Thousands of Peace and Blessings Upon You, O Messenger!

Muhyi says, 'Show us your face, which is as bright as the moon, Oh Mustafa, "Arz et cemâlin, göreyim, ey mâh-i tâbân Mustafa,
Remove the veil from your face, which is as bright as the sun, Oh Mustafa.' Ref' et nikâb-ı rûyini, şems-i dırahşan Mustafa" diyor Muhyî.
If there is passion within ones bosom for the Prophet, a burning desire to see him, then one will use the words of Muhyi.
If there is no such longing in the heart, then we should not expect such words to be uttered, because the tongue is often the interpreter of the heart.
At times, through evil impulses it can be an interpreter of bad, a tongue is a true organ only when it is in sync with the heart. Bazen şeytanın dürtüleri ile onun dediklerine de tercüman olur; fakat dilin dil olması, "dil"e (gönle) dil (lisan) olmasına bağlıdır.
In Persian, 'dil' (tongue) means heart. Farsça "dil", gönül demektir.
Essentially it is a tool for expressing one's spiritual excitement, through words and verses.
Yes, if there is such a longing in a heart, people will always wish to see him. Evet, gönülde var ise öyle bir iştiyak, insan, her zaman onu diler;
They will say 'If only I could see him in a dream.' "Ah keşke bir rüyamda bari görsem" der.
Sometimes their suffering and troubles will be an invitation for his presence and he can appear at any time as a favor. Bazen ızdırar halleri, zaruret halleri, mazlumiyet, mağduriyet halleri bir davetiye olur; tenezzülen onların ufkuna tecelli etmeleri her zaman söz konusu olabilir.
Right now those who are downtrodden and suffer see him.
In fact, there are some who see him while they were awake, the pride of Humanity appears with his illuminated grandeur, in a form similar to the one he had during the Ascension. Hatta bazen "Yakazaten gördüm" diyenler de var, açıktan açığa; İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu, vücûd-i necm-i nûrânîsi ile -Miraç'ta Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın huzuruna çıktığı o vücûd-i necm-i nûrânîsi ile- temessül ediyor.
In the manner described in the biographies; the way Ali ibn Abi Talib describes him.
Muhyiddin ibn Arabi and Imam Rabbani have some different comments. -Zaten o mevzuda, Muhyiddin İbn Arabî ile İmam Rabbânî'nin mütalaaları farklı biraz.-
He appears to raise the morale and motivate the innocent people who are suffering. Bu, onları (mağduriyet ve mazlumiyet yaşayanları) moralize etme adına, kuvve-i maneviyelerini takviye etme adına, inkisar yaşamamaları adına.
They are experiencing oppression and injustice but his presence is almost like him saying, 'Isn't this suffering worth it when I'm with you?'
And his most loyal Companions, whom he describes as: 'My Companions are like stars', his 'stars'.
Sometimes they appear in the form described in biographies and traditions.
For instance, Umar ibn al-Khattab, in all his greatness, wide shoulders with his hair drooping over them, wearing a dazzling turban appears and says, 'Do not worry, it is nearly over.'
Things like this are important to restore the motivation and supplement the morale of those suffering in the face of oppressors and evildoers.
But when it comes to those who have not experienced such things, they should have that desire within them and be in constant recitation of that desire. Fakat o türlü duruma maruz kalmayan insanlara gelince, onlarda da o istek olmalı; her zaman onu vird-i zebân etmeliler, onu dile dolamalılar, onu istemeliler.
As you know, the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, says, 'Endear God to others so that God may love you in return.'
The things you to do endear God, in ordinary conditions, are like a droplet, but when it comes to God loving you in return, it is like an ocean, not a droplet. Sizin Allah'ı, kullarına sevdirme mevzuunda yaptığınız şeyler, şart-ı âdî planında bir "damla"; Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın sizi sevmesine gelince, o, "damla" değil, "derya".
An ocean for a droplet, that's how profitable this is.
From this perspective, this was your real duty and that was what you were doing.
Like a galloping steed, you set off to all four corners of the world saying, 'May the Majestic Name of God spread everywhere.'
You were trying to make people love God with your manners, actions, behaviour, representation and if required, with your words. O'nu (celle celâluhu) sevdirmeye çalışıyordunuz tavırlarınız ile, davranışınız ile, hâliniz ile, temsiliniz ile, iktiza ederse bazen beyanınız ile.
Words should take a few steps back and leave the stage to action and representation. Beyan, hâlin ve temsilin yanında iki adım geriye çekilir, "Arkadaş.
It will say, 'Friend, the stage is yours', because actions and representation are more convincing. Söz, sizde" der; çünkü onlar, daha inandırıcıdır.
Words can sometimes be misleading, just like the words of politicians. Söz, bazen yalan olabilir, siyasetçilerin sözleri gibi.
Since endearing Him was your mission, God granted you love; meaning that He created love and interest in the hearts of others towards you.
'Assuredly, those who believe and do good, righteous deeds, the All-Merciful will assign for them love (in the hearts of the inhabitants of the heavens and many on the earth, so that they will receive welcome throughout creation, no matter if they are weak and small in number now)' (Maryam, 19:96). "Rahmân, iman edip imanları istikametinde sağlam, doğru, yerinde ve ıslaha yönelik işler yapanlar için (gök ve yer ehlinin gönüllerinde) bir sevgi var edecektir (de onlar her tarafta kabul göreceklerdir.)" (Meryem, 19:96).
'Love', is a deep attachment beyond affection that is felt in the heart, a feeling of acceptance, an act of opening one's bosom. "Vüdd", muhabbetin de ötesinde kalblerde duyulan derin bir alaka, bir kabul hissi, bir bağır ve sine açma işidir.
Instigating the love of God and the Prophet, according to tradition with a weak chain of transmission, is more desirable than everything upon which the sun rises and sets; and according to a sound tradition, it is more desirable than 'to give loads and loads of red sheep/camels as alms' Allah'ı sevdirme, Peygamberi sevdirme, -zayıf hadise göre- üzerine güneşin doğup-battığı her şeyden daha hayırlıdır; sıhhatli hadise göre ise, "yığın yığın kırmızı koyunlar/develer tasadduk etmekten daha hayırlıdır."
