Taking Refuge in God

How fortunate are those who are in love with pursuing the Hereafter! Ne mutlu âhireti peyleme sevdasına tutulanlara; ne mutlu.
How fortunate are those that have the wisdom, intellect, vision and perspicacity to distinguish between the finite and infinite.
They can see what is right and wrong and judge accordingly. Neyin eğri, neyin doğru olduğunu görüyor, ona göre hüküm veriyorlar.
They choose the path to journey on accurately. Yürüyecekleri yolu, isabetli belirliyorlar.
They follow the trail set by the Prophets and the Rightly-Guided Caliphs. Önlerinde sürekli peygamberlerin izini görüyorlar; Râşid Halifelerin izini görüyorlar.
When a person constantly thinks of the life of the Companions, their way of thinking, their philosophy of life, what they pursued, they are constantly reminded of thousands of things that are associated with them at every step. "Sahabî hayatı, sahabî düşüncesi, sahabînin hayat yorumu, hayat felsefesi, sahabînin peylediği şeyler" diyen bir insan, attığı her adımla ayağını onların bastığı yerlere bastığı için, o izlerin çağrıştırdığı dünya kadar şey oluyor.
At one step, they might be reminded of loyalty and Abu Bakr might appear in front of them. Bir adımını atınca, sadakat adına birden bire gözünün önünde Hazreti Ebu Bekir tebellür ediyor (billurlaşıp beliriyor, meydana çıkıyor).
At another step; justice and the truth, Umar might appear.
At another step; decency and modesty against luxury and pomp, Uthman might appear. Edep ve hayâ adına, bohemliğe karşı koyma adına adımını attığı zaman da Hazreti Osman tebellür ediyor.
When a step is taken to express the truth, Ali appears ready to take down the gates of the castle of Khaybar. Hak ve hakikati ikâme etme adına, Hayber kapılarını koparma izine ayağını bastığı zaman ise, birden bire Hazreti Ali tebellür ediyor.
And the list continues. Daha niceleri, daha niceleri.
And whatever the circumstances are, these people will remain upright in the face of hostility. Ve her haliyle, sıkıntıda olsa bile, başına balyozlar inse-kalksa bile o izlerle ayakta duruyor.
Hostility from all kinds of despots and dictators. Ulusalcı balyozu, çağdaşçı balyozu, kuvvacı balyozu, müstebit balyozu, diktatör balyozu.
As the blows rain down on their heads, they do not even feel their existence. Bunlar başına indikçe, o, âdetâ onları duymuyor bile.
They follow the example of their predecessors so closely that they are in a state of excitement and enthusiasm; they do not feel the hostility of others. Takip ettiği izler, onu öyle sevdalı hale getirmiş ki, kendinden geçmiş, mest u mahmur; "heymân" yaşıyor, hafakan yaşıyor, heyecan yaşıyor hep orada.
They exert all their energy striving to remain on that path. "Amanın bu izleri kaybetmeyeyim" diye, o izleri yakın takibe alıyor, takip ediyor.
You see, Yunus Emre said seven centuries ago: Efendim, yedi asır evvel yaşamış Yunus Emre diyor ki:
'This road is long "Bu yol, uzaktır
It has many stations Menzili, çoktur
With no gateways, Geçidi, yoktur
Only deep water'. Derin sular var"
Of course there will be difficulties and challenges. Elbette bir kısım sıkıntıları vardır.
The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, stated in an authentic tradition: Allah Rasûlü (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) sahih hadis-i şerifleri ile buyuruyor ki:
'Paradise is enclosed by hardships, and Hell is surrounded by desires of the carnal soul.' "Cennet çepeçevre nefsin hoşuna gitmeyen şeylerle sarılmış, Cehennem de (bedenî arzu ve iştihaları kabartan) şehevâtla kuşatılmıştır."
Paradise is surrounded by things that are at times unbearable and unpleasant to our desires.
There are thorns on the road to Paradise. Biraz dikenler vardır o yolda.
Therefore, one can be hit over the head, and even struck by a spear on his chest just like the respected Hamza.
But eventually, one will arrive at this destination, the place one desired and longed for.
That destination that is always on one's mind, when one thinks of that place, Gözünde hep orası olduğuna göre, orası gözünün önünde tüllenince.
I wonder if you try this sometimes. Hani, bilmem deniyor musunuz bazen?
When you close your eyes and say: 'O God! Protect us from Hellfire', you then visualise Hell with its boiling fire. Böyle gözünüzü yumup "Allah'ım bizi Cehennem ateşinden uzak tut, koru" derken, magmalar gibi Cehennem ateşlerinin fışkırdığını, hayal dünyanız, gözünüzün önüne getiriyor.
You then say, 'Protect me from this'. "İşte bundan koru" diyorsunuz.
When you say, 'Make us part of Your Paradise', suddenly roses start blooming, tulips start sprouting, nightingales start singing, and palaces appear in your mind. Sonra "Bizi Cennete dâhil eyle" falan derken, birden bire bakıyorsunuz ki, güller açıyor, lâleler orada boy göstermeye başlıyor, bülbüller şakıyor, saraylar peşi peşine diziliyor.
When you close your eyes and make your supplications, you immerse yourself into such a world. Gözlerinizi kapayıp dediğiniz şeyleri derken, böyle bir dünyaya dalıyorsunuz.
As you will experience such calming thoughts on the path that you embarked upon, you do not feel the suffering caused by the blows to your head. Yürüdüğünüz yolda bütün bu türlü şeyler ile karşılaşacağınızdan dolayı, balyozların acısını/sızısını bile duymuyorsunuz.
