Uganda: Gaggawala Woos Turkish Investors
Kampala — The state minister for trade, Nelson Gaggawala Wambuzi, has called on more Turkish business people to invest in Uganda, saying the country had the most conducive environment for profitable investment in the region.
He also asked Ugandans to consider exploiting the fast growing Turkish industrial technology and business in Europe to boost their businesses.
Wambuzi was recently addressing people at a dinner and dialogue organised by the Turkish Community at the Kampala Serena Hotel in honour of Fethullah Gülen, a Muslim scholar and religious guide. The theme of the dialogue, 'Love and Tolerance' attracted academicians including Kampala University vice chancellor, Prof. Badru Kateregga who delivered papers on the Fethulla Gülen Movement in Thought and Practice.
Gaggawala said Turkey was one of the fast growing economies in Europe with many business opportunities that local entrepreneurs should exploit by setting up links using his ministry.
He later met and talked to several Turkish businessmen working in Uganda that deal in an assortment of businesses that include manufacturing and importation of high class furniture, building materials, construction and information technology.
He assured the investors that government would be willing to facilitate them in setting up their investments and asked them to approach his office or any other relevant offices for fast action.
State minister for industry, Rev. Fr. Simon Lokodo who had just concluded a business trip to Turkey applauded the Turkish hospitality and a good environment which he said were encouraging for business between the two countries. He asked local entrepreneurs take advantage of this environment to start trading with Turkey.
"I never expected a Christian and black man to be given such hospitality in Turkey but the way I was handled encouraged me that Ugandans can do good business with Turkey," he said.
The outgoing and incoming chairman of the Turkish Community in Uganda, Ilhan Erdogan and Ejder Kilic thanked the government for its support to all Turks living in Uganda and their businesses and pledged for more collaboration.
