Zaman, Russian Daily Cooperate to Boost Turkish-Russian Ties

The Zaman daily has contributed to the publishing of a supplement about Turkey by the Russian Izvestiya daily in a move to boost relations between the two countries.

The supplement, which Russian readers will receive with the İzvestiya daily today, covers news reports on Turkish politics, culture, economy and foreign policy. An article penned by Turkish President Abdullah Gül will also appear in the supplement. The supplement will come shortly after Gül's three-day official visit to Russia to discuss with his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, measures that will ensure that bilateral economic relations are not influenced by the global economic crisis and developments in the Caucasus region. The supplement also provides readers with a column written by İzvestiya reporter Yekaterina Zabrodina, who describes the Turkish president as Turkey's most brilliant politician. "The president's charisma is self-evident; he has a Hollywood smile and Byzantine shrewdness. … As a human, Abdullah Gül is a charming, amiable and handsome man. His way of talking is very friendly and kind," Zabrodina says.

Cihan TV Network General Manager and Zaman columnist Abdülhamit Bilici writes in his article for the supplement about how Turkish-Russian relations evolved over time. Another Zaman columnist, Bülent Korucu, also the editor-in-chief of the Aksiyon weekly news magazine, explains developments in Turkish politics.

The supplement also includes a feature by İzvestiya reporter Petr Inozemtsov on well-known Turkish intellectual Fethullah Gülen and his movement. İnozemtsov mentions Gülen's efforts to promote world peace and contributions to science and education. (Faruk Akkan, Moscow)
