Students Compete in Turkish Olympics

Students from all over the country competed neck and neck at the 7th Turkish Language Olympics.

The Olympics attracted hundreds students from Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana who displayed their skills in singing, poetry, folklore, talent and sketch categories.

The competitors were coming from schools who teach Turkish as a second language in the Mid-West region. Along with competing students and their families, a great number of Turkish people living in the area attended the olympics to watch the competition.

Folk dancers also took center stage displaying different examples from Turkish folk dances and received uproarious applause from the audience.

The jury and judges had a difficult time choosing the winners since all the competitors displayed great performances in their categories and got a great deal of appreciation from the audience.

Some of the participants did bring home the gold. Derik Salter was awarded with 1st place in singing category while Andrew Glass got 1st place in poetry.

The winners of this Olympic challenge will comptete in Turkiye with other students from all over the world.
