Foreign Students Outdo Teachers in Turkish
The 4th International Turkish Olympics was organized at Kizilcahamam in Ankara. The audience was surprised to see foreign students from Turkish schools abroad speak Turkish better than their teachers.
The pre-elimination results for poem, song and Turkish were announced on Monday. Students, who passed on to the second round were ecstatic, while eliminated students were comforted by their teachers.
Having learned Turkish from her German mother at the age of three, Dielan Edizer, a student from Germany, began to cry when her name was announced for elimination.
Parvina Sodikova, a 9th grade student at Tajik Turkish Joint Schools' in Tajikistan, entered a written exam together with nine Turkish teachers in an activity organized during her school's Turkish week.
Sodikova scored higher on the exam then all the teachers expect for one, a Turkish grammar teacher.
Award Ceremony on June 17
Four Japanese students sang "Uskudar'a Gider Iken,' a Turkish song also favored by Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.
The children in the audience applauded the Japanese students, who learned Turkish in just a month and half at Horizon International School founded by Turkish businessmen.
Sunee Annel, a student at International College of Isik in Madagascar, sang Sari Cizmeli Mehmet Aga" composed by Baris Manco and recited the poem "Street Child" written by Bedirhan Gokce.