But the people who worship this world constantly live in fear and pain thinking 'I may lose everything that I have in this world'. They say 'Oh no, this is too heavy a burden for me. What if they take this away from me? What if I lose it all?' Therefore they resort to unimaginable despotism. Fakat dünyaya tapan insan, "Dünya adına sahip olduğum şeyleri elimden kaçırırım" diye her adımında ayrı bir karın sancısı yaşıyor; her adımında kasıklarını tutuyor, "Aman" diyor, "Çok ağır geldi bana; ya elimden alırlarsa bunu, ya kaçırırsam bunu" dolayısıyla o mevzuda akla hayale gelmedik firavunluklara giriyor.
They commit various vices and atrocities while paranoid, thinking, 'Oh, these people may steal this from me, those people may take this away from me'; following the path of evil and injustice. "Aman, şunların bunu elimden kaçırma ihtimali var; şunların elimden alma ihtimali var" diye, paranoyalara bağlı değişik mesâvîyi irtikâp ediyor, değişik mezâlimi irtikâp ediyor; mesâvî ve mezâlim yolunda, mesâvî ve mezâlimin insanı götürdüğü/taşıdığı yere gidiyor.
The final destination of the train of vices and atrocities is Hell, the lowest of the low, the 'abyss'. Mesâvî ve mezâlim treninin son istasyonu, Cehennem'dir, esfel-i sâfilîndir, "gayyâ"dır.
The place where you fear what you will face when you are told, 'Come on, everybody out'. Orada "Haydi herkes dışarıya" dendiği zaman, nereye döküleceğini düşüneceksin.
However, a train also carries the people, who are, in a way, thirsty for and in love with 'the most elevated degree in Paradise, the degree of the best and the perfect before the Almighty God'. Ama "a'lâ-i İlliyyîn-i kemâlât"a (Cennet'teki en yüksek dereceye, Cenâb-ı Hak indinde en iyilerin ve kâmillerin derecesine) -bir yönüyle- teşne, gönül kaptırmış insanları da bir tren taşıyor;
Maybe another, faster vehicle carries them; maybe they developed wings for themselves. belki ayrı bir vasıta, daha hızlı bir vasıta taşıyor; belki kendileri melekler gibi kanatlanmışlar.
When they're told, 'Come on, get off', they will come across songs of nightingales and the smiles of roses. "Haydi, aşağıya dökülün" denip döküldükleri zaman, bülbül şakımalarıyla, güllerin onlara gülmeleriyle karşı karşıya kalacaklar.
And above all, there is such a thing.
That once they've witnessed it, they will forget everything they've seen and done. Onu müşahede edince, görüp ettikleri her şeyi unutacaklar.
And above all, there is such a thing that they will forget everything they've tasted and experienced.
'And when they see Him, they forget all blessings of Paradise. "O'nu gördükleri zaman bütün Cennet nimetlerini unuturlar.
May frustration be upon those Mutazilites who claim God cannot be seen.' 'Allah görülmez' diyen Ehl-i İ'tizâl'e hüsran olsun."
One moment of the vision of Divine Beauty is superior to thousands of years of Paradise. Bir dakika rü'yet-i Cemâli, Cennet'in binlerce senesine fâiktir.
And this is a symbol of multiplicity; one moment of the vision of Divine Beauty is superior to millions of years of Paradise. Bu da kesretten kinaye; bir dakika rü'yet-i Cemâli, Cennet'in bir milyon senesine fâiktir.
This is because no matter how much inward-outward, material-spiritual beauty there is that is splashed on everything, from your faces to the face of the universe, to your state of attainment of the perfect pattern of creation, it is all but the manifestations of His Grace.
You will encounter such blessings and say, 'We are so fortunate that we were patient in the face of misfortunes.
So fortunate that we said, 'Now we must remain hopeful and patient.' 'Artık bize düşen, ümitvar olarak güzelce sabretmektir' demişiz.
By saying, 'We can only ask for help and seek refuge in God' and seeking refuge in Him, presenting our complaints and condition to Him. 'Yardımına müracaat edilip sığınılacak sadece Allah var' diyerek, Allah'a sığınmış; şikayet edeceksek, halimizi O'na açmış, O'na dert yanmış, niyazda bulunmuşuz.
By saying, 'My God, I present to You my concerns, sorrows, complaints, my violent anguish and burning heart.' 'Tasa, hüzün, şikayet ve şiddetli elemimi, yürek yangınımı Allah'a arz ediyorum.' demişiz.
By saying, 'O the one who honours the broken hearted with His company' knocking on His door and praying, 'O the One Who accompanies the broken hearted! 'Ey kalbi kırıkları maiyyetiyle şereflendiren.' diyerek, O'nun kapısının tokmağına dokunmuş; 'Ey kalbi kırıklarla beraber olan Zât.
We are at your door, our hands on the door handle. Senin kapının önündeyiz, elimiz de kapının tokmağında.
We came to You in the face of those towering over us with weapons in their hands' Sana geldik; şu, tepemize balyozlar indiren insanlara karşı, Sana geldik' diye yakarmışız.
You will say, 'Thank goodness we did this.'" İyi ki bunları yapmışız" diyeceksiniz.
If this is your path, this will be what you say. Yol bu ise, ses-soluk da bu olacaktır.
If this is your path, that is where you will end up.
When they say, 'Off you go, you've arrived', you will be greeted by the Pride of Humanity, peace and blessings be upon him, waiting for you with his family. "Haydi, aşağıya inin" dedikleri yerde, indiğiniz yerde, birden bire İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu'nu (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) karşınızda bulacaksınız; aile efradı ile beraber, Ehl-i Beyt'i ile beraber.