You can say, 'It is more desirable than red camels' as camels were the things the Arabs valued during that time; by today's standards, 'one hundred luxury vehicles'. O gün Arap'ın değer atfettiği "develer" olduğundan ".kızıl develerden daha hayırlıdır" diyebilirsiniz; bugünün değer hükümlerine göre, "yüz tane zırhlı araç".
It is so beautiful; becoming a means for someone to choose the right path, like giving all those possessions as alms.
Instigating the love of God and the Prophet is the most essential job of a believer. Allah'ı sevdirme, Peygamber'i sevdirme, mü'minin en önemli işidir.
Our noble Prophet doesn't mention the other one; I don't recall, maybe he did: Öbürünü söylemiyor Efendimiz; ben, hatırlamıyorum, belki de söylemiştir:
He says, 'Instigate the love of God in His servants hearts so that He will love you'; the other principal is this: "Allah'ı, kullarına sevdirin ki, Allah da sizi sevsin" diyor; öbürü de şu. -"Öbürü" de ne deme?- Diğer esas şu:
'Instigate the love of the Messenger of God so that He will love you,' 'Instigate the love of God's Messenger to his Ummah, to humankind so that God's Messenger will love you.' "Rasûl-i Ekrem'i sevdirin ki, O da sizi sevsin." "Allah Rasûlü'nü ümmetine, insanlığa sevdirin ki, Allah Rasûlü de sizi sevsin."
This is more desirable than going to Paradise; because we learned everything from him, peace and blessings be upon him, through his dazzling discourse, which is more beautiful than the calls of nightingales. Cennet'e girmekten daha hayırlıdır bu; çünkü her şeyi O'nun (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) sayesinde, O'nun bülbüllerin ötüşünün ötesindeki o insanı bayıltan beyanı sayesinde öğrendik.
Whatever we've seen and known has been through Him.
And what we've known and seen can't even be one per cent of what he revealed.
Bediüzzaman uses the phrase 'oshr mishar', which means one per cent.
I wouldn't know if what we've seen equals to that amount or not.
One must be speaking His Name, may He be glorified and exalted, all the time, and with Him must one spend his day and night. Oturup kalkıp sürekli hep O'nu (celle celâluhu) hecelemeli, O'nun ile gündüzlemeli, O'nun ile gecelemeli.
Our nights should be crowned with Him, our faces should touch the ground in the night prayer, our prayer rugs waiting for us, and our tears and cries should be entrusted to God. Geceler, O'nunla taçlandırılmalı, "teheccüd" adı/ünvanı ile; gecede yüzler, yere sürülmeli; seccadenin beklediği şey, seccadeye emânet edilmeli; gözyaşları, âh u vâh, O'na emanet edilmeli.
Nothing ever goes to waste. Hiçbir şey boşa gitmez.
God knows; He knows it all. O, biliyor; her şeyi biliyor.
Therefore, if you ever set your hopes on Him, you'll do so with your deep attachment. Dolayısıyla, eğer ümit bağlayacaksanız, işte o derin alakanız sayesinde ümit bağlayacaksınız.
At the same time, you need to balance this with a sense of fear saying 'God forbid, I fear I will lose my connection to you.'
Many dwelled on this fear of 'detachment' so much so that they only stopped thinking like this when they risked falling into the trap of hopelessness.
When you look at the statements and behaviour of the great Messengers in terms of their connection with God, you realise that even they had this fear. Enbiyâ-ı ızâmın bile o mevzuda, Allah ile münasebetleri açısından, beyanlarına, tavırlarına bakılacak olursa, o korku fark edilecektir.
The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Without the grace of God, even I cannot not enter Paradise.' İşte bakın Hazreti Rûh u Seyyidi'l-Enâm'a, "Allah'ın fazlı olmazsa, ben de Cennet'e giremem" buyuruyor.
Would the ordinary people of today, not the people of 'thought' but that of 'flesh', ever consider this, or voice such thoughts? Günümüzdeki sıradan -"kafa" değil "kelle insanı" diyebileceğimiz- insanların hiçbiri acaba bunu mülahazaya almış mıdır, hiç dillendirmiş midir?
Many great people cried out with such a sense of fear. O büyüklerden çokları havf hissiyle inlemişlerdir.
Because the great Messengers are protected in that respect, it is ensured that they will go to Paradise with God's favour, mercy and grace; there is no doubt about it. Enbiyâ-ı ızâm, o mevzuda masûn (korunmuş, koruma altına alınmış) ve ma'sûm (günahsız) olduklarından dolayı, Allah'ın lütfu, keremi, fazlı, menni, ihsanı ve inayeti ile onların Cennet'e girecekleri kat'îdir; onda şüphe yok.
But what of the others. Fakat onların dışındaki insanlar.
Think of our mother Aisha. Âişe validemizi düşünün.
She was the spouse of the Pride of Humanity in a house showered by Divine Revelation, and his loyal Companion and student at the same time. Vahyin sağanak sağanak yağdığı bir mübarek hücrede, İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu'nun yâr-ı vefâdârı oluyor, tilmizi (öğrencisi) oluyor ve eşi oluyor.
She was well aware of his life, day and night. Efendimiz'in gece hayatına vâkıf, gündüz hayatına vakıf.
But she was not sure of her fate at all. Fakat âkıbetinden hiç emin değil.
One day she was confiding in the Messenger of God.
She couldn't hold it in anymore and said it out loud; 'O Messenger of God! Artık bir yönüyle mesele, vicdanından taşıyor, diline/dudağına dolanıyor; "Yâ Rasûlallah.
Will you remember your spouse on the Day of Judgement?' Eşinizi, orada (mahşerde/ötede) hatırlar mısınız?" diyor.
The Messenger of God did not comfort her with false hopes. Allah Rasûlü, bedavadan insanlara utûfet dağıtıyor gibi -o mevzuda- söz söylemiyor.
He spoke of the matter based on its conditions. O mevzuda söylenecek her şeyi, kendi şartlarına bağlı söylüyor.
