Academics Discuss Gülen MovementAcademics from around the world have gathered to discuss the Gülen Movement in Germany. The University of Potsdam's Institute of Religion and the Forum for Intercultural Dialogue Berlin are organizing an international conference on "Muslims between Tradition and Modernity, The Gülen Movement as a Bridge between Cultures. Academics from 8 different countries are attending the two day international conference.

Officials from the ministry, scientists, journalists, businessmen, and students were all part of the first day of the conference.

The main theme of the discussion was the fact that people regardless of nationality, religion and race can get together and contribute to world peace.

Prof. Leonid R. Sykiainen: "Fethullah Gülen does not emphasize our differences but stress on our common points. Some people do not want to see what is behind the thoughts of Fethullah Gülen in terms of cultural aspects. Islam is not only a religion. But also it is a culture and a way of living."

Dr.Bekir Agai: "The works of Gülen Movement in Germany cannot be explained by classical immigrant case. 150 educational institutions established in Germany and 11 private schools are initiated by people who have university education."

The first panel of the conference will discuss whether the Gülen movement can offer a solution for the problem of European Muslim integration.

Participants at the conference will also discuss whether dialog can help overcome the clash of civilizations.