He will say, 'Welcome, my brothers and sisters'. "Kardeşlerim, hoş geldiniz" diyecek.
Did he not call you 'My brothers and sisters' while he was alive? Dünyadayken size "Kardeşlerim" dedi mi, demedi mi?
'My brothers and sisters will come near the end of time.' "Kardeşlerim, âhir zamanda gelecek."
When the world is surrounded by anarchy and subversion, those devoted to setting things right.
Those people, who exert effort to amend, purify and turn hearts towards The Ultimate Truth and Ever-Constant. Gönülleri ıslah etmek, onların içindeki çirkinlikleri temizlemek, tezkiye etmek ve onların yüzlerini Hakk'a tevcih etmek için gayret sarf eden insanlar.
How fortunate are those forlorn ones, who have dispersed all over the world.
In a time when some are devoted to spreading anarchy and subversion, making the world an unlivable place, those people who have spread around the world like seedlings, devoted to service, will shoot up. Onlar, elin-âlemin fitne-fesat çıkardığı, ortalığı bozduğu, yaşanmaz hale getirdiği dönemde saçıldıkları her yerde, başağa yürürler, ıslahçı olarak hareket ederler.
They bring peace to ruined minds; they are the spiritual power of quaking hearts; they relax consciences, by the permission of God. Bozulmuş dimağları, huzura erdirirler; sarsıntı içinde olan kalblere kuvve-i maneviye olurlar; vicdanları rahatlatırlar, Allah'ın izni ve inâyetiyle.
Those who do justice to the honour of the title 'best of stature' in a time when creatures that appear as humans are provoking the population; they are the reformers. İnsan şeklindeki bazı mahlukların halkı ifsat ettikleri dönemde, ahsen-i takvîme mazhariyetin hakkını veren ve onu koruyan, onu ayaklar altına almayan insanlar; onlar ıslahçılar.
Let the road be long, let it have many stops, let there be no escape, let there be deep water before it, let there be cliffs. Efendim, varsın o yol "uzun" olsun, "menzili çok" olsun, "geçidi yok" olsun, önünde "derin sular" olsun, aşılmaz uçurumlar bulunsun.
If the place you will eventually reside in is the world of eternal bliss. Sonuçta konaklayacağınız yer, o ebedî saadet diyarı ise.
After this inn-like world. Bu konaktan sonra.
And this place is a 'guest house with two doors, the guests leave, they do not stay entertained.'
The real place of entertainment however will make you say, 'A thousand praises and thanks to You, my God!' Fakat eğlenebileceğiniz bir yer, orası ise şayet, "Allah'a binlerce hamd u senâ olsun" diyeceksiniz.
It is related that the most noble Messenger of God would repeat this prayer often: Rasûl-i Ekrem (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) Efendimiz'in şu duayı çok tekrarladığı rivayet edilmektedir:
'My God! "Allah'ım.
I seek refuge in You from knowledge that is of no benefit, a heart that does not quiver in respect, from an unquenchable soul and from supplications that are not accepted.' Fayda vermeyen ilimden, saygıyla ürpermeyen gönülden, doyma bilmeyen nefisten ve kabul edilmeyen duadan Sana sığınırım."
It is also related that he sought refuge from other calamities and diseases; in this regard, he sought refuge in God from 'eyes do not well up with tears.'
Upon considering the character of the Prophet and the matters he sought refuge from, it is seen that even behaviour that seems exceptional is included in those matters. It is inherent in his expression.
A person who thinks this way, acts this way, speaks this way, has also said these things.
For when the things they have said and done are observed, they are put into the same category. Çünkü deyip-ettiği şeylere bakıldığı zaman, esasen bunlar aynı kategoriye dâhil şeylerdir.
But because some may be very important, perhaps those who relayed the matter first, they emphasised these matters.
They emphasised these matters because not acting in this manner is a big loss. Onların olmaması insan için çok olumsuz şeyler "vaîd"inde, tehdidinde bulunduğundan dolayı onlar üzerinde durmuşlar.
It was emphasised because favorable outcomes promised greater things. Pozitif şeylerin mevcudiyeti de güzel şeyler "vaad" ettiğinden dolayı onlar üzerinde durmuşlar.
And not having these positive aspects means that you would be doing yourself a disservice: in a way you will darken your own horizon by not having them Hani bunlar olmaması gerekli olan şeyler olduğundan dolayı, bunları yaptığınız zaman kötülük yapmış olursunuz esasen; bir yönüyle kendi dünyanızı, kendi ufkunuzu karartmış olursunuz.
Therefore, the Messenger takes refuge in God from things that darken one's scope. Dolayısıyla Allah Rasûlü, ufuk karartan şeylerden Allah'a sığınıyor.
First, he states: Birinci olarak, başta buyuruyor ki:
'I take refuge with You from useless knowledge.' "Faydalı olmayan ilimden Sana sığınırım."
The Qur'an says, Ee Kur'an-ı Kerim, ".
'Is that of a donkey carrying a load of books (it transports what it does not understand)' (Al-Jumu'ah, 62:5). (Onların durumları) tıpkı ciltlerle kitap taşıyan merkebe benzer" (Cuma, 62:5) diyor.
Stacks of books... Yığın yığın kitap.
He wrote books, completed doctorate upon doctorate and became a wise man. Boyları aşkın kitaplar yazmış, etmiş; doktora üstüne doktora yapmış, duayen hale gelmiş.
In the words of Sadi, that knowledge did not become a part of his nature. If he has not been able transform knowledge into deeds, then he has worn himself out in vain.
