What prevents Hizmet from turning into a fundamentalist or regressive sectarian organization and from breaking up into conflictual factions?
The Gülen Movement stays well clear of ritual or sacral affirmation of any ideological principles or leading personalities. This prevents the radicalization of the image of the action beyond its factual meaning and contents. The project-networks or SMOs of the Movement are not contentious subgroups. They are not unresponsive to important needs in the wider social or political arena, inside or outside Turkey. Besides, there are no networks or SMOs that have broken off away from the Movement after deviating, nor are there any opportunist leaders. There is no likelihood of such an eventuality. All these characteristics prevent Hizmet from turning into a fundamentalist or regressive sectarian organization and from breaking up into conflictual factions.
Instead, individuals in Hizmet mobilize themselves into an action or movement that is non-conflictual and peaceful. Through the Movement, individuals attend constructively to the branches and roots of the crises afflicting their society and humanity.
