Timoshenko Yelena Ivanovna: Turkish Schools Bridge Different Cultures
Bilateral relations based on economic affairs are increasingly being replaced by those based on educational activities. The 80-person Ukrainian team, which came to Turkey four years ago upon the invitation of the Bahcelievler Businessmen Association (BISAD), is one of the finest examples of this premise.
Timoshenko Yelena Ivanovna, a member of the team, which has made several more visits to Turkey since its first, expressed the team's appreciation of Turkish schools in their country. Ivanovna, the deputy rector responsible for the programs of international affairs and distance education at the European University, which was founded by her family following Ukrainian independence in 1991, describes Meridian College, a Turkish school in Ukraine, as "perfect."
Noting that the college is a very well known and prestigious institution, she relates her impressions of the Turkish school saying: "I attended the Meridian College's activities upon their invitation. It was great. I saw the pride, cheer and happiness on the faces of the parents who attended the graduation ceremony of their children. Most of them received important awards in the science Olympics. And the teaching staff is very young. For this reason, they are able to better communicate with the students. Our ties with Meridian are very good. We would like to see the graduates of this school in our university." Inspired by the Turkish schools in her country, Ivanovna says, "We will carry on the revolution initiated by the Turkish schools."