He once reminded someone who was not washing between his fingers while taking ablution: Abdest alırken, parmaklarını hilâllemeyen (aralarını ayırıp suyun nüfuzunu sağlamayan) birine buyuruyor ki:
'Those who do not wash between their fingers properly during ablution will have fire burning between them in the Hereafter.' "Abdest alırken parmaklarını böyle yapmayan, böyle yapmayan kimsenin parmaklarını öbür tarafta ateş hilaller; onların aralarına ateş girer."
When someone's feet are being washed, he sees a dry sole; 'Woe to these heels that will suffer from fire' he says. Ayağını yıkarken, kuru bir taban görüyor; "Ateşten çekeceklerinden dolayı şu topukların vay haline" diyor.
As a person who gives hope to everyone, who pleases them and surrenders to God, he is extremely sensitive on the matter of living God's commands. Herkese ümit aşılayan, recâ duygusuyla herkesi sevindiren, Allah'a tevcih buyuran insan, o mevzuda, Allah'ın emirlerini yaşama mevzuunda, yaşatma mevzuunda öyle hassas ki.
If any of the limbs remains dry, that ablution is not completed which means you will be praying without ablution.
He was sensitive in that regard. Öyle de hassas.
Regarding that sensitivity, he said to his highly esteemed wife: İşte o hassasiyeti izhar sadedinde, mübarek zevcesine, zevce-i mükerremelerine/mümtâzelerine buyuruyor ki:
'Not in three places'. What does this mean? "Ama üç yerde, asla" bu ne demektir?
In three places. İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu, demek o üç yerde.
God forbid, I do not want think about that, I will deliver his words.
'I cannot think of anyone there.' "Ben düşünemem kimseyi orada."
'I cannot think of you either', in other words, everyone should attempt to overcome those three obstacles in this realm.
Those obstacles need to be overcome here. O badireler burada aşılacak.
And that is dependent on the depth of the connection to God and the Messenger.
In this respect, a believer should make an effort in pleasing God and His Messenger while maintaining a balance between fear and hope, as we read in Al-Ghazali's book in the morning.
Just like our mother Aisha, we should quiver with fear. İşte Âişe validemiz gibi, o endişeyle böyle tir tir titremeli.
In fact, some people are petrified of dying as unbelievers. Hatta bazıları, kâfir olarak ölmekten korkuyorlar.
You have a friend who is most afraid of that, 'Dying as an unbeliever.'
When he places his head in prostration, he confides in Him, begs Him and whimpers, Başını yere koyduğu zaman -ben iyi tanıyorum onu da- başını yere koyduğu zaman, "Allah'ım.
'O God, do not take me as an unbeliever.' God knows how much he begs.
A person amongst the people, an ordinary person, your friend.
But very great people have also agonised over similar concerns.
Aswad ibn Yazid an-Nahi. Esved İbn Yezîd en-Nehâî.
In the time of the associates of the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, he was amongst the founders of Abu Hanifa's institutions and the head of the Nahai family. Tabiîn döneminde, Ebu Hanife ekolünün de kurucularından, müessislerinden; Nehâî Ailesinin serkârı.
Close to his time of death, his close friend Alqama comes to visit him. Vefat edeceği zaman, yakını Alkame, kendisini ziyarete geliyor; "Iyâdetü'l-marîd" (hasta ziyareti) deniyor ona.
The noble Aswad's life is almost over. He is saying farewell to the world. Esved hazretlerinin canı dudağında; el el ile, ayak ayak ile, elvedâ/elfirâk ediyor.
He feels that it is time to migrate to the other realm. Öbür âleme göçme faslını hissediyor gibi.
He is in such agony, such pain, as if he is suffering.
'What is it?' asks the noble Alqama, 'Are you anxious about your sins?' "Ne o" diyor Alkame hazretleri, "Günahlarından mı endişe duyuyorsun?"
With a pained smile: Acı bir tebessüm:
'What sins?' he says, 'I am afraid of dying as a disbeliever.' "Ne günahı?" diyor, "Kafir olarak ölmeden korkuyorum."
To have this level of fear of God, but also whilst never losing hope in Almighty God's capacity for mercy.
This is a wing. A wing that pushes you towards Him.
'Seek refuge in Him.' 'Of all His servants, only those who possess true knowledge stand in awe of God' (Al-Fatir 35:28). "Aman, O'na sığının." "Gerçek şu ki, kulları içinde, Allah karşısında, ancak âlimler saygıyla ürperir" (Fâtır, 35:28).
If you have the knowledge, you will possess a deep found respect of God. Eğer biliyorsanız, Allah'a karşı ciddî bir iç saygısına sahip olacaksınız.
You will recall the reflections and memories of In'amullah in relation to this issue: İn'amullah'ın bu mevzudaki mülahazasını ve hatırasını hatırlayacaksınız:
He read the verse, 'Of all His servants, only those who possess true knowledge stand in awe of God,' to Sir James Jeans and spoke about this matter with him.
'True scholars... "Gerçek âlimler.
They are the ones who truly fear God.' Allah'tan gerçek korkanlar, bunlardır."
Their knowledge has become a tool of their nature. İlmini, tabiatına mal etmiş.
In one way, their knowledge has become their knowledge of God. Bir yönüyle, ilmi, marifet haline getirmiş.
Knowledge of God becomes love for God. Marifeti, muhabbet haline getirmiş.
This affection becomes a state of Divine love. Muhabbeti, aşk-ı ruhanî haline getirmiş.
And that becomes a state of Divine pleasure. Onu, zevk-i ruhanî haline getirmiş.
And that becomes ardent love and longing. Onu, aşk u iştiyak haline getirmiş.
The real scholars are these people. Esasen gerçek ulemâ, işte bunlardır; gerçek âlimler bunlardır.
When this verse was read before Jeans, he asked, 'Did the noble Muhammad say this?' Bu ayeti, Jeans'in yanında söyleyince, "Bunu, Hazreti Muhammed mi diyor?" diye soruyor.
The condition of one who understands is different. Anlayan insanın hali başkadır.
He responded, 'Yes. God's Messenger says this through revelation.' "Evet" diyor, "Efendimiz (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) Kur'an'ın vahyi olarak bunu söylüyor."
