Turkish School Excels at Chicago Science Fair
The Science Academy of Chicago (SAC), opened by Turkish entrepreneurs, has received 15 gold and three silver medals in the Chicago Science Fair, at which a total of 52 private schools took part, a result that means some SAC students will go on to compete in a prestigious state-wide science competition.
The Chicago Science Fair was held at the world-famous Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Jury members from Chicago's eminent universities gave 10 gold and three silver medals to 15 students from SAC whose projects were among 374 submitted. Four SAC students will represent Chicago and join the state-wide competitions, the next leg of which will be held at Illinois Urbana Champaign University. Several companies sent representatives to this year's Science Olympiad and gave a cash prize to projects they found interesting. SAC students also received several of these prizes. Students were apparently very excited and happy after the competition. "We love our school very much. We are trying hard not to disappoint our teachers working day and night for us," they said happily. School Principal Dr. Osman Arslan explained that their goal had been for all their students to win something in the competition and that they had achieved it.
"Four of our students will join state-wide competitions. Our student Tuğbanur Çiftçi's project got the first place in the state-wide competition last year. We want to experience the same happiness again," he explained, adding: "We believe in our students and teachers. Though it has been only seven years, SAC has made itself accepted in Chicago. I thank all who contributed to the success of the school."
