Interview with a foreign journalist
On June 20, when the Gezi Park protests were still in motion, an Armenian journalist named Daria Aslamova came to my office.
When a close friend of mine told me about Aslamova, a correspondent for the Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda who wanted to interview me about the Gezi Park protests, I could not refuse. During our interview, she asked a few questions about the protests and then suddenly changed the subject, questioning me on Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen. I could not understand her motivation, and I said Fethullah Gülen is a well respected religious scholar and thinker. When she asked about the Hizmet movement, I told her about the educational activities of its supporters. Aslamova did not seem satisfied with my answers, but I understood her angle when she asked whether Fethullah Gülen was behind the harsh intervention against the Gezi Park protesters, which is what she wanted to hear.
