Gülen Rewarded With ‘Superior Service Award’ By TYB

Fethullah Gülen, prominent religious scholar and honorary chairman of the Journalists' and Authors' Foundation, livind in exile in the United States, was presented with the "Superior Service Award" for his contributions to Turksh culture abroad, the Anatolia news agency reported.

The Turkish Authors' Association (TYB) held a ceremony in teh TYB Culture Center in Sultanahmet, Istanbul to present the traditional awards to those who contribute to Turkish culture, language, thought and art. Journalitsts' and authors' Foundation Chairman Nazif Oztürk said that they give the awards without making any discrimination according to the ideologies and thoughts of the people, and he stated that they selected the award winners from among 1,500 candidates.

During the ceremony awards were presented to winners in 27 catefoires. Following are winners from various categories; Tamer Korkmaz from Zaman daily and Mehmet Altan from Sabah daily, daily articles; Nevval Sevindi, television culture; Gülay Sezer, music; Berat Demirci, article; Elif Safak, novel; Fatma KarabIyIk Barbaraosoğlu, story; BahadIr Bayril, poetry. 2001-03-04 00:00:00
