Stop Looking Under the Clouds and Start Looking at People's Hearts
The Gülen Movement is a nongovernmental movement that is based on the principle of volunteering. It is a movement that targets people's consciences and fosters key values such as love, compassion, kindness, tolerance, sharing, empathy and modesty.
With its sincere efforts in education and dialogue, this movement has received immense support from within our country and from all over the world. Personally I like to say it was "tested and approved." But why is it that this movement, which has not received the slightest opposition in any other part of the world, is the target of certain groups in our country? While the entire globe has realized that this movement is a project for humanity and encourages peace, harmony and brotherhood in a world where fights and conflict dominate, some people in Turkey are hostile towards it. They try to persuade the public conscience to condemn it with cruel provocations, lies, conspiracy theories and defamation campaigns. They relentlessly try to hamper this humane movement that has great goals. But why? Because they belong with the hopeless opposition. Mr. Gülen once said: "If there was a ladder reaching the sky and they heard this ladder leads to Heaven, they would rush towards it, but if they saw that we were holding that ladder, they would not climb up it. They would turn their backs and walk away."
One group of people are just ignorant, they don't know anything about the movement other than a few rumors.
Another group of people realize the movement is well-intended, honest and fair, but are not interested because they are unfamiliar with it or are held back by their doubts.
Another group accepts the validity of the movement, yet can not release themselves from the interests of their ego. They seek political support from the movement. But when refused such support, they take a stance with the opposition.
Why does the opposition front have such hatred, animosity and ill-temper towards the movement? The answer to this question extends to at least three centuries of hostility and animosity towards Islam.
In our rapidly globalizing world this opposition does not want our people to use their own will to make decisions and take a stance. They are disturbed that we can revive ourselves and hold tightly on to our roots. To date this front has been the most disturbed by democratization because they believe allowing the public to employ free will is like handing them a free ticket to return to their personal values. Every time in the past they have given the people this ticket, it has prompted a resurgence of national and religious values, making them feel the need to intervene. The worst part is that they have made the military stand before the public. Their excuses were based on dark pictures such as backwardness, reactionaryism and the desire for a religious state, none of which have ever been truly experienced in Turkey.
They managed to dissolve the Democrat Party on those claims. The same claims served as a basis to suppress the nationalists. Now their target is the innocent people of this self-sacrificing movement. Nowadays their most common phrase is "They're under every cloud." It's funny how they themselves are never under any cloud.
You quietly place evidence at the crime scene and then stir a commotion by pointing the figure at the movement. But if you want to support then you need to stop looking under the cloud and start looking in people's conscience. This time around the nation will stand up for their children, the law and democracy.
