Niagara Foundation Delivers Well Deserved AwardsThe Niagara Foundation, founded by Turkish Americans in Chicago, has awarded individuals who have devoted themselves to promoting mutual understanding, peace, dialog, community service and education in the Chicagoland area at the fourth Peace and Dialog Awards called "Honoring the Heroes of Chicago". The event took place at the University Club of Chicago.

This year's awards were given in four categories: the community service award, the lifetime leadership award, the media award and the Fethullah Gülen award.

Many academics, politicians, religious leaders, and bureaucrats attended the ceremony and was emceed by Kathy Brook, co-anchor of ABC 7.

Brook read out a letter sent by Turkish scholar Fethullah Gülen who is also the honorary president of the Niagara Foundation.

Brook said Gülen could not attend the event due to his serious health problems.

Michael J. Madigan, who is the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives and Chairman of the Democratic Party of Illinois delivered the inaugural speech. Madigan gave examples of his endeavors in developing dialog and mutual understanding.

The president of Niagara Foundation, Serif Soydan called the award recipients as the heroes of love.

Kenan Ipek, the Turkish counsel of Chicago finalizing the ceremony congratulated the employees of Niagara Foundation for their intercultural dialog works.
