâ' demiş, 'İsâf' demiş, 'Nâile' demiş; bir kısım taşa-toprağa tapmaya başlamışlar.
This is not a good path to take, I cannot stand it' Bu gidiş iyi bir gidiş değil, Ben buna dayanamam" diyor.
As I mentioned earlier... Hani biraz evvel Kıtmîr.
Who are you to want Abu Talib? Sen kimsin ki, Ebu Tâlib'i istiyorsun.
In the name of saving our noble Prophet from the boycott in Mecca and those three people. O üç tane insanı, Mekke'deki o fermanı yırtan insanları, Efendimiz'in o boykottan kurtulması adına.
I wish to request my wish to Almighty God but I do not know if a sinner like me will be given the chance to speak on that Day, I cannot say anything about that.
But that mercy, the feeling of compassion was a means for the noble Prophet to return back from the Ascension. Ama o şefkat, o acıma duygusu, O'nun Miraç'tan dönmesine vesile oluyor.
The 'Halo' following him was also compassionate. Kendinden sonradaki "Hâle" de öyle şefkatli.
We say, 'Halo'; we refer to the light surrounding the moon a 'Halo'. "Hâle" diyoruz; ayın etrafındaki o ışık çemberine "hâle" deniyor.
In one of his poems, Nabi says: Nâbî bir şiirinde şöyle der:
'The one you see is not a preacher on the pulpit, "Değildir hâle çıkmış cami içre kürsi-i vâzâ
The group will interpret the light verse like the moon.' Gürûh-u encüme Nûr ayetin tefsir eder mehtap."
He is the Luminous Moon, the Moonlight; those around him are essentially stars. O, "Kamer-i Münîr", Mehtap; etrafındakiler de esasen yıldızlar.
Explaining the verses of Light to an army of stars. Yıldızlara Nur ayetini tefsir ediyor.
He states this for a preacher; I find the words of Nabi an exaggeration for a preacher.
He did not determine his addressee; that addressee is the Pride of Humanity. Muhatabı belirleyememiş; o muhatap, İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu.
'The one you see is not a preacher on the pulpit, "Değildir hâle çıkmış cami içre kürsi-i vâzâ
The group will interpret the verse of Light like the moon.' Gürûh-u encüme Nûr ayetin tefsir eder mehtap."
Those in the Halo share the same spiritual makeup; the feeling of 'pity'. O Hâle'dekiler de aynı ruh hâletini paylaşıyorlar; "Acıyorum" duygusunu, "Acıyorum!"
Let me mention something else here as an aside. Burada yine antrparantez bir şey arz edeceğim:
During the time of Messengership, the number of Muslims who died in battle was around 170 odd. Devr-i Risâletpenâhi'de onca savaş içinde Müslümanlardan ölen insanların sayısı yüz yetmiş küsurdur.
Now those who call themselves 'Muslim' and because of their 'deep, sincere and profound efforts' there are much more than 170 of those who had to flee their motherland forcibly whilst crossing the Evros river. Şimdi "Müslümanım" diyen insanların o Müslümanca, samimi (!), derin (!), engin gayretleri (!) sayesinde ülkesini terk edip kaçan insanlardan Meriç'te ahirete yürüyenler yüz yetmiş küsuru çoktan geçti.
Yes they came to Turkey through deception; when they could not find it satisfying, they said, 'We're off to Greece' and 'Let's pass through the Evros river'; the Syrian believers also drowned in those waters. Evet, bir kandırma ile Türkiye'ye geldiler; tatmin edici bulmadıklarından dolayı, "Biz de Yunanistan'a" dediler, onlar da "Meriç'i geçelim" dediler; Suriyeli mü'minler de orada sulara karıştı.
God knows their number. Sayılarını Allah bilir.
And people got mixed up with one another in Syria; with wrong diplomacy, wrong policies, the country spun into chaos.
But there was the path to democracy. Oysa demokrasiye gitme yolu vardı.
The prescription for non-homogenous societies is democracy. Gayr-ı mütecânis toplumlarda reçete, demokrasidir.
Everyone should be able to believe in what they do until death. Herkes kendi inandığına ölesiye inanmalı.
Let them be. Bırak.
One may believe in Marx. Birisi Karl Marks'a inanır.
Another in Engels. Birisi Engels'e inanır.
And another in God's Messenger. Birisi Efendimiz'e inanır.
One might believe Abu Hanifa. Birisi Ebu Hanife'ye inanır.
The other might follow the Shafi school. Birisi Şafiî'ye inanır.
One may believe in the Honourable Ali ibn Abi Talib, they may say, 'I believe', and also tie this belief to Alevism, or being a Shia. Birisi Hazreti Ali'ye inanır, "İnandım" der ve "İnandım"ı aynı zamanda Aleviliğe bağlar, Şiîliğe bağlar.
We refer to such populations as 'divided' societies.
Thus, I believe that we must always be respectful towards the interpretations, emotions, thoughts, philosophy of life, and world view. Bence onun için herkesin anlayışına, duygusuna, düşüncesine, hayat felsefesine, dünya görüşüne saygılı olmak lazım.
This is the only way that we can keep society strong. Toplumu ancak böyle ayakta tutabilirsiniz.
