DA Platform Focuses on Media's Role in Dialogue
The 7th Dialogue Eurasia Platform (DAP) starts Friday at the Antalya Rixos Hotel. Sixty members from 12 countries will come together to discuss "the role of the media in Eurasia dialogue".
DAP was launched in 1998 to establish dialogue among Eurasian countries.
Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Atilla Koc and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sultan Rayev will join the sessions, as well as top bureaucrats, diplomats, intellectuals and press members from DAP member countries.
DA Platform Secretary Erkam Tufan Aytav, briefing the press on the meeting, said, "The aim of our platform is to contribute the Eurasian people's establishment of dialogue, understanding of each other and global peace. A dialogue problem remains from the Cold War Era. We will handle issues like; 'how can we eliminate prejudices, what can we do within a concrete partnership?'" Aytav said, "The press plays a key part owing to these facts."
The Eurasia Dialogue and Tolerance Awards will also be given at the meeting for the first time; the awards will be determined by the national committee of each country.
Professor Ilber Ortayli, the DAP Chair, said Russia will be the platform leader for the next two years.
Moreover, the works of participating countries in the past two years will be discussed, handling General DAP activities.
A new chair will be elected by the committee as the general chairman's two-year office has expired.
The platform will adjourn after the introduction of DA National Committee Activities, the DA Website, the DA Youth Platform and the reading of the closing statement.
DAP has organized six meetings so far, the first one took place in Istanbul on 15-17 September 1998.
Last year's meeting took place in Antalya on November 17-21.
DAP convening at Bishkek for the first time outside of Turkey on October 27-31, also coordinates scientific meetings to secure peace among civilizations and religions. (By Saban Gunduz, Antalya)
