British Weekly Highight's Abant Platform
British weekly the Economist wrote in its article "Turkiye and Iraq's Kurds are getting on a lot better than usual" referring to the Abant Platform held in northern Iraq's Irbil this time.
The weekly featured the Abant Platform held in Irbil in its latest issue. In it, the economist underlined that Turks and Kurds are getting a lot better than usual claimed that the speech by Turkish envoy, Huseyin Avni Botsali, was a measure of Turkiye's positive attitude toward the Kurds.
The Economist which wrote Turkiye's relations with northern Iraq being formalized noted that Turkiye could open a consulate in Irbil.
The Economist also noted that the chamber of commerce of the southern Turkish province of Diyarbakir reckons there are about 50,000 Turkish citizens and 1,200 Turkish companies based in Iraqi Kurdistan, doing trade worth some $7 billion a year.
It is stated in the article that friendship with Turkiye would enable Iraq's Kurds to export their oil and gas and to check Iran's influence in the region.
The weekly further commented that the relationship might even give the Iraqi Kurds a security umbrella once America leaves.