If you behave in accordance with thoughts such as 'Everyone must think like me. Whoever doesn't think like me deserves to be buried alive!'. "Herkes benim gibi düşünmeli, benim gibi düşünmeyenler yerin dibine batsın" mülahazasıyla hareket ederseniz, tam o "acıma hissi"ne ters bir şey olur.
As mentioned earlier, if you run around with grudges, feelings of hatred, animosity, and revenge. Başta geçtiği gibi, esasen kin, nefret, garaz, intikam hissi.
If you catch the 'Everyone else must die, only I should stay!' disease. "Herkes ölmeli, sadece ben kalmalıyım" marazı.
If you have the paranoia of 'They will harm me, they will take my villas and fleet!' Hatta "Bana zarar verecek, villalarımı elimden alacak, filolarımı elimden alacak." paranoyası.
The thoughts of 'They will take it off my hands.' "Elimden alacak" mülahazası.
'Even though there is only one in a hundred, or even one in a thousand chance that they will take it from me, "Yüzde bir ihtimal, binde bir ihtimal elimden alacaklar.
I must eliminate even this possibility. Bunları bile ben yok etmeliyim.
I must barricade all doors to prevent this.' Bu türlü ihtimallere bile kapıları kapamalıyım" filan.
In a time when compassion and empathy are so rare to come across, that feeling of commiseration is very important.
They had commiserated, we are required to commiserate. Acıyorlardı, acımışlardı, acıma mecburiyetindeyiz.
If we are on the path of the great Messengers, the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and the great Prophets, commiseration must be part of our nature.
We must embrace it so much so that we are unable to even step on an ant.
We must feel for the ant, we must be delicate enough to show compassion to a bee, we must embrace empathy and commiseration.
With these thoughts it is said, 'I feel your pain! I feel your pain! I feel your pain!' (In the editorial article from Çağlayan magazine).
They continue with the following poetic idiom: Ondan sonra da şu mazmunla devam ediliyor:
'The heart is always in search for a loyal lover "İnsan, her zaman arar-durur bir yâr-ı sâdık
Yet sometimes the one they call 'loyal' is revealed as a hypocrite.' Bazen de 'Sâdık' dedikleri, çıkar münafık."
They shout 'Truth!' and 'Justice!', yet they tread and dance comfortably over the rights of others and justice. "Hak" derler, "Adalet" derler, hakkı ayaklarının altına alırlar, adalet üzerinde de raks ederler.
Yet you may look at their words and believe them. Ama sen, o sözlerine bakarak inanırsın.
They said, 'Rights!', 'Justice!', 'Islam!', 'Prophet Muhammad!' and you believed in them. "Hak" dediler, "Adalet" dediler, "Müslümanlık" dediler, "Hazreti Muhammed" dediler, "İslamiyet" dediler; sen de inandın.
You preferred these people over their opposition, thinking they are the lesser of the two evils. Hususiyle, karşısında bunun tersini söyleyen insanlara mukabil, "ehvenü'ş-şerreyn" diye tercih ettin.
This is a discipline of the civil code of the Ottoman Empire; preferring the lighter, less evil of two evil choices. "Ehvenü'ş-şerreyn" deniyor, Mecelle'de de bir disiplindir; iki şer söz konusu olduğu zaman, bu şerlerin ehveni, en hafif olanı tercih edilir.
You did every evil possible in the name of good. Yapmadık şey bırakmadınız iyilik adına.
And they begged you, they came up to your doorsteps; they pleaded you about that matter.
But then again, they did what they did; they took lives of a world of people.
'I pity myself, as well, because I couldn't see this. "Bunu göremediğimden dolayı, kendime de acıyorum.
I pity myself because I saw the hypocrites as the true believers. Münafığı, mü'min-i hakiki gördüğümden dolayı kendime acıyorum.
I pity myself because I couldn't wisely foresee what they were going to do.
"I am at a loss" I say to myself. 'Yuf olsun bana' diyorum.
I pity myself because I couldn't read them right. Onları doğru okuyamadığımdan dolayı kendime acıyorum.
I pity myself because I couldn't anticipate they would cause such miserable things in the first place. Bunca acınacak şeylere sebebiyet vereceklerini baştan sezemediğimden dolayı kendime acıyorum.
I should be pitied.' Acınacak durumdayım."
There is this context, too, in that article; 'I feel pity!' Bu muhteva da var o yazıda; "Acıyorum!"
The pages that have written those lines have been lined with tears, some have been ripped up, and others have been shredded, from time immemorial.
You have stated your feelings with those thoughts and emotions. O mülahazalar ile, o hisler ile hissiyatınızı ifade etmişsiniz.
Of course, by my own narrowness of vision. Tabii kendi dar ufkum itibarıyla.
You may have said deeper things if you were to approach such a matter; you may have said alerting, warning words, maybe even things that would give life to the dead in their tombs. Siz -belki- böyle bir meseleyi ele alsaydınız, çok daha derince şeyler söyleyebilirdiniz; uyarıcı, tenbih edici şeyler söyleyebilirdiniz, hatta mezardakileri ayağa kaldıracak şeyler söyleyebilirdiniz.
May God Almighty bless you with that sentiment, too.
I've occupied so much of your time, forgive me, and may God forgive us as well.
This will suffice you. Vesselam.
