Pakistanis Participate in Turkish Olympiads

The Pakistani leg of the annual Turkish Olympiads, sponsored by the International Turkish Education Association (TÜRKÇEDER), was held in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, where over 200 Pakistani students gathered to compete on Monday.

Students who moved on to the finals competed in four categories, including poetry and song contests. Following the national anthems of Turkey and Pakistan, the Pakistani students performed national dances and sketches. After the opening ceremony, the competition, whose winners will qualify to participate in the 8th International Turkish Olympiads to be held in Turkey, began.

Muhammad Iqbal from the PakTurk International Schools & Colleges, Lahore branch, won first place with his rendition of Orhan Gencebay's song "Benim Dünyam," Ahmad Avais from the PakTurk International Schools & Colleges, Khairpur branch, came in first in poetry with Mehmet Akif Ersoy's "To the Çanakkale Martyrs." PakTurk International Schools & Colleges, Peshawar, student Behzad Naim won first place in Turkish literacy while Mustafa Azizi from PakTurk International Schools & Colleges, Quetta, came in first in Turkish language. The four students will represent their country in the 8th International Turkish Language Olympiads, to be held in İstanbul from May 26 to June 9, 2010.