Jeans says, 'By God if He is confirming this then I have no doubts that He is a Prophet'. Jeans, "Vallahi bunu o beyan ediyorsa, O'nun peygamber olduğunda şüphe yok" diyor.
'Of all His servants, only those who possess true knowledge stand in awe of God' (Al-Fatir 35:28). "Gerçek şu ki, kulları içinde, Allah karşısında, ancak âlimler saygıyla ürperir."
May God almighty bestow such wisdom upon us. Cenâb-ı Hak, öyle ilmi lütfeylesin.
To be crowned with such reverence. Onu, "haşyet" ile taçlandırmaya muvaffak eylesin.
Deep reverence and awe, which are separate things, fear of punishment, and feelings of wonder, in a way will become factors that push you towards God's mercy, grace, generosity and divine beneficence; you must know it as such.
Also, you should allow yourself to fear however much is possible, allow your feet to tremble out of fear, without losing vision that God will open his door for you.
'One day, the owner of the door that we rest our head on, will open that door.' "Bir gün, başımı koyduğum o eşiğin Sahibi, o kapıyı bana aralayacak ve açacaktır."
You could consider this through the context of the considerations of Imam Zayn al-Abidin. İmam Zeynülâbidîn'in mülahazaları çerçevesinde meseleye bakabilirsiniz:
He represents the sentiment of the scholars of earlier generations, for those that came before him. O, kendinden evvelkilerin, seleflerin, hâlesine doğru müteveccih olduğu kimselerin hissiyatına tercüman.
He made it a practice for himself to repeat the actions and thoughts of those that preceded him. Onlar nasıl düşünmüşler ve nasıl etmişlerse, onun gözü de onların üzerinde; aynı şeyleri vird-i zebân etmiş.
That is, he is voicing the sentiments of the respected Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali. Bû-Bekr u Ömer u Osman u Ali'nin hissiyatlarını vird-i zebân etmiş, onu dillendiriyor.
Besides the fear and the shaking caused by that fear, he turns to God in hope. O, korkunun, tir tir titremenin yanı başında, reca soluklarıyla da Hakk'a teveccüh ediyor:
'Never has God turned away needy souls that arrive at his door empty handed. "Benim gibi âciz, fakir, kapısına eli boş gelen insanları şimdiye kadar hiç boş geriye çevirmemiştir.
I too am a beggar that has come to his door empty handed, without assets, carrying the burdens of the world, bent by the weight of the world on my shoulders. Ben de işte öyle eli boş, dağarcığı boş, sermayesiz, sırtında dünyanın yükü, iki büklüm dünya yükü altında, gelmiş bir dilenciyim.
Those without any qualifications have found solace there, with the good opinion that, I too, could gain something, and I rest my head at the entrance of this gate. Utûfet-i şahâneden, ulûfe-i şahâneden oraya liyakati olmadığı halde gelen insanlar bile istifade ettikleri gibi, ben de o istifade mülahazasıyla o kapıya teveccüh ettim, o eşiğe başımı koydum.
I would call for, 'Divine Mercy' and rest my head there. Bazen 'Rahmet mülahazası.' dedim, başımı koydum.
'Divine Beneficence' and rest there. Bazen 'Re'fet' dedim, başımı koydum.
'Compassion my Lord' and rest there. Bazen 'Şefkat, Allah'ım' dedim, başımı koydum.
Sometimes, I would say, 'the depth of this compassion', and rest my head there. Bazen 'Rahmetin enginliği' dedim, başımı koydum.
Sometimes, I say 'Your promise', and rest there. Bazen 'Sen'in va'din' dedim, başımı koydum.
Sometimes I say 'this is my hope, my expectation' and rest there. Bazen 'Benim ümidim, beklentim' dedim, başımı koydum.
Sometimes I said 'helplessness' and did the same. Bazen 'Çaresizlik" dedim, başımı koydum.
Sometimes I thought 'there is no other door to go to'. All of these are different ways of touching the door knob.
'Sometimes in the Saba style... "Bir Sabâ nağmesiyle.
Sometimes in Ushshaq style... Bir Uşşâk nağmesiyle.
Sometimes in Rast style... Bir Rast nağmesiyle.
Maybe in Sagah style... Bir Segah nağmesiyle.
Or Hijaz style... Bir Hicaz nağmesiyle.
I expressed my prayers and deliberations in front of the door', in many styles. Farklı farklı mülahazalarla, hissiyatımı o kapının önünde dillendirdim; farklı farklı makamlarla dillendirdim" bu.
That was insufficient; so I need to try different methods.
Indeed this is a form of hope for God's grace and mercy. İşte bu da bir recâ hissi.
When one elevates on their wings of hope and wing of fear, they will fly towards Him.
'I seek refuge in God from the evil of the cursed and expelled Satan'. "Allah'a sığınırım lanetlenmiş ve kovulmuş şeytanın şerrinden.
And say: "My Lord! I seek refuge in You from the promptings and provocations of the satans (of the jinn and humankind)" (Al-Mu'minun, 23:97). 'Rabbim, (bilhassa vazifemi yerine getirirken, ins ve cin) şeytanlarının kışkırtmalarından (ve birtakım duygularımı harekete geçirmelerinden) Sana sığınırım.' (Mü'minûn, 23:97).
From the incitements of all those devils that come from every walk of life, from politicians, government servants, soldiers, police and lawyers. They will say 'So leave them alone with what they have been fabricating' (Al-An'am, 6:112), and seek refuge in God. "Sana sığınırım insî ve cinnî şeytanların şerrinden. politikacı, sosyal hizmet memuru, asker, polis, istihbaratçı, hukukçu ve diğerleri gibi hayatın her biriminden olan şeytanların şerlerinden ki, 'Onlardan kimi kimine, aldatmak için birtakım yaldızlı sözler fısıldayıp telkin ederler'" (En'âm, 6:112) deyip Allah'a sığınacak.
My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of Satan, "İnsî ve cinnî şeytanların şerrinden Sana sığınıyorum.
It is unclear how they will attack you, amongst all these enemies, who better to seek refuge than God?
And that is a wing of this matter, which is flapping towards God. Bir kanadı o, meselenin; kanatlandırıyor, sizi Allah'a doğru kanatlandırıyor.
