Gülen Gives Insight on Turkiye Elections
Turkish scholar Fethullah Gülen gave an interview to the Internet site "herkul.org" on local elections in Turkiye, which will be held in less than a week. Gülen gave explanations on several issues such as the importance of voting, wording and manners at the electoral rallies and his stance in politics.
Gülen says that a believer is obligated to vote in a particular direction that they believe in order to let their roots of meaning and spirit be reflected.
This week Turkish intellectuals answered questions regarding the elections on Herkul. Gülen says voting was a sacred duty and he drew attention to the importance and the sensitivity on the subject.
"One cannot stay completely indifferent to the issues that would pertain to ones objective and fate. Moreover, carrying out the requirements of that issue is in a way the right of God."
"If given the chance and means I would have bought the flight tickets of the Turkish expatriots to have them vote in Turkiye. I have never referred to any political parties. Besides, I believe those who have not voted for the people whom they see they will be useful for their fate would be responsible in the presence of God."
Gülen, saying democracy is deeply damaged by those who call people not to vote warned that the saying "Sovereignty belongs to the nation with no condition" should not be misinterpreted.
He also spoke about the wording and manner trouble at the electoral rallies said those who have responsibilities before the nation should be careful about manners.
Gülen gave explanations on the issue regarding his distance between himself and political parties.
"We have never jumped into politics; never discriminated between the political parties. We have always been at the same distance with the leaders of all political movements. We have shared our thoughts which we have believed to be useful with them. We are standing in the same place today. We vote for those who consider our sincere and spiritual lives and values and who have a message for our eternal wills regardless with what political parties they are a member of. Our only wish is a Turkiye which is independent and an arbiter in the arena of global politics."
