"Aydinlik Worked to Cast Shadow on Susurluk Investigation"
The neo-nationalist journal Aydinlik prepared and published news stories that would cause the public to lose faith in an investigation into the Susurluk scandal, a car crash which revealed ties between gangs and the police force, according to a former member of the Ergenekon terrorist organization.
Tuncay Güney, an informant and a former member of the Ergenekon gang, claimed in a program broadcast live on TRT 2 that Doğu Perinçek, the jailed leader of the Workers' Party (İP) and one of the founders of the Aydinlik journal, had a meeting with his team, which included İP deputy leader Ferit İlsever, on the Susurluk investigation shortly after the scandal began and decided to publish stories that would cause doubts about the investigation.
"I was among the listeners of their conversation. Perinçek's task was to cast a shadow on the Susurluk investigation," stated Güney.
Güney has profound knowledge of the workings of Ergenekon as well as information about the details of a number of assassinations and attacks in Turkey that have remained in the dark until now.
Güney also claimed that Perinçek and his team had provided Russian and Chinese intelligence agencies with false information about the Gülen movement, led by internationally renowned Turkish intellectual Fethullah Gülen.
"Perinçek told Russian intelligence agencies that the Gülen movement was using schools built in Russia by the movement as centers for drug trafficking, which led to serious problems between Turkey and Russia. Similarly, he claimed these schools were used to store weapons to be sent to Chechen forces. Because of false intelligence given to Russia and China by Perinçek and his men, thousands of people were subjected to torture. Much later, all this information proved to be wrong. Commercial relations between Turkey, Russia and China received a serious blow because of this false intelligence," Güney stated.