But you know that you cannot fly with one wing. Ama tek kanat ile uçamayacağınızı biliyorsunuz.
For this reason God has given birds two wings.
This is the same with respect to your spiritual form and anatomy. Size verdiği manevî yapınız itibarıyla, manevî anatominiz itibarıyla da öyle.
With respect to you heart, spiritual intellect, your consciousness and sense God has given you a wing of fear and a wing of hope.
When these two are used accordingly, one will rise like a turtle dove to success, with God's permission and grace.
May God allow us to maintain this balance successfully. Cenâb-ı Hak, o dengeyi korumaya muvaffak eylesin.
Not to fall into excessiveness and apathy in this matter. O mevzuda ifrat ve tefritlere düşmemek.
Not just live in fear or fall into despair. Sadece korkuyla, ye'se yenilip, ümidi öldürmemek.
Although, one should not just focus on being hopeful, and completely ignore the feeling of fear.
With this condition, one should keep both feelings alive, strong and upright like a youth.
Indeed, one should keep these two aspects strong like wings that will allow them to draw closer to God. Evet, bunları sağlam iki kanat gibi dinç tutarak her ikisini de O'na doğru kanatlanmaya vesile kılmak lazım.
First and foremost God Almighty greeted the Prophet with the words; 'Peace be upon you O Prophet!' Başta, Allah (celle celaluhu), Rasûl-i Ekrem (aleyhissalâtü vesselam) Efendimiz'e selam etmiş; "Esselâmu aleyke eyyühen-Nebi" demiş.
God says 'O the one who will inform people, awaken them and bring meaning and truth to their consciences, the Prophet who will ignite the feeling of love and yearning for Me, peace be upon you'. "Ey insanlara mesaj götürecek, onları uyaracak, varlığın mana ve mahiyetini vicdanlarına duyuracak, Bana karşı içlerinde aşk u iştiyak hissini uyaracak Nebî" diyor; "Esselâmu aleyke" diyor.
Consequently, how can we not utter the words God has said to him. Dolayısıyla, ne haddimize Allah'ın dediği şeyi demeyeceğiz.
And so we shall also say, 'Peace be upon you' to him. "Selam" diyeceğiz O'na (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem).
God has given him a rank, He knows the Prophet will act accordingly and so has sent him with the necessary qualities.
So much so, that even in the 40 years prior to becoming a Prophet, his dreams and visions were never even temporarily clouded with impure thoughts.
'Even temporarily, can you entertain carnal desires for a single moment?' "Muvakkaten, beni bir saniyeliğine misafir eder misin ey cismânî arzu, bedenî arzu, hevâî arzu?"
This didn't even happen before he became a Prophet. Peygamberliğinden evvel olmamış.
He lived a pure life. Öyle nezih yaşamış.
He live such an immaculate life, when cruelty was at its peak, the unbelievers and corrupted, polytheists and disbelievers would call him 'Muhammad the trustworthy', he was indeed a 'marker of confidence and trust'.
For instance they would ask, 'I am going to travel someplace or I am going to war; I need to entrust my wife, my daughter to somebody, who would be the best person?' Yani, "Ben bir yere gidiyorum, mesela savaşa gidiyorum; hanımımı, kızımı emanet etmek istiyorum; kime emanet etsem ki, yüzüne bile bakmasa?
They would say, 'The best person would be Muhammad'. Ee en güzeli Hazreti Muhammed'e" falan.
'Whom shall I entrust my wealth and possessions to? "Malımı, mülkümü kime emanet etsem ben?
To whom should I leave my door open? Giderken, kapımı kime açık bıraksam?
Who should I trust? Şu meselede kime güvensem, dayansam?
Who could I turn my back to and know that I will not be stabbed?
The Prophet is the first person that comes to mind when one thinks of an individual that is remembered for their positive qualities and far away from negative ones.
As an aside, 'How fortunate is the community of Muhammad; that they rely on an unshakable column, the column of God,' says Imam Busiri in his Qasida al Burdah. Antrparantez; "Ne mutlu ümmet-i Muhammed'e ki, öyle, devrilmez/sarsılmaz bir Sütun'a, Allah ile irtibatlı bir Sütun'a dayanmışlardır" diyor, "Kaside-i Bür'e"sinde (veya "Bürde"sinde) İmam Bûsîrî hazretleri.
This is the column you rely on, with God's permission.
So, God salutes him. Şimdi Allah, O'na "Es-selâm" diyor.
God salutes him as He knows he will perform his duty duly. Allah (celle celâluhu), O'nun (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) vazifesini/misyonunu hakkı ile edâ edeceğinden "Es-selâm" diyor.
He sends him back with the duty of Prayer during the Ascension, after saying, 'Peace and the mercy of God and His blessings be upon you O Prophet!'
And so, the community of Muhammad also repeats this holy salutation. Dolayısıyla, ümmet-i Muhammed'e ve Ümmet-i Muhammed'in "Selam" demesine gelince, biz de o ilahî selamı tekrar ediyoruz.
While we utter these words, we need to take the perspective of Bediüzzaman into consideration. Ederken de Hazret'in bu mevzuda meseleye yaklaşımı çerçevesinde meseleye yaklaşmak lazım.
How? Nasıl?
When we say 'Peace and the mercy of God and His blessings be upon you O Prophet', we need to consider all the meanings Bediüzzaman highlights.
As I have mentioned earlier, expressing this phrase with feelings 'as if we are encountering him and he is hearing our words.' Kıtmîr, bazı zamanlarda ifade ettiğinde, "Muvacehe karşısında, doğrudan doğruya, o Ruh-u Seyyidi'l-Enâm bizi duyuyor gibi."
I am confident that He is hearing us, because in an authentic tradition, He says: 'Whenever a single invocation is sent to me, an angel informs Me. Zaten duyuyordur; çünkü sahih hadiste buyuruyor ki; "Bana salât u selam okuduğunuzda, iletilir Bana, bir melek getirir.
And I respond to the salutation.' Ben de mukabelede bulunurum" diyor.
What a beautiful bounty. Ne güzel şey, bu.