The Qur'an mentions this in its immaculate language; pardon my language, it refers to them as 'a donkey carrying books on its back'. Kur'an, lisân-ı nezihiyle meseleyi anlatırken böyle anlatıyor; bağışlayın, "sırtında kitaplar taşıyan eşek" diyor ona.
Nowadays, there are plenty of ignorant people with degrees. Günümüzde de çoktur böyle diplomalı cahiller.
They have tar and darkness in their mouths. Ağızlarından hep zift akıyordur.
Lies, deceits, slander and misinterpreting information is normal for them. Yalanlar, tezvirler mubah onlar için; iftiralar mubah onlar için; meseleleri ters anlamalar mubah onlar için.
All the knowledge they have learnt... Bunların okudukları ilimler.
All the books they have written... Boyunuzu aşkın kitaplar da yazsalar.
Even if they have written about the heart and spirit of Islam, Hatta bunların çoğu İslam'ın kalbî ve ruhî hayatı ile ilgili kitap bile ortaya koysalar.
if that knowledge did not become a part of their nature and if these steps do not abide by the criterion presented by the Lord, Bunları tabiatlarına mal edememişler ise şayet, söyleyecekleri/edecekleri her şey, Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın ortaya koyduğu kıstaslara göre değil ise, attıkları her adım o kıstaslara göre değil ise.
the type of knowledge that the Messenger of God confided in God with. Allah Rasûlü'nün Allah'a sığındığı ilim, işte o ilimdir.
'My Lord, I take refuge with You from useless knowledge!' "Allah'ım, faydasız ilimden Sana sığınırım."
In a way, if such knowledge isn't going to bring me closer to God, be my route into Paradise, allow me to experience the Divine bounties, then I do not want it.
Let us say: Efendim, biz de diyelim:
'My God! "Allah'ım.
I take refuge with You from useless knowledge' Faydasız ilimden Sana sığınırız."
To read abundantly, to look at many books is important, however, it is more important to incorporate that knowledge into our lives.
Sadi, I am hoping I could narrate it carefully as I read his book The Gulistan some sixty years ago, says: Sâdî, Gülistan'ında -Zannediyorum başına doğru bir yerde; unuttum, şimdi hatırımda değil, çünkü altmış sene evvel bakmıştım.- diyor ki:
'If you do not believe with your knowledge, then you are the epitome of ignorance'. "Sen, ilmin ile amel etmiyorsan, sen cahilin tâ kendisisin."
They are ignorant, ignorant of their ignorance, they believe they have knowledge Bilmez, bilmediğini de bilmez, kendini biliyor zanneder.
This is described as 'triple ignorance'.
They are ignorant, ignorant of their ignorance, all the while; they assume they're aware of everything. Bilmiyor, bilmediğini bilmiyor; fakat kendini biliyor zannediyor.
This is such a dangerous monster, that it will lead many astray, and turn them into beasts, may God protect us from it, Bu, öyle tehlikeli bir canavardır ki, hafizanallah, dünya kadar insanı şaşırtır, yoldan/şirazeden çıkarır ve onları da birer canavar haline getirir, sonra toplumun üzerine saldırtır onları.
In some places they kidnap the people of belief, like the way brigands do; they take them and throw them into pits. Bazı yerde ehl-i imanı kaçırırlar, eşkıyanın insan kaçırması gibi; götürür derdest ederler, onları zindanlara atarlar.
They formulate plans to kidnap: Kaçırma projeleri/planları oluştururlar:
'Now they have learned our methods of kidnapping, we need to formulate new projects.' "Şimdi bizim kaçırma usulümüzü öğrendiler, bunun önünü alabilirler; yeni projeler oluşturmamız lazım.
They say we need to extinguish whosoever in the world has pure voices, let them breathe in our carbon dioxide as oxygen.
Because they suffer from troubled consciences, mind decay, and the degeneration of the soul. Çünkü vicdan bozukluğu yaşıyorlar, dimağ tefessühü yaşıyorlar, ruh dejenerasyonu yaşıyorlar.
It is very difficult changing this. Bunları değiştirmek çok zordur.
I assume that if they were alive in the period of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, they would join with Musaylimah the Liar. Zannediyorum Râşid Halifeler döneminde de olsalardı bunlar, Müseylemetü'l-kezzâb'ın saflarında yerlerini alırlardı.
Or join forces with Tulayha. Geri dönecekler de Tuleyha'nın yanında yerlerini alırlardı.
Those attached to the luxurious ways of living will join with Sajah. Bohemliğe düşkün olanlar da Secâh'ın yanında yerlerini alırlardı.
Yet none would join Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman or Ali. Ama hiç biri Ebu Bekr u Ömer u Osman u Ali'nin yanında yerlerini almazlardı.
Let us repeat: Bir daha diyelim:
'I take refuge with You from useless knowledge.' "Allah'ım, faydalı olmayan ilimden Sana sığınırım."
Secondly, our noble Prophet says, 'I seek refuge from the heart that does not tremble'. İkinci husus olarak, Efendimiz, "Ürpermeyen kalbden, Allah'ım, Sana sığınırım" buyuruyor.
The word 'reverence' is important here, in contrast to concentration.
Reverence or awe, in a way, is what pours into one's actions; it determines the depth of one's stance in the sight of God.
It may expressed with this: Şununla ifade edilebilir:
The awe or reverence in acting with the belief that God can see you is God-consciousness.
Our noble Prophet said that 'If one had reverence in their heart, it would have poured into one's limbs and organs'.
Indeed that is what reverence is. İşte huşû, öyle bir şey.
The other, fear, bubbles deep inside, and pours out like lava.
