Response Comes for Pakistan
While the death toll in earthquake-hit Pakistan is increasing, so is the establishment of relief organizations.
One of these is the "Kimse Yok Mu" (Isn't There Anyone) charity foundation, known for its aid campaigns for the poor in Turkey. Officials from the foundation said people had called them from all over Turkey in order to help Pakistan and that they cannot leave their Muslim brothers alone on these difficult days. Kimse Yok mu Foundation was launched in a drive with the permission of Turkish Interior Ministry.
The first response to the campaign came from Fethullah Gülen. Currently in the US for extended medical treatment, Gülen has donated copyright revenues worth 20,000 new Turkish liras. He telephoned and told his relatives to transfer the copyright receivable from Nil Sesli Yayincilik (Nil Audio Publications) to the earthquake victims in Pakistan.
Head of the foundation, Mehmet Ozkara, said to those who want to help: "In the first place, we will take cash donations collected in bank accounts to the earthquake-hit area to provide for urgent needs. We are now planning what we can do about contributions in kind." The Kimse Yok Mu Foundation prefers taking the contributions to the area in the form of cash and thus the volunteers reach the earthquake hit area in the shortest possible time for help. "We will obtain a list of the needs from the places closest to the quake hit region," said Ozkara. The transportation of donations of food and basic goods to the disaster area is expensive and leads to loss of time, so they will focus on permanent help after having met the urgent needs.
In addition to the official institutions, non-governmental organizations mobilized for help with charity committees formed all over Turkey and by means of bank accounts opened. Turkish Religious Affairs Directorate will launch a relief campaign in the Friday prayer in all mosques within and outside Turkey for earthquake victims. (Mukremin Albayrak)
