Turkish School Wins Silver in Science Olympiad

International Moscow High School 56, subsidized by Turkish entrepreneurs, was awarded a silver medal in the nation-wide Ecology Olympiad.

Katya Bikova took second in the Ecology Olympiad held as an upper category of the competition.

Bikova acknowledged that team work, Duran Kala, their guidance councilor, and Professor Amir Guseynov, an academic assistant, played a key role in her achievement.

The young female student took samples of soil from Bitevski Park and Toplistan hills in Moscow and observed that mosses are the most important vegetation that impacts soil pollution.

Kala said Moscow's 56 high school has earned a prestigious reputation ranking among the top seven schools.

Widely recognized throughout Russia, the high school seeks the honor of being listed in Itogi, which lists school's annual educational ratings, said Kala.

Vasiliy Raksa, another student from the same school, attended the Olympiad in the field of biology.

Four thousand schools went through elimination process to participate in the science Olympiad. Zeynep Sule, also from the same school, was awarded a high merit last month for her project on how additives impact on food. (By Mirza Cetinkaya, Moscow)