If one is reverent to God like this, it will pour even into one's iris, their facial expressions, their hand gestures, their voice tone, the ideas they put forth.
Our noble Prophet said that 'If one had reverence and awe in his heart, it would have poured into one's limbs and organs'. "Eğer kalbinde huşû olsaydı, o, aza ve cevârihine de aksederdi" buyuruyor Efendimiz.
The phrase that In'amullah relates to Sir James Jeans: Hani, Sir James Jeans karşısında İn'amullah'ın dediği şey var:
Words are churned and changed; there In'amullah says: Değişik sözler eviriliyor, çevriliyor bir şeye geliyor; orada (Pakistanlı) İn'amullah ona diyor ki.
Sir James Jeans is a philosopher, truth-loving, in a way like Pascal.
Just as Bediüzzaman stood at the top of a tree and said, 'Listen to the stars, this beautiful sermon, what the luminous letters of wisdom have reported,' Hazreti Pîr-i Mugân'ın ağacın üstünde durup "Dinle de yıldızları, şu hutbe-i şirinini / Name-i nurîn-i hikmet, bak ne takrir eylemiş" dediği gibi,
he is a philosopher, who groans, 'My Lord! My Lord' by observing the sky from the window of a monastery. Manastır'ın pencerelerinden bakıp da gökyüzünü temâşa edip "Allah'ım, Allah'ım" diye inleyen insan, filozof.
He was in limbo as no one approached him with the right disposition and representation.
He was in limbo; but his purpose of life was searching for and running after the truth. A'râf'ta kalmış; fakat hep doğruyu arama, hep doğru peşinde koşma, onun şiarı olmuş.
Sir James Jeans was such a person. O Sir James Jeans da öyle birisi.
When it was the right moment, In'amullah told him the answer: Söz eviriliyor, çevriliyor, ona geliyor; İn'amullah da hemen yapıştırıyor:
'Of all His servants, only those who possess true knowledge stand in awe of God' (Al-Fatir 35:28). "Gerçek şu ki, kulları içinde, Allah karşısında, ancak âlimler saygıyla ürperir" (Fâtır, 35:28).
'What is this?' asks sir James Jeans. Sir James Jeans, "Ne bu?" diyor.
In'amullah responds, 'This is a verse from the Qur'an'. İn'amullah, "Bu, Kur'an'dan bir ayet" diyor.
'Is it Muhammad who said this?' "Bunu Hazreti Muhammed mi söylüyor?"
'Yes it is Muhammad'. "Hazreti Muhammed söylüyor."
'If he is saying this, then he must be a Prophet'. "O bunu diyorsa, O, peygamberdir" diyor.
People with deep understanding have a unique perspective. Anlayan, meseleyi başka türlü anlıyor.
And we read too: Bakın biz de okuyoruz:
Those people who have truly internalised knowledge that became part of their nature, and who have engraved this to their neurons. Gerçekten ilmi sindirmiş insanlar, bütün benliğine mal etmiş insanlar, nöronlarına nakşediyor gibi onu nakşetmiş insanlar.
And this will reflect on their actions in such a way that anyone who sees them will say, 'There is no deity but God.' O davranışlarına öyle aksedecek ki, onu gören herkes لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ diyecek.
There were such people amongst the narrators of Prophetic traditions. O hadis ricâli (Efendimiz'in hadislerini nakleden râvîler) içinde böyle insanlar vardı.
Whoever saw a person like this walking on the streets used to say, 'There is no deity but God.'
It was obvious from their actions, their humility, prostrating with the notion of being seen by God. Tavırlarından dökülüyordu, iki büklümdü, Allah tarafından görülüyor olma tavrını sergiliyordu.
Seeking refuge in God from a heart devoid of reverence, their spiritual intellect is constantly in reverence and awe, therefore all these feelings manifest in their manners and actions. Ürpermeyen kalbden Allah'a sığınıyor; latife-i Rabbâniyesi sürekli huşû ile köpürüp duruyor; dolayısıyla da bu onun tavır ve davranışlarına da aksediyordu.
Such representation and a state that there was no issue left unresolved and all people were influenced.
Since this is what we are lacking, we have not able been to spread this beautiful system of Islam and God to the world.
Who knows for how long? Bilmem kaç asırdan beri.
The respected sage Bediüzzaman says: 'We are trying to repair a castle that has been run down for three centuries'. Hazreti Pîr "Üç asırdan beri, rahnedâr olmuş bir kaleyi tamir ediyoruz" diyor.
For three centuries... Üç asırdan beri.
Meaning, some of the walls have collapsed, some are cracked, and some loose tiles fell from the dome. Demek ki -min vechin- surların bir kısmı yıkıldı, bazı yerlerde çatlamalar oldu, kubbede kopmalar oldu, dökülen taşlar oldu.
All of this happened, and by the time we came along, all of this was in the hands of some ignorant ones calling themselves believers. Peşi peşine bütün bunlar oldu; bize gelinceye kadar hepsi zıp zıpır, "Müslümanım" diyen cahillere kaldı.
Thus this run down castle requires repair. Dolayısıyla bu harap olmuş kale, tamir edilmek ister.
And this is dependent on attitude, behaviour, and depth of representation. Esasen o da tavır, davranış, temsil derinliğine bağlıdır.
If they do not see this, why should anyone follow your path? Onu görmeyince, insanlar niye sizin arkanızdan gelsinler ki?
In the aforementioned supplication, our noble Prophet says: 'I seek refuge in You from the soul that is never satisfied'.
May God protect us from it, that carnal soul that is so greedy it won't be satisfied with the whole world. Hafizanallah, dünyaları versen doymayan nefis, hadisin ifadesiyle.
