Military Track Record Unpromising

Military Track Record UnpromisingMany people in Turkiye think that the Turkish Armed Forces past track record is unpromising when comes to investigating scandals or allegations that are related to milatary or military personnel.

Serious allegations that the military had prior information regarding a PKK ambush at a border station, which left 15 soldiers dead, were not investigated.

The military didn't start an investigation into journals allegedly kept by Retired Admiral Ozden Ornek. These coup diaries were established as authentic by a civil court during the ongoing investigation into Ergenekon.

In addition to the coup diaries, many other inquiries have been conducted by the military but never brought to a conclusion.

An investigation launched by the Military Prosecutor's Office into three noncommissioned officers for “forging documents” in March has still not produced results.

Parliament requested information on the outcome of that probe a month ago, but the Military Prosecutor's Office has not yet made a statement.

The General Staff's statement about an ongoing probe into military officers who allegedly devised a plot to undermine the credibility of the Justice and the Development Party and the influential faith-based Gülen movement has not been found satisfactory by any segment of society.
