Inter-Religious Solidarity Antidote Against Terror
Intellectuals and religious representatives from 38 countries attended the conference that ended yesterday. Papers presented noted collaboration against terror is a requirement among religions since terror is one of the most important issues waiting for an immediate solution. Professor Leonid Sukian recommended a discussion on legal systems by inviting the legalists of the three big religions. Ukrainian Counter-Terrorsim Center President Alexander Dichek asked NGOs to be more active in preventing terror. Turkish Journalists and Writers Foundation President Harun Tokak disclosed the objective of the conference as to provide contributions to the solution of security issue. The same foundation that busied the agenda with its meetings called "Abant Forums" held international meetings in Brussels and Washington.
This time, another meeting serving for the same purpose to bring religious figures together to discuss universal issues gathered at a historic hall near to the Kremlin. Sukian brought to the fore that Turkey realizes progress in rights and freedoms and catches up with the European standards while some of the Islamic countries recognize some of the women rights newly. Outside of the Islamic world, other religions are having hard time to understand each other he noted. Dichek on the other side presented a paper on the role of civil society organizations in preventing international terror. "We don't distinguish civilization as Islamic or Christian. There is only one civilization. That is civilization of humanity," he concluded.
Ali Bulac, a Zaman writer, presented a paper on the importance of religious symbols in a session chaired by famous Kyrgyz author Cengiz Aytmatov. Azerbaijan Ataturk Center President Professor Nizami Ceferov on the other side expressed hope for the future through inter-religion dialogue. (Abdulhamit Bilici, Mirza Cetinkaya)