Who knows, perhaps scholars like Abdulqadr al-Jilani and Muhammad Bahauddin Shah an-Naqshband's ears burned whenever they said 'Peace and the mercy of God and His blessings be upon you O Prophet' and heard the voice of the Prophet saying 'Peace and the mercy of God be upon you,' but never mentioned it out of humility.
Saying 'Peace be upon you,' with these considerations and with all your heart and devotion.
What does this mean? Bu, ne ifade ediyor?
Bediüzzaman says that salutation has the meaning of renewing one's pledge of allegiance, acceptance of his appointment, obedience to the laws he brought, submission to his commands, immunity from any harm on our part.
'This is a renewal of our allegiance.' "Bu, bir tecdîd-i bey'attır." "Biat" diyoruz, "bey'at".
In a way, renewing our oath to him. Bir yönüyle O'na verdiğimiz sözü yenileme:
We said the oath: 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God'. "Muhammedun Rasûlullah" dedik.
Similar to 'Renew your faith with the words, "There is no deity but God"'. "İmanınızı 'Lâ ilâhe illâllah' ile yenileyiniz" gibi.
By saying 'Peace be upon you', we are renewing our oaths and pledges to him: 'You are the Messenger of God'. Bir kere daha -böyle- "Es-selâmu aleyke" demek suretiyle bey'atlerimizi yenilemiş oluyoruz; "Sen, Allah'ın Rasûlü'sün.
And as though we are holding your blessed hands, bending in humility before you, we are extending (offering) our necks to you.
The phrase extending our necks reminds me of Mus'ab ibn Umayr. "Boynu uzatma." sözü, Hazreti Mus'ab İbn Umeyr'i hatırlattı.
He was mentioned during sermon today as well. Bugün hutbede de söylendi.
A person I always remember with admiration. Benim hayranlık ile her zaman üzerinde durduğum zat, Mus'ab İbn Umeyr.
When he walks past, curtains are parted so that people can see this handsome young man. Gezdiği zaman, jalûziler sıyrılıyor, "Bir güzel insan, dünya güzeli insan görelim" diye.
But before tasting any worldly pleasure, similar to Bediüzzaman who said: Ama dünya adına hiçbir şey tatmadan, "Dünya zevki namına bir şey bilmiyorum.
'I did not experience any worldly pleasure', Dünya zevki namına bir şey görmedim" dediği gibi Hazreti Pîr-i Mugân'ın.
All of his beauty accompanies him to Uhud. O, güzelliklerini, Uhud'a kadar taşıyor.
He becomes a human shield in front of the Prophet at Uhud. He extends one arm, then the other, then his leg and finally his neck at the swords coming for the Prophet.
He says if someone is to fall first, make it my body. "Evvelâ, yaralanması, kesilmesi, koparılması gerekli olan birisi var ise, o da işte bu" filan diyor.
Many Companions are in awe of his behaviour. Nice sahabî, onun bu haline imreniyor:
'Among the believers are men (of highest valour) who have been true to their covenant with God: "Mü'minlerden öyle yiğitler vardır ki Allah'a verdikleri sözü yerine getirip sadâkatlerini ispat ettiler.
Among them are those who have fulfilled their vow (by remaining steadfast until death), and those who are awaiting (its fulfilment). Onlardan kimi adağını ödedi, canını verdi; kimi de şehitliği (sıranın kendisine gelmesini) gözlemektedir.
They have never altered in any way' (Al-Ahzab, 33:23). Onlar verdikleri sözü asla değiştirmediler" (Ahzâb, 33:23).
Many fulfilled their promise, like Musab ibn Umayr, Ibn Jahsh, and the respected Hamza.
Many of them were thinking 'when will my turn be?
So I can reach the level of martyrdom. Tâ şehit olmak suretiyle kanatlanalım.
By protecting the Messenger of God I will elevate and fly away'. Allah Rasûlü'nün huzurunda hırz-ı cân etmek suretiyle, kanatlanalım" diyorlar.
Now imagining holding his blessed hand and renewing the oath: Şimdi onun mübarek elini tutuyor gibi, bey'ati yenileme:
'O Messenger! "Yâ Rasûlallah.
It is as if you are just telling us about your Prophethood for the first time, and we are hearing it for the first time.
In the past you told some people.' O dönemde birilerine duyurmuşsun.
Not like that; it is as if you are announcing it to us now.
That Qur'an that you have presented to the world as a trust, when it was coming down to you, it was as if it was pouring heavily down on us as well.
Once again we are renewing our oath. Yeniden bey'atimizi yeniliyoruz.
We are renewing our oath to you just as they did at Aqaba.' Tıpkı Akabe'de, Senin yed-i mübârekeni sıkıp da Sana bey'at edenler gibi bey'atimizi yeniliyoruz."
Yes, the first: Evet, birincisi:
'Renewal of one's pledge'... "Tecdîd-i biat".
Secondly; Sending 'salutations' to the Prophet, means acceptance of his official duty. İkinci olarak; Efendimiz'e (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) "Selam" gönderme, O'nun memuriyetini kabul etme demektir.
His official duty to be part of something. Bir şey ile memur.
To announce the meaning and essence of existence to people. Varlığın mana ve mahiyetini insanlığa duyurma.
To give news of our position in this world. Dünyadaki konumumuzu haber verme.
Don't dwell on things about this world. Dünyanın mahiyeti mevzuunda denecek şeyleri deme.
This place is an arable field. Bir mezraadır burası.
The world, with regards to its own essence, is a 'carcass', and those people that run after it are 'dogs'. Dünya, kendi mahiyeti itibarıyla bir "cîfê"dir, arkasından koşturup duran varlıklar da "kelb"lerdir.
However, at the same time, it is the corridor to the Hereafter; it is the loci of manifestations of the Divine Names, it is the place where the Hereafter is to be won, a sort of arable field. Fakat o aynı zamanda, ahiretin koridorudur; Esmâ-i İlahiye'nin mecâlîsidir, mezâhiridir; âhiretin kazanılacağı bir yerdir, bir mezraadır.
The seeds are sown here; the grains are harvested on the other side. Burada tohumlar saçılır, öbür tarafta insan, başakları ile karşılaşır.
The saplings are planted here, and on the other side a person can graciously walk about in the shade of the tree that sapling grew into. Burada fideler dikilir, öbür tarafta o selvilerin gölgesinde insan, reftâre yürümeye durur.
