Moldova Boasts Success of Turkish Schools
Students of Moldovan-Turkish high schools, well-known with their standards of education and for receiving awards, have again obtained much success in the international academic olympiads they took part in this year.
Five students from the Moldovan-Turkish high schools won one gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the International Mathematics olympiads held in Mexico with the participation of 92 countries.
This success, widely reported in Moldovan media, is not the first medals these schools have won this year. Students from Turkish high schools won a silver medal and an honourable mention in the International Physics olympiads held in Spain. They also took third place in the International Ecology olympiads held in Turkey.
Students of Moldovan-Turkish high schools ranked second in two categories and third in one category in the International Turkish olympiads held in Turkey.
Moldovan-Turkish high schools opened in 1993 and are the first private schools in the country. Turkish schools give an education in English and Romanian or English and Russian depending on the choice of the students. Graduates of these schools can continue their education in respected universities across the world. Moldovan-Turkish high schools educate students from 20 different nations who are accepted after an examination. Ten of the thirteen medals Moldova received last year were obtained by students from Turkish high schools. (By Mehmet Zorkaya, Cihan News Agency, Kishnev)