In a genuine narration, our noble Prophet says: Efendimiz ifade buyuruyor sahih hadiste:
'If the carnal soul possesses two mountains of gold, it will want a third'. "İki dağ altını olsa, bir üçüncü dağı da ister."
It has such a delusion of immortality. Öyle bir tevehhüm-i ebediyet vardır ki.
It is blinded by a feeling of eternity and goes with the flow, never satisfied no matter what you give it. Tûl-i emel akıntılarına/çağlayanlarına kendini salmış; sürekli sürüklenip gidiyor; ne verirseniz verin, doyma bilmiyor.
Indeed, 'I seek refuge in You from the never-satisfied soul'. Evet, "Doymayan nefisten, Sana sığınırım."
It is not satisfied with one lodging in one place. Bir tane bir yerdeki varlığıyla yetinmez.
It might behave like Korah, may God protect us. Mesela, hafizanallah, Karun gibi davranır.
He will amass treasures somewhere, and then start thinking, 'In case they break the lock or someone forges or steals the key, Bir yerde bir hazine yaptı; "Yahu ne olur, ne olmaz; bunun kilidini kırar veya bir anahtar uydurur, çalarlar.
I better build another castle elsewhere too. And another one somewhere else. And yet another elsewhere.
So how am I coming up with this? Ee nereden çıkarıyorsun bunları?
When describing him, the Qur'an states: Kur'an, onu anlatırken, buyuruyor:
'We gave him treasures, the keys alone to which were a heavy weight for a party of strong men' (Al-Qasas, 28:76). "Ona hazineler dolusu öyle bir servet vermiştik ki, anahtarlarını bile güçlü kuvvetli bir grup insan ancak taşırdı" (Kasas, 28:76).
He had such treasures that they required ten strong men to carry the keys alone. Kuvvetli on tane insanın, anahtarlarını taşıyacakları şekilde hazineleri vardı.
Even if they were large keys like the keys to some mosques, or like the handle of this, if you imagine ten strong men carrying them, there must be armfuls of keys.
So in twenty places, thirty places... Demek ki yirmi yerde, otuz yerde.
He is not pleased with one. Bakın, birine razı olmuyor.
So he has a villa in one place and thinks that 'I am bored here. It is too familiar to us. My kids go for a walk to the same place, the same garden all the time.' Demek ki bir yerde bir tane villa yapıyor; "Yahu burada bıktım usandım; böyle, ülfet ünsiyet oldu; çocuklar hep çıkıyor, çıkıyor, aynı yeri görüyorlar; aynı bahçe" falan.
'This will bore even the nightingales. "Bu, bülbülün bile canını sıkar.
Let me have more villas in different places.'
No matter what the cost. Let me have one more in that place too, even if it will disturb the ecosystem, or even it will cost the cutting of ten thousand trees.
Let me have one more by the seaside for watching beauties around the beach.
Let me have one more on top of the mountain for getting more oxygen.
Let me have one more in a hole, for such and such reason.
And one more in such places.
These are not enough; I need to have fleets of ships too, for setting sails for the outer limits of the sea.
I need to see what is going on there.' Orada da neler oluyor, neler bitiyor, onları temâşâ etmem lazım."
If you object to these ideas or belongings they will say: Siz, bunlara itiraz etseniz, derler ki:
'Do you have any idea how these beautiful luxuries allow us to observe the beautiful works of God and his Divine Essence? "Âyât-ı tekvîniyeyi temâşâ etme adına, Zat-ı Ulûhiyetin eserlerini görme adına insana ne kazandırıyor, ne kazandırıyor; siz bilmiyorsunuz.
As ignorant people, why do you object to these belongings?'
And they try to deceive you by finding a religious basis for their actions. Hemen orada meseleye dinî bir menât (temel, dayanak, merci) bulmak suretiyle kandırmayı pekiştirmeye çalışırlar.
The carnal soul that is never satisfied... Doymayan nefis.
God's Messenger finds this to be such a dangerous thing that he lists it after useless knowledge and a heart that doesn't quiver in fear.
He also mentions, 'the supplication that is not answered', may God protect us from it.
In Tirmidhi's collection of traditions, the Messenger of God says in relation to 'prayers that are not answered': Tirmizî hadis-i şerifinde, "kabul olmayan dualar" adına Allah Rasûlü şöyle buyuruyor:
The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, says, 'God does not accept the prayer of the heart which does not know what it wants and desires'. "Allah, ne dediğini bilmeyen, söylediğinden habersiz olan bir kalbin duasını kabul etmez."
Without knowing what one is saying, one just says things from memory. Ne dediğinin farkında olmadan, ezberlediği şeyleri söylüyor.
In reality, what one says may be true. Hakikaten, dediği şeyler, doğru.
For example, one says: Mesela diyor ki:
'O God, keep us far away from Hellfire, save us, protect us. "Allah'ım bizi Cehennem ateşinden uzak tut.
O God, protect us from the fire. Allah'ım bizi ateşten koru.
Protect us from Hell.' Bizi Cehennem'den âzâd eyle."
One says this, but isn't aware of what is being said. Söylüyor fakat ne dediğinin farkında değil.
Considering this, when saying, 'O God! Protect us from the fire', one should try to close their eyes and imagine being in the presence of God and try to imagine the lava and fire of Hell: Biraz evvelki mülahaza ile, "Allah'ım bizi ateşten koru" derken, gözleri kapayıp Allah huzurunda bulunuyor olma mülahazasıyla, hakikaten magmalar gibi veya lavlar gibi fışkıran bir Cehennem'i hayalinde canlandırmaya çalışmalı:
'My God! "Allah'ım.