To learn all of this; read the books of existence, matter and events; read them with the Qur'an.
Without leaving anything unclear, learning the truth about existence. Hiç müphem bir şey bırakmadan, esasen varlığın yüzünden nikabı sıyırarak.
Just as the poet Muhyi mentioned earlier: Biraz evvel şairimizin, Muhyî'nin dediği gibi:
'Show us your face, which is as bright as the moon, Oh Mustafa, "Arz et cemâlin, göreyim, ey mâh-i tâbân Mustafa
Remove the veil from your face, which is as bright as the sun, Oh Mustafa'. Ref' et nikâb-ı rûyini, şems-i dırahşan Mustafa."
The Prophet Muhammad who is considered to be our sun and our moon explains the realities of existence to us by removing ambiguities.
Thus, a second matter is to accept this mission of His, to take on such a duty from Him.
As you were sent down as a Prophet only once, we say 'For this reason may peace be upon you'; we renew our promise and say: "Sana bir kere de bundan dolayı selam olsun" bir kere işte Peygamber olarak gönderildin; bey'atimizi yeniliyoruz Sana:
'Peace and blessings be upon you O Messenger!' "Esselâmu aleyke eyyühen-Nebiyyu."
For God's sake this isn't sufficient. Yahu yetmedi bu.
The second is to accept their service; if You did not come with that duty and message, we were going to be living a dark and meaningless life.
We would not know of the nature of your existence. Ne varlığı, ne varlığın mahiyetini bilemeyecektik.
We would not know the purpose of this world. Dünyanın ne işe yaradığını bilemeyecektik.
A round planet, senselessly rotating around the sun; in one way we would say 'there is no appeal or charm' just like those materialists and naturalists. We would always tie the meaning of this world to and try to make sense of the theories of naturalism and positivism Bir yuvarlak, güneşin etrafında şuursuzca dönüp duruyor; bir yönüyle Materyalistlerin, Natüralistlerin dedikleri gibi, "Yok, bir cazibe mazibe falan" diyecek, meseleyi hep Natüralizme bağlayacak, Pozitivizme bağlayacak, izah etmeye çalışacaktık.
However because of you, we have learnt and understood that the order of the universe functions in harmony with His Divine Power and Will.
What they say, is unquestionably nothing more than the surface of the issue; it is not what happens behind the scenes of any matter. Onların dedikleri şeyler, meselenin sadece zahir yüzünü izahtan ibaret; meselenin arka planına giden şeyler değil bunlar.
Yes, acceptance of your service. Evet, memuriyetini kabul.
Thirdly; it also means to salute him and comply with his laws with acknowledgment and submission. Üçüncü olarak; O'na her "selam" verme, O'nun getirdiği kanunlara itaat etme ikrarı da demektir.
To submit to the discipline he brought.
To say, 'Peace be upon you' one more time because of this.
Because with these, through these means, in a way, you can live on the Straight Path.
Not falling to any extremes. İfratlara, tefritlere düşmeyeceksiniz.
Just like the previous observations, you need to use your two wings of 'fear and hope for God's grace and mercy' in this world. Biraz evvelki mülahazalarla, havf u recâyı iki kanat gibi kullanacaksınız dünyada.
Consequently making use of the message our Prophet brought and expressed is essentially reaching him and through his means achieving what you must. Dolayısıyla Efendimiz'in getirdiği şeyleri değerlendirmek suretiyle esasen O'na ulaşma ve O'nun sayesinde ulaşacağınız şeye ulaşma.
In this world, just how you've achieved these things through his guidance, in the hereafter through his guidance and intercession you will meet under the 'banner of praise'.
God expresses this and you also say it at the end of the call to Prayer: Bunları Kendisi ifade buyuruyor ve siz Ezan sonunda da diyorsunuz:
'O the Lord of this absolute invitation and the One we will pray to. "Ey bu kâmil davetin ve kılınacak namazın Rabbi olan Allah'ım.
Through the intercession of our noble Prophet, allow us to reach Paradise and beyond, and allow us to reach the sacred station You have bestowed on him. Efendimiz Hazreti Muhammed'e (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) "vesîle"yi (en büyük kurbet makamını), Cennet'e ve ötesine ulaşmayı lütfet ve O'nu, kendisine vaadettiğin Makam-ı Mahmud'a ulaştır.
There is no doubt, You never turn back from Your promise' is what You say. Şüphe yok ki, Sen asla sözünden dönmezsin" diyorsunuz.
The Owner of the Praised Position is him; you are the ones who will gather under the banner of praise. Makam-ı Mahmud'un Sahibi, O; Livâu'l-hamd'i altında toplanacak olan, sizlersiniz.
Just as he is the one who gathered you in circles around belief in Almighty God, with God's leave, he will also gather you together on the Day of Judgment under the banner of praise, through his intercession. Dünyada sizi Cenâb-ı Hakk'a imanın etrafında halkalar haline -Allah'ın izni ile- getirdiği gibi, öbür tarafta da şefaatine mazhariyetin dışa vurması şeklinde "Livâu'l-hamd'i altında sizleri yine bir araya getirecek, O'dur.
He says, 'My intercession will also include those from my community who engaged in cardinal sins', so that we do not fall in to a state of hopelessness. Efendim, "Benim şefaatim, ümmet-i Muhammed'den günah-ı kebâir işleyenlere" buyuruyor, ye'se düşmemeniz için.
You have engaged in cardinal sins, fear is burning your insides; but he is the one who plants hope in front of your eyes like a monument: Günah-ı kebâir işlemişsiniz; korku, içinizi yakıyor; fakat O, hemen recâyı gözünüzün önüne bir âbide gibi dikiyor:
He says 'Look, just as the sun shines, the extent of Almighty God's mercy can be seen'. "Bakın, güneş gibi pırıl pırıl, Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın rahmetinin vüs'ati görülüyor" diyor.
Now it is not possible to balance life in any other way. Şimdi, hayatı başka türlü dengelemek mümkün değil.
When he puts a balanced life like this in front of you, you too end up living such a balanced life.
