1st Turkish School Inaugurated in Egypt

The close relationship between Turkey and Egypt is evident in the field of education too. The first branch of the International Salahaddin Turkish schools was opened on Tuesday, May 19, in Cairo with a broad participation of distinguished guests.

Famous faces of Cairo as well as Turks living in Egypt joined the opening ceremony. Turkey's Ambassador to Cairo, Şafak Göktürk, said that they, as the Turkish state, civil organizations, people and all entrepreneurs, are doing their best to develop mutual relationships.

Ahmet Ömer Haşim, Special Advisor of Egyptian President Hüsnü Mubarak, Hakan Şükür, the legendary Turkish striker, together with intellectuals, deputies and artists attended the opening ceremony.

The US daily LA Times also covered the news, headlining as "Egypt: The Turks are coming!"

The daily said that In a festive atmosphere, Turkish music echoed across Cairo this week, announcing the opening of Salahaddin International School, the first Turkish school in Egypt.

The daily further mentioned that the school, which teaches a multi-disciplinary curriculum from kindergarten to high school, is affiliated with the international movement of Turkish volunteers, promoting values of coexistence and tolerance. Teachers include Turks and Egyptians, as well as native English speakers.