I am seeking Your protection from it. İşte ben, ondan Sana sığınıyorum.
O God! I am seeking Your protection from it'. Allah'ım, işte ben, ondan Sana sığınıyorum" demeli.
One's thoughts/feelings should be like the bridge of Sirat in one regard; God, may He be glorified and exalted, will not leave that seeking of protection in vain.
The thoughts/feelings in one's mind and perspective should be like the Sirat and then one should imagine one's self on that bridge.
Also when saying, 'Take us to Paradise, with the righteous ones', one should imagine the gardens and trees and flowers of Paradise. Bir de "Ve bizi dâhil eyle Cennet'e, ebrâr (iyiliğe kilitli sâlih kullarla) beraber" derken, birden bire Cennet'in bağının/bahçesinin, otunun-ağacının, selvisinin-bilmem nesinin salınıp durduklarını görecek ve kendinden geçecek, mest olacak.
'I seek protection in You from prayers that are not answered'. Efendim, "İcâbet edilmeyen davetten (duadan/yakarıştan) Sana sığınırım."
Prayers must come from the heart; not subconsciously and without meaning.
In reality, when we raise our hands to supplicate, Esasen, ellerimizi kaldırdığımız zaman.
Let me explain with the observation of someone: Birinin mülahazası ile arz edeyim:
I wonder how many people they feel as if something is raining in their palms from their excitement when they raise their hands in supplication? Bilmem kaç insan vardır, ellerini kaldırdığında, heyecanından, ellerinin içine bir şeylerin yağdığını hisseden?
It is as if something is raining in to the hands of the people who sincerely turn to God. Ellerinin içine bir şeyler yağıyor gibi olur, gerçekten Allah'a teveccüh etmiş insanın.
Now those ignorant people with diplomas might question this too saying, 'There's no such thing.
The books of jurisprudence write no such thing' they may say. İlmihaller yazmıyor öyle bir şeyi" derler.
O you man of jurisprudence! A be ilmihâlci adam.
You do not know anything beyond the basics of the faith. Sen, ilmihalin ötesinde bir şey bilmiyorsun ki.
You are living unaware of your heart, unaware of your spirit. Sen, kalbinden habersiz yaşıyorsun, ruhundan habersiz yaşıyorsun.
If you were to you concentrate properly, a tremor will stretch across your body, the rhythm of your heart beats will change and it will feel as if rain is falling onto your fingertips.
This is not objective. Objektif değil.
Force yourselves. Zorlayın kendinizi.
God Almighty will accept your prayers and supplications when you are standing in the presence of your Lord, in a state of serious concentration, in the words of past elders 'with diligent scrutiny', knowing that you are being watched by God and aiming to be in a state as if your are seeing God too.
This is one... Bir, bu.
The second: Bir ikincisi:
One makes supplications over and over. Dua yapar, yapar.
God Almighty wants to hear the supplication of His servants and wants the prayers to be in their book of good deeds. Allah (celle celâluhu) kulun duasını istiyordur; onun defter-i hasenâtına onun geçmesini istiyordur.
Consequently, God gives whatever His servant desires based on how much they want from their Lord in their supplication.
This is a tradition: Bu da hadis:
'As long as you are patient, everyone's supplication will be answered.' "Herhangi birinizin duasına icabet buyurulur, acele etmezse şayet."
How is one not patient? Nasıl acele ediyor?
By saying, 'I kept making my supplications and prayers but they were not accepted'. "Dua ettim ettim de kabule karîn olmadı" diyerek.
If you were to pray and make supplication for forty years, God Almighty will put you in the position of one who is on the verge of entering His door, gaining His mercy, His affection, making you a servant in the path of clemency, a person of beseeching his Lord. Kırk sene dua etsen, Allah (celle celâluhu) seni kırk sene kapısında, kapısının eşiğine, rahmet eşiğine, şefkat eşiğine, re'fet eşiğine baş koymuş, yalvaran bir insan haline getirir:
'Well done to My servant! "Aferin Benim kuluma.
For forty years I didn't give my servant what he sought, but I also didn't leave him completely deprived.
He was given a head start on the path he walked on, given many different bonuses but his own wishes weren't wholly fulfilled. Yürüdüğü yolda avanslar verildi, değişik şeyler aldı ama kendi istekleri tamamen yerine getirilmedi.
However, My heroic servant, prayed ceaselessly for 40 years, with deep tremors within his heart.' Fakat Benim kahraman kulum, hiç yılmadan, kırk sene, gönlünden gele gele, kalbinde ürpertiler hâsıl ede ede hep dua etti."
Yes, when the Messenger of God said, 'I take refuge in You from supplications that will not be accepted', he is indicating that those who get weary of making prayers, and supplicate with no thought, God knows best. Evet, Allah Rasûlü (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) "Kabul olmayan duadan da Sana sığınırım" derken, lâğî-lâhî duadan ve duaya karşı bıkkınlık yapan insanların dualarından istiâzeye işarette bulunuyor, Allahu a'lem.
Bediüzzaman said the following about his severe pains: 'Although I have supplicated for thirty years to be healed, and since my prayers have not been accepted externally, it has never occurred to me to abandon my prayers.' Hazreti Pîr diyor ki kulunç rahatsızlığı için, "Otuz senedir şifa duasını ettiğim halde, duam zahirî kabul olmadığından, duayı terk etmek kalbime gelmedi.
Because illness is the occasion or reason for prayer; to be cured is not the effect of the prayer. Zira hastalık, duanın vaktidir; şifa, duanın neticesi değil."
