Turkish, Now a Language of the World
Foreign national students studying at Turkish schools abroad competed in the 3rd Annual International Turkish Contest for Foreigners. Students who won the competition were awarded in a ceremony over the weekend. The 120 students, who beat their rivals from among the 10,000 students who entered the competition, competed in the finals. Filling the ASKI Sports Arena in Ankara to capacity, the audience witnessed the student from around the world and their love of the Turkish language. Competitors sang inTurkish and read Turkish poetry to an appreciative and astounded audience. During the ceremony, those who contributed to the voluntary army of education were remembered with the outmost appreciation while it was emphasized that "Turkish is from now on a language of the World." Minister of Transportation Binali Yildirim said Turkish schools in every corner of the globe are a source of pride for all Turks.
Dilset-Zambak Publications which prepare the "Turkish-education set" in 92 countries organized the contest. Preparations for the competition took about a year. Every country selected its own winner who was then sent to Turkey to participate in the competition and those international students stayed at the Kizilcahamam Asya Thermal Holiday Village near Ankara. The students were tested on "reading and comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, speech and writing. The results were announced on Saturday evening during the ceremony.
Kazakh, Maria Rahimova shared the gold medal with Tatar, Aygul Aminova in the Advanced Turkish category. Turkmen, Atamurat Hudayberdiyev, Kyrgyz, Kanikey Isakova and Kazakh, Janar Adresilova won gold medals in the Intermediate Turkish category. Those competing in the Elementary Turkish section, Kosovan, Filiz Gjini and Kyrgyz, Shirin Akmatbekova grabbed the gold. In the competition, 24 students were awarded a silver medal and 32 received the bronze medal. (By Ibrahim Asalioglu)