When you live such a balanced life, you seek the Straight Path forty, fifty maybe even sixty times a day from God Almighty. Dengeli yaşadığınızdan, bu sırât-ı müstakîmi günde kırk defa, elli defa, bazen altmış defa Cenâb-ı Hak'tan talep ediyorsunuz.
'Dear God! "Allah'ım.
Make us of those guided into balance. Sen, bizi dengeye hidayet buyur.
You are supplicating; 'Protect us from straying into extremes and allow us to be of those who are steadfast; guide us to the path of steadfastness.' İfrat ve tefrit yolunun dışında, ifrata ve tefrite düşmeden, istikamet yolunda olanlardan eyle; hidayet eyle, istikamet yoluna hidayet eyle" diyorsunuz.
Also; each salutation is a submission to the message and principles he brought. Dördüncü olarak; her "selam" O'nun evâmirine (getirdiği emir, mesaj ve ilkelere) teslim manası taşıyor.
Those who submit to him will be saved, with God's leave.
Consequently if submission to him is a means of salvation, then the duty that befalls you is to give him an abundance of salutations: Dolayısıyla şimdi O'na teslim olmak vesile-i necat ise şayet, size düşen şey de esasen bol bol O'na selam etmektir:
'May Peace and blessings be upon you Oh Messenger of God!' "Esselamu aleyke ya Rasulullah."
We also say; 'As you have given us the path to submit to you, a door that you have left ajar for us, once again may peace and blessings be upon you.'
And, each salutation that we give is a promise of security from our bad actions.
For it is a means of liberation from any inappropriate words, actions or manners towards him.
It's like saying, 'We do not and did not use you for our worldly concerns'. Hâşâ ve kellâ, "Seni, dünya hesabına kullanmadığımızdan, kullandırmadığından dolayı.
We were not disrespectful towards you. Sana karşı saygısız davranmadığımızdan dolayı, davrandırılmadığından dolayı.
Peace be upon you for all of the discipline you brought to us.' Getirdiğin disiplinler ile Sana karşı hep saygılı olduğumuzdan dolayı yine Sana selam olsun" demek gibi.
To put it briefly, this seems to be all that comes to my mind regarding this matter.
To gain a deeper understanding of it, you should apply your own considerations.
On the other hand, when we send peace and salutations to the Prophet we say, 'Thousands and thousands of salutations', as a symbol of multiplicity; it comes to mean many. Diğer taraftan, Peygamberimize salât ü selam getirilirken sıkça tekrar edilen "Elfu elfi salâtin" ifadesi, kesretten kinayedir; yani, çok demektir.
A symbol of multiplicity. "Binlerce" dediğimiz zaman bile biz de zaten kesretten kinaye diyoruz.
The expression 'as many as the particles in the universe' comes to mean even more than this.
As many as the number of particles of the universe, droplets of water in the ocean. Zerrât-ı kâinat adedince. denizlerin damlaları adedince.
As many as the particles in the atmosphere. Atmosferdeki zerreler adedince.
The number of atoms in all of creation. Bütün varlık içindeki atomlar adedince.
The number of electrons. Elektronlar adedince.
Neutrons. Nötronlar adedince.
Protons. Protonlar adedince.
Ether Eter (esir) adedince.
All of these are different ways of expressing multitudes, many and many. Bunları söylediğiniz zaman, bunların hepsi bir yönüyle çokluk ifade etmek içindir.
This also applies to thousands upon thousands.
But beyond all of these are expressions like 'As much as God's knowledge and wisdom.' These come to mean infinite amounts.
Everything combined remains like a single droplet in the ocean in comparison to God's infinite knowledge.
Sending peace and salutations upon the Messenger of God with such ambition: Allah Rasûlü'ne karşı, bu kadar iştiyakla ve doyma bilmeme hissiyle salât u selam okuma:
'Thousands and thousands of peace and salutations upon the Noble Messenger.' "Elfu elfi salâtin ve elfu elfi selamin aleyke ya Rasulullah."
Most of the people of God used these expressions when sending peace and salutations upon the Prophet. Ehlullahtan pek çoğu, salât u selam okurken hep bu tabirleri kullanmışlar.
Similar expressions can be found in Jazuli's Dala'il al-Khayrat. Cezulî hazretlerinin "Delâilü'l-Hayrât"ında da benzer ifadeler vardır.
They identified different expressions for each day of the week and read these for many years. Onu haftanın yedi gününe taksim ederek, öteden beri âdet olarak hep okumuşlardır.
Most of these salutations can be found in Al-Qulubu'd-Daria.
There are some to be read on weekdays, others to be read on specific days like Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
However you always find that in a majority of these they say, 'Thousands and thousands of peace and salutations upon the Noble Messenger.'
And in terms of higher amounts, 'like the numbers of particles in the universe. Ve çoklarında "Zerrât-ı kâinat adedince.
The number of stars... Yıldızlar adedince.
The number of waves on the sea... Denizdeki dalgalar adedince.
The number of birds... Kuşlar adedince.
The number of angels... Melekler adedince.
The number of glorifications of God by the angels'... The friends of God who say these things do not find any of the things they say enough and they present a new diligence and exertion on this matter.
For example if I said something like this; 'Like the amount of God's knowledge and information' and stopped there. "Ben şöyle kestirmeden bir şey dedim; mesela, "Allah'ın ilmi adedince ve Allah'ın malumâtı adedince" dedim, bitirdim.
That is Infinite. Nâmütenâhî.
No, I want to keep repeating the same thing over and over again. Hayır, ben böyle her zaman aynı şeyi tekrar etmek istiyorum.
That is why I don't know if I have paid my indebtedness towards you when we say things like, 'Like this or that amount'.
Because I am so indebted to you. Çünkü Sana karşı o kadar borçluyum ki.
'All humanity is indebted to that innocent, "Medyûndur o Masum'a bütün bir beşeriyet
O Lord, resurrect us with this declaration,' says Mehmet Akif.
'All humanity is indebted to that innocent, "Medyûndur o Masum'a bütün bir beşeriyet
O Lord, resurrect us with this declaration!'
'O my Lord! Yâ Rab.
Resurrect us with this declaration!' Mahşerde bizi bu ikrâr ile haşret.