Albeit he was poisoned twenty one times. Vakıa yirmi bir defa zehirlenmiş.
After all these hardships in his life, I have not heard of him making such prayers like, 'Oh God, take these people away from me, they have poisoned me, poison them too'. Bunlardan dolayı ben öyle "Allah'ım, bunları benden al, beni zehirleyenleri Sen de zehirle" falan dediğini bilmiyorum;
I have not heard of anything like this from him. ben öyle bir şey görmedim; yok, öyle bir şey demiyor.
He is the emblem of forgiveness and grace. Affediciliği ve bağışlayıcılığı şiar edinmiş bir insan.
He says, 'I forgive you'. "Hakkımı helal ettim" diyor.
He lists and explains in paragraphs the hardships he suffered and they caused; he explains calamities that would make your stomach turn but at the end he still says 'I give you my blessing and forgive you'. Bütün kötülükleri sayıyor, sıralıyor, paragraf paragraf; insanın içini bulandıracak şeyler yapılmış ama "Hakkımı helal ettim" diyor.
Indeed, this is befitting of monumental figures. Evet, âbide şahsiyetlere düşen şey.
Beside the point, these are what we must strive to do as well.
In the face of the sledgehammers, picks, crowbars and spears that are being thrown at you and against those who are throwing you into jail, prepare yourselves to forgive them. Balyozculara karşı, külünkçülere karşı, sürekli sizin üzerinize mızraklarla gelenlere karşı, sizi zindanlara atanlara karşı, şakî bir şebeke gibi gösterenlere karşı, siz de "Hakkımı helal ettim" demeye kendinizi hazırlayın.
This action will be heroic and courageous.
Of course, we need to make sure we don't fall into their claws; Tabii ki, şimdi kıskaçlarına düşmemeye bakmak lazım;
we need to look into the remedies for this and make strategies to rise above them. onun çarelerini araştırmak lazım; o mevzuda stratejiler oluşturmak lazım.
But if the injustice finds you; you must still be ready to forgive.
Because this is the humane way to be. Çünkü insanca tavrın gereği budur.
The others are not humane. El-âlem insanca tavır yapmıyor.
'If you have to respond to any wrong, respond (only) to the measure of the wrong done to you, "Size yapılan bir haksızlık ve kötü muameleye mukabele edecek olursanız, size yapılanın aynısıyla mukabelede bulunun.
but if you endure patiently, it is indeed better for the patient' (An-Nahl, 16:126).
If you are in active patience, it is better for you. Sabrederseniz, bu, sizin için daha hayırlıdır.
The respected sage Bediüzzaman calls this act of responding in equal measure to what is endured 'the rule of responding identically to the cruelty incurred'. Hazreti Üstad, aynıyla karşılık vermeye "mukabele-i bi'l-misil kâide-i zâlimânesi" diyor.
Not responding to evil with evil... Kötülüğe kötülük ile mukabele değil.
Prophet Jesus says, 'Excellence in faith is not acting in kindness to those who act kindly to you; excellence in faith is to respond with kindness to those who treat you with evil.' "İhsan, sana ihsanda bulunana ihsan değildir; ihsan, sana kötülükte bulunana karşı yapılan iyiliktir" diyor Hazreti Ruhullah, Hazreti Mesih.
Be kind to the person who harms you. Sana kötülük yapana iyilikte bulun.
At least give the alms of a smile, just a smile. En azından bir tebessüm tasaddukunda bulun; tebessüm.
Yes, this is your character. Evet, karakteriniz, bu sizin.
Others may act like monsters, El-âlem canavarca davranmış.
as would be expected from monsters. Ee, canavar, canavarca davranır.
God has created us as humans, what befits us is to act with humanity. Allah, seni-beni insan yaratmış; bize düşen şey, insanca davranmaktır.
For a true believer, it is impermissible to abandon this demeanor.
Another matter is 'I take refuge in You from eyes that don't water.'
May God bless us with eyes filled with tears. Allah Teâlâ, şakır şakır gözyaşı dökmeye bizi muvaffak eylesin.
Three centuries ago we buried our tears and locked them away with huge boulders, saying, 'Let these never be lifted again'. Üç asır evvel biz, gözyaşlarını gömdük; üzerine de kocaman kayalar koyduk, "Bir daha kalkmasın" diye.
We said things like 'Let it water grass and trees from beneath the soil, we do not need it.' "Yerin altında otu-ağacı beslesin, bir su olarak; bize lazım değil" falan dedik.
However, if there is one antidote to put out the flames of Hell, it would be tears.
If there is one thing to take our prayers straight to God, it is the tears we cry for Him.
This is the explanation of the God's Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him: Allah Rasûlü'nün (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) beyanı:
'Don't laugh too much. "Çok gülmeyin.
It kills the heart.' O, kalbi öldürür."
This is what it says in the Qur'an: Kur'an da şöyle buyuruyor:
'So let them laugh little and weep much' (At-Tawbah, 9:82). "Çok az gülünüz ama çok, çok, çok ağlayınız" (Tevbe, 9:82).
Your prayer mats should be soaked; with the tongue of disposition say, 'That is enough! Seccadeleriniz ıslansın; hal dili ile "Yeter yahu.
I have become fully soaked, that is enough'. Sıkılacak hâle geldim, yeter yahu" desin.
In the dark night, when you try to turn on the lights to the Intermediate Realm, your tears, in a way, should be like oxygen or energy.
Your tears will provide light and illumination. Onlar, daha güçlü aydınlıklar meydana getirecektir.
May God make us like those who have such eyes. Allah, o türlü gözlere sahip olanlardan eylesin.
